  1. Though I have always disagreed with your "Mauer must move now" stance, I do think you bring up some good points. Also it should be pointed out that Mauer has a career 134 OPS+, that kind of offensive production would certainly play at 3rd base and he would instantly be one of the top 5 offensive 3rd baseman in the league. (Along with Longoria, Hanley and Miggy-if he sticks) And while it may not be worth exactly "$23 M a year" it is important to note that Beltre (110 OPS+) makes 18 mil a year currently.
  2. You must have missed the part where I said, it wasn't great but his numbers were hurt by bad luck. From 2010/2011 his BB/K ratio stayed the same, ISO stayed the same, his GB/FB and LD rates all stayed basically the same as well. His BABIP fell 70+ points! That indicates he was a product of bad luck. I don't think he is the 2010 .799 OPS type guy, but there is no reason why he can't hit for a .700-.720 line moving forward. According to advanced metrics, professional scouts and numerous other eye balls he rates right around "average" not "sucks" Sorry if I will take those words, stats over your "eyes" and errors. Like....who exactly? I wouldn't either, but all signs point to him hitting much better.
  3. Better teach him to throw with his right hand first
  4. Between the minors and majors you are looking at about 20-25 players a year. At basically 4 in the past 3 years or so it's not a huge anomaly. Pitchers just get hurt, the human arm was never meant to throw over hand in such a motion. Liriano was traded to the Twins because he was always an injury risk, Gibson had previous arm problems (which is why he dropped from top 5 pick down to the 20's) and I don't see how the Twins could have possibly done anything wrong in regards to Nathan. At the end of the day I think it's just bad luck.
  5. They kept Plouffe over Hughes because Plouffe has a significant amount of more upside, and Plouffe has shown more offensive and defensive value in his short time in the majors then Hughes. The Twins had hughes for 9 years in the system, and have seen over 2800 PA and 650 games from him. They basically realized he was never going to be an everyday player, and due to his lack of having any + skill, didn't make much sense as a bench guy either.
  6. You do understand that all of that is in a very small 57 PA sample size correct? Valencia had a .799 OPS in 2010, and while his numbers in 2011 weren't great by any means his numbers were hurt quite a bit by bad luck (BABIP) Also, errors are an awful way to determine someones defense. According to the advanced metrics he is basically average defensively at 3rd base. He's never going to be an all-star or some stud player at 3rd base, but if he can give you a .700-.730 OPS 10-15 HR while playing average defense while being cheap/affordable there is no reason to abandon him so quickly in hopes of over paying some older free agent for the same type of production. Valencia deserves time, if by the end of June he is still hitting .218/.228/.291 then by all means find someone else.
  7. I wouldn't be shocked if he could pick up the position within a weekend of taking ground balls prior to some games. However, if you are going to do so he needs to be playing 3rd base close to every day, and frankly at this point he still has a lot more value as a catcher. I still think Valencia has a decent chance to stick around as a mediocre/average 3rd baseman until Sano is ready (2-3 years). I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet on him.
  8. This "contest" seems like a rather non clever attempt at advertising another persons blog. Not sure what this adds to the discussion and worse off it appears the original poster has no plans on giving up his precious "Game used Bat" reward. I think a banning is in order.
  9. If you see my earlier comment you will see that I do realize all this, at no point did I ever say best FA signing in history, best FA signing in the MLB, or the fact that Willingham was going to hit .330 with 40 HR. I just found it interesting that it seems that it has been a really, really long time since the Twins got a bat worth while in the free agent market. Thome was one I forgot, but he was a part time player. Lord knows they tried to bring in other bats, and the majority of which failed. Either way, its clearly looking like Willingham is a bargain at 3/21 when you compare what Cuddyer and Kubel both got. (And this isn't even including the 3 draft picks), As much hate as Ryan gets-I think somewhat unjustly, he deserves a good amount of praise (thus far) for this smart pick up.
  10. I'm not sure why you are focusing half of your argument on batting average, Willingham is a power guy, his OBP and Slug have been pretty solid throughout his career and posted a 125 OPS+ over the past 3 years (including one year in very pitcher friendly Oakland) Obviously no one expects him to hit .300 this year, but a .870 OPS and 27+ HR is hardly out of the question. Honestly, at the very least if healthy he should put up at least a .830 OPS and 25 HR. Molitor definitely had a nice season for the Twins in 1996, but then was decidedly average or below average during the rest of his tenure.
  11. The problem with that rotation is that the best case scenario you have 1 #3 and 4 #4's. I think Hendriks can become a #2/#3 guy eventually, but he's still pretty young/raw. I think they'd have a hell of a time catching the Tigers no matter what, but who knows, maybe if a few teams struggle they could stay in the WC #2 hunt for a while.
  12. I know its early in regards to the Willingham signing, but currently this is looking like the best free agent signing the Twins have made in a very long time. Am I forgetting anyone? (Existing playes who resign don't count ie Puckett)
  13. Except when it isn't a legitimate question to bring up, and it was totally unsupported (other than a random post on the internet by some random dude with a blog)
  14. Should have at least won one game against the Rangers, Perkins was clearly not himself, and they seemed to have left 30+ people on base over that series. Offense will be fine, and could be one of the better ones in the league if everyone stays somewhat healthy. Pitching.....errr....will be interesting to say the least. Blackburn getting healthy, and Liriano pulling his head out of his ass would be a nice start to getting the rotation in a place where people could count on them.
  15. Morneau thus far has been SUPER encouraging, not only is he exceeding my expectations on what he would do this year, but he is starting to suddenly look like the Monreau of old, which would absolutely be huge for this team moving forward.
  16. Sadly he is still a better option then our current "ace" Liriano
  17. Though I think they could/should have sent someone down instead, Hughes was never going to be anything special in the majors. I question his ability to play an even decent defensive INF and he is to injury prone and doesn't hit enough to ever be considered a serious option in the outfield. Hopefully this indicates that the Twins are planning to bring up Dozier very soon, which more or less would have pushed Hughes out of the equation anyways. Blackburn to the DL however would have made the most sense (unless he comes back soon)
  18. Destructive Spam? Credibility? This isn't the New York Times Bonnes... is this same the same "credible" site that as recently as this week (by its creator) suggested that the Twins front office is racist with no basis what so ever? The same credible site where people talk about calling up 19 year olds who have never seen full season A ball into the major leagues? Sorry about hurting your credibility with my "destructive spam" which by the way increased your page views about 20x over a 30 minute period.
  19. No, actually you never informed me in a personal message "what you were doing, why you were doing and that you would reconsider bringing me back after 1 month" First off, one month? LOL slow down Roger Goodell. 2nd off, if you wanted to respond to me directly, I sent you a personal message or whatever you kids call it on facebook. Personal attacks? Me thinks not, you got pissed because I swore one time, and I apologized, I criticized those who tried to bring up the claim that the Twins were somehow "racists" by the most loosely based logic ever posted on the internet. Or at least outside of 4chan.
