  1. I think Kubel was a great signing and I think he will be a helluva DH (platoon). I think he and Hughes are going to be the two guys that have very huge bounce back years. Now I don't see 30 HR in target field, but I think he gets 20 HR, .765 OPS (.790 OPS if they protect him against LHP)
  2. We get it, you don't like Mauer.
  3. He's already impressed Twins' teammates with his sense of humor -- Joe Mauer thinks he's funny and the two laughed Tuesday over a fan offering Mauer suggestions on improving his swing. That was so nice of Stat to offer a free trip to his one on one baseball academy!
  4. Owings would be worth the trade though, that bat appears to be legit. Doubftul they would trade him for just Pinto though... I'm guessing they would much rather part with Didi
  5. Blah, yeah I mixed that up at the last second.
  6. Yeah, Tulo is going to be a 200 million type guy.
  7. Player A is also 3 years younger at was a top 70 prospect prior to last season. I'd still like to hold onto the little C depth we have, and just sign Drew.
  8. Not really, then suddenly Catcher becomes a black hole for the org.
  9. Is this a money league?
  10. I wouldn't do it with Meyer or any of our pitchers personally. (Not that quickly at least) it only takes one arm injury to completely destroy a career, where as a position player doesn't have to worry about that as much. With pitchers I think you at least wait 2-3 years into their major league career so you have some guess on how they can hold up.
  11. Methinks Pinto is the only one getting regular playing time come 2015. I hope I am wrong though, especially in the case of Plouffe being able to hit enough to contribute. Not a ton of faith in Diamond and Parmlee.
  12. I would toss Pelfrey in that group as well as I believe he still has some upside.
  13. I don't see that as over the top, yeah it was a bit of a sarcastic tone, but Kab brings up a good point, the $4 million buy outs wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if it absolutely had to happen.
  14. Yeah it's a risk, we established that. Several more words: Bryce Harper Mike Trout Evan Longoria Giancarlo Stanton Stephen Strausburg David Price Matt Wieters King Felix Joe Mauer Justin Upton BJ Upton even! All #1 or #2 guys over the past few years who easily would be worth said contract offer (especially considering the team options/buyouts)
  15. Prob closer to $3 million after taxes, agents, etc. Certainly a good amount but hardly (whole family set for life)
  16. That's why you sign one of em early to save a bit. Hell though, if the Tigers can have Verlander, Miggy and Scherzer all signed long term, the Twins can make it work.
  17. Dude what are you talking about, he has plenty of trade value, every team in baseball including the Twins would take him in a heartbeat. First off, RBI's are a terrible stat to judge a player, BA is another bad one, 2nd off, he was the top 3rd baseman in WAR in both 2010 and 2011, in 2013 he finished third right behind a certain Miguel Cabrera. He is easily the best 3B in the league now that Miggy is moving back to first. He is pretty much a guarantee at this point for a 6.5-8.0 WAR year. His contract is probably the steal of the century at this point, the guy is a straight up stud and though early, is already playing at a legit hall of fame level.
  18. The angels are paying the price in waiting to long with trout. I wouldn't be opposed to upping it to 22,23,24 mil a year. Yes he could be leaving money on the table, but the appeal of 30+ mil guaranteed (with but out) to a kid who is that young....has to have some bearing, no? It would be hard to turn down such security IMO. Heck even if he tanked I wouldn't mind the deal for the twins 30 mil over 7 years can easily be absorbed....heck that is about as much as we wasted on nishi and Blackburn.
  19. I would gladly wager $100 that he "makes it to the show", I will even give ya 20:1 odds
  20. That is why they are option years, if he falls off the map you buy him out for 4 million.
  21. Kevin Slowey probably should have taken a page out of Glen Perkins playbook if he wanted to stay a major leaguer. Bravo to Glen though for showing some awesome humility, he has been one of my favorite twins now for a couple years, and even though the closer position and saves are a bit over rated IMO, I frankly would love to see him stick around as a twin for life, even if they overpay a bit for "saves" I think this is a positive for the org as well, the Twins come off of "letting bygones be bygones" when a player is open/honest with them. Personally I think the media overblows a lot of this stuff anyways re: conflict, I mean Garza was even seriously considering resigning with Minnesota and Santana looks to be willing to come back as well!
  22. Was thinking the Twins should take the Longoria approach with Buxton, my idea is within days of him reaching the majors, offer him a 6-9 year deal (ideally two-three years of high salary team options for his first 2-3 years of free agency) Obviously there is risk in locking up a guy before he "proves" it in the majors, however for the Twins long term I think it would be in their absolute best interest to do similar. FWIW: Longo's original contract was 6 years/19 mil (44 mil over 9 years with options) And he ended up taking on a ton of years at the end, the Rays now have him for 15 years/144.5 million. If I were the Twins I would certainly do this with Buxton within one week of him cracking the Twins lineup: 6 years/27 million (18, 19, 20 mil options for the first 3 free agent years (4 mil buyouts) 9 Years-84 million to which you can tack on another 5-6 years about 5-6 years into the contract. Ideally I would look into doing it with Sano as well. The risk in these cases would be well worth the rewards! Yeah, you overpay the first 6 years a bit, but I think it would be very hard for him to turn down such a nice amount of guaranteed money. Thoughts?
  23. Um, how so? They went out and signed two legit guys early (the opposite of bargain shopping) in Hughes and Nolasco. The Pelfrey signing was hardly bargain shopping IMHO as well. Their are still plenty of quality FA avail: Drew, Morales, Santana. I don't mind the Twins waiting for the price to come down. It's actually a very smart way to go about things at this point. Drew, Morales, Santana need contracts a lot more than the Twins currently need them (considering the Twins aren't going to contend this year anyways)
  24. Virtually the same....but this team is clearly better than last years! The offseason is far from over as well, they can still add another bat or another arm (thus boosting up the payroll this year) however if they don't and only sign a couple cheap guys, I won't be too bummed as well, as that just opens up more money for next off-season. As I have mentioned time and time agian I think the only areas they should be looking to spend legit money on at this point are: 1. SS 2. SP Everything else has a lot of in house/young options available at this point. I guess you could sign a DH still, but I think Willingham is going to slot in their just fine (and Kubel) at this point. I definitely wouldn't give a multi year deal to a guy who has no defensive value, with the exception of maybe Morales if the deal is affordable enough at 3 years. 3B we have Sano, OF we have Arica, Hicks, Buxton who all need to be given regular at bats at some point in 2014. 1B is set, 2B is set. Catcher is....still a question mark, but there is no one left to pick up.
  25. I would have probably liked Garza over Nolasco, but it's not a huge gap IMHO. Nolasco's durability will be a Godsend for this rotation. Encouraged that the Twins made a very legit and smart offer for Garza, who I tend to think is a bit over-rated amongst these circles. Hopefully this means the Twins would still be willing to spend this off-season on a guy like Drew, and then fill in more gaps next off-season as well. Many encouraging reasons to be a Twins fan right now!
