  1. Is this contest still open?
  2. And two full games in the last three! What does this tell us? Perhaps they were giving him a few days to get used to batting right handed again? They plan on continuing to use Hicks very regularly from here on out.
  3. Why is that exactly? I know he doesn't have some crazy upside, but it's really hard to deny the results he has given the Twins in AAA this year. 2.44 ERA, 8.2 K/9. I think he has earned a shot to see if he can stick around as a cheap #5 for a bit, no?
  4. Matt G, Kubel and Morales are literally blocking no one. If Escobar falters, Santana will get plenty of reps at SS, however Escobar is doing a damn fine job at SS in both phases of the game, and isn't exactly 40 years old himself, why on earth would you have moved him off prior? DeDuno has gotten his chances at starting, Meyer and May weren't exactly Major League ready when the season started, the fact is they are now only "knocking on the door" if a guy like Pelfrey/Correia were getting starts over Gibson at the beginning of this season, I could understand it. Hicks additionally isn't exactly "riding the pine" either, he is still getting plenty of playing time.
  5. Who says they "punted" those positions? They were linked to Drew before the season started, and is it really a reach to think that perhaps they were still interested in him on a one year deal once the draft pick compensation would have gone away? CF is obviously an issue, but frankly there aren't any free agents like Morales out there they can just sign and plug in, rumors had them interested in Jay, but do you want them mortgaging the future to bring him in? Additionally Hicks is starting to show some signs of life in CF. So other than CF/SS I'm not sure what other position it is feasible/makes sense to upgrade at this point.
  6. At this point, I think Correia is done with one more bad start, then I imagine they would give Johnson a start or two to "earn a shot" before turning to May/Meyer. I would guess that shortly after the all-star break we see both May/Meyer in the rotation at the expense of Correia (DFA) and DeDuno (back to the pen)
  7. Yeah, Morales goes without saying, and if the Twins do fall out of it, I think they do end up trading all three. However, if the Twins ultimately are still "in it" at the deadline, and choose to hold steady, I don't think it is going to cost them the future if they don't happen to trade those guys away. I would much rather seem them make a run to the end, and ultimately miss the playoffs by a few games, then be out of it again by July 31st, and add a few extra non top 20 type prospects. The thing is, if Willingham, Morales and Suzuki are all preforming at a level that could bring back a solid trade, chances are that the Twins are right in the thick of the divisional and WC races.
  8. True, that is a good point. I just hate having him up here to only play 2 days a week if that's the case. Maybe they inch closer towards a 50/50 split at Catcher and utilize him more as a PH as well.
  9. New York: Yes, New York is old and full of injury risk players. Baltimore: Prob the best of the bunch of that group, they would be the toughest. Texas: Not a good team this year, injuries have destroyed them. Seattle: Yes. LA: Yes Clev: Yes Boston: This will be tough.
  10. I honestly don't see how anyone can dislike this move. The idea that Willingham/Correia/Suzuki were somehow going to bring back some stud prospects for the future is frankly just incorrect, at best you are looking at some C level prospects who at best would be role players moving forward. I'm glad the Twins are going for it at this stage, hopefully this allows them eventually to send Pinto down to get some more work defensively so someday he truly can become an everyday catcher, I don't think he will hit enough to work at DH, so I think this is very important. Morales is a stud and instantly becomes this lineups best hitter (until Mauer gets it back)
  11. Yes. Per MLB Five years after Stephen Strasburg went No. 1 overall in the Draft, San Diego State has another hard-throwing right-hander poised to go in the first round. Unlike Strasburg, Cederoth was a prospect in high school, too, though signability knocked him down to the 41st round in 2011. He can light up a radar gun like no other college arm in this year's Draft, as he's capable of working in the mid 90s and hitting 98 mph with his fastball, with triple-digits within reach in shorter stints. Cederoth has a lot of moving parts in his delivery and still is learning to control his 6-foot-6 frame, so he lacks consistency with the rest of his pitches as well as his control and command. His low-80s slider has the most potential of his secondary offerings, and he also throws a curveball and a changeup. Cederoth moved to the bullpen this spring and was throwing well as San Diego State's closer. If he can't develop a reliable second weapon and do a better job of locating his pitches, that could be his long-term role at the next level.
  12. There aren't exactly a lot of hard throwing starters left in the 3rd round...the guys you are looking at that are "sure thing starters" at this point are just more of the same 90-92 that the Twins have plenty of. Additionally Cederoth has the ability to start and throws really, really, really hard. Ideally the Twins can teach him secondary pitches and he can succeed as a starter, however if he doesn't, hell you got another guy who throws 98 who can slot into the bullpen rather quickly.
  13. I don't know what people expect with 3rd round picks etc, people are going to complain either way. I love the fact they are taking power arms.
  14. Yes, those were a really nice 4 games, fueled somewhat but a lucky .219 BABIP. He also has had some bad starts, and still is walking too many folks in some of his games. Gardy is right, he has been up and down. Don't get me wrong, I have high hopes for May, but he isn't exactly a can't miss guy, and I could see his BB issues biting him big time in the ass in the majors where hitters are much more patient.
  15. I was seriously about to do a response stating this but saw that you beat me too it.
  16. Agreed, also I think he was saying that in response to all the writers/bloggers/fans clamoring up and down for May/Meyer up RIGHT NOW. Additionally, he is right, they have been up and down.
  17. I wan't May/Meyer up as much as anyone, but please, let's cut down on the hyperbole. Neither May or Meyer are "dominating" AAA, both look great, but both have some red flags still. Correia, though frustrating actually had put together 3 solid games prior to last night. I'm guessing if he has a significant slide again (3 out of 4 bad starts) he will be gone.
  18. It was a rebuilding year, however that doesn't mean teams can break out sooner than thought. The Twins would hardly be the first team to "come out of nowhere" and make a run, that is the beauty of sports, no? My real mistake was responding to Thrylos tired meme of "Fire everyone on the Twins" Hot Sports Opinion. As far as what they did in the off-season, I'd argue the majority of the moves they made were to help out the team for the future, Nolasco, Hughes and yes even Pelfrey (Sigh) were done with 2015-2016 in mind just as much as 2014 IMHO. Suzuki was brought in as a bridge between the Mauer era to the Pinto era IMO, fortunately that has worked out in the Twins favor as well. The fact they didn't trade any prospects, or go after any of the big one year type guys (Drew, Morales) etc indicates to me at least they were focused on the future as their primary goal, while having a secondary goal of improving the current ball club to at least one that would have a shot to compete, and wouldn't be a given to lose 90+ games.
  19. No, I don't think he was showing up the other team at all. It was literally feet away from going foul instead of fair. I have seen other players watch it in these situations as well. It would be different if it was hit to CF. I don't view it as him showing up the other team at all.
  20. It depends on what the exact ask is. As long as it isn't over the top I think you have to consider making the deal, as mentioned, you can always turn around and trade him again (for a similar package) a year away if Buxton etc are ready. Or you can have him play a pretty solid LF for you with Buxton in CF if Hicks totally bombs out.
  21. The play 2nd, bat 2nd has been an institution for this org SIR! Let's just be happy that for the first time in near forever it actually is slotted by a player who is an impact player.
  22. I think it's the perfect scenario for Hicks, also as a note he wasn't benched right away, they threw him out to the wolves for about 5 games after he made the switch. Now it gives Hicks the time to really work on hitting RHP as a righty in the cages/BP and build up his confidence that way. I legimatelly felt terrible for the guy when they tossed him out there to face Tanaka, but he at least showed signs of holding his own. Santana is nothing more than a band-aid in CF at this point IMO, Fuld doesn't do anything for me either. Either Hicks needs to step up or the Twins need to bring one in via trade.
  23. Never saw a thread on here, but apparently the Twins have some interest in Cardinals CF Jon Jay. Not the sexiest player alive, but Jay is a very consistent CF who would instantly improve this team at their weakest position. He will give you close to a .290 BA with a .750 OPS, and his CF defense, while not spectacular rates somewhere close to the league average for CF. Assuming the price is right, I imagine you have to explore bringing him in? Best case scenario is he preforms well this year, and can always be traded out again once Hicks/Buxton are ready for the position full time. Additionally he hits enough where he wouldn't kill your team in LF/RF for a time as well.
  24. It certainly sucks, I'm sure if needed they can always bring in a bat at the deadline. However I look up and down this lineup and honestly don't see many holes besides the huge gaping one in CF. OF- Willingham, Arcia is a nice start, the key with both of these guys are health. Defensively ideally Arcia continues to grow, however they both have bats that can stick in LF/RF. CF is obviously a huge hole. INF- Plouffe, Dozier and Mauer are gonna produce. Escobar has been a nice surprise at SS and suddenly we have some other options with bats as well with Nunez and Santana. C/DH- Susukiz and Pinto are both doing great. I think the key with this lineup is health, especially in the OF.
  25. No. I think its dumb to assign an arbitrary number to the "well if they win this many games Gardy and Terry have to go, if they win this many games they stay" I can't see any reason why I would agree with a Gardy or even more so Ryan firing at this point. This was clearly a rebuilding year with the eye on 2015 hopefully when the youngsters are up and performing. I can't envision a scenario where I would fire Ryan, he has done a real nice job recently rebuilding this team. His free agent signings have been very solid overall and the Hughes signing alone could be the signing off the off-season in all of baseball. The only way I could see firing Gardy is that if the wheels completely fall off and they lose 90+ games in addition to him losing the clubhouse (Which I don't see happening)
