  1. You really need to cool it with distorting everything I am saying, you are putting words in my mouth in order to make me look like some sort of idiot. Seriously, drop it. I said DeVries results for the Twins were satisfactory, results are ultimately what wins games. Whether it was 100% or 100% skill the fact is that DeVries giving the Twins an ERA+ of 100 while he was with them, was an asset at the time due to those results (regardless of how he got there)
  2. He started a good number of games for the Twins and gave them a respectable ERA and ERA+ that is the definition of good results. His FIP is/was irrelevant, his results are relevant.
  3. They aren't false statements and frankly I think you should watch your tone a bit and be respectful of posters who you disagree with. The Twins needed a pitcher to replace DeDuno for tomorrows start, Pino on normal rest etc is a better option then May who just pitched Monday. Meyer is/was not an option to bring up at this point due to other factors.
  4. I didn't say it was the best I said it was better, but I also said its not perfect. Luck plays a role in FIP as well, take Trevor May for example: Do you think his 0.36 HR/9 rate is going to continue? Or do you attribute some of that to luck?
  5. Sigh. You aren't bringing him up with the sole purpose of trying to trade him, you are bringing him up because it was his day in the rotation and is a superior option then DeDruno at this point. His ERA, WHIP and k/BB rate show that he has had the best results by far of anyone at AAA, at the end of the day results are what matter and win ball games. I answered your last question with my first answer and my second answer. May and Meyer will be up soon enough, I actually have some insight in to when Meyer will be brought up and why he isn't up yet.. but I am not going to waste a source arguing with you guys on a message board
  6. Because they worked perfectly fine as stop gaps and were never viewed or counted on to do more. Im just pointing to the results, you blast the Twins for calling those guys up and giving them starts and I simply point out that they put up a 100 ERA+ which means they provided assets for the Twins while they were up in the majors. What they did or where they are now after the fact has no barring on the fact they gave the Twins good results in their limited time in the majors. If anything this proves the Twins know when to cut bait on pitchers like this, get some good early results out of them, then once the league figures them out/starts hitting em hard, cut em and bring up someone more long term or another stop gap.
  7. At what point did I ever say that luck wasn't playing a part in Pino's numbers? At what point did I eve say Pino would bring back a "good" player in a trade? I just simply said if he succeeds in the MLB he would indeed have trade value. I think FIP is a better indicator of future success but it is far from perfect as well. You are distoring this debate, under no circumstance am I saying Pino is better for the Twins long term or more talented then Meyer/May etc. I am saying that he has earned his shot at a spot start on the Twins due to his ERA (which is some luck driven), WHIP (Some luck driven, but his k rate and bb rate help) and his great k/bb rate (is this luck as well?)
  8. Not true, it has been said by folks on here that if he pitches well then yes, he will earn more starts, but if he bombs his first start then it is highly likely the Twins would bring someone else up. It is very obvious that it is just a stop-gap thing, nobody from the org needs to state it because it is indeed obvious.
  9. The team is competing for a division, in addition to being "in the hunt" they just dropped a nice chunk of change on Morales. In re: Albers etc, who else would you have preferred called up last year at that point? Gibson/DeDuno etc had there chances as well.
  10. As I mentioned bfore, Albers and DeVries actually had effective results in the majors if you have an ERA+ of 100 as a starter you are basically an average SP, which actually means you are an asset and helping your team.
  11. Pino by far has the best results at AAA based on his ERA, WHIP, and k/bb rate. That really can't be refuted. Nobody here is saying Pino is some better long term answer then May/Meyer, they are simply saying he has more then earned a spot start chance, and gives the Twins a better chance to win then if DeDuno was starting tomorrow.
  12. I don't understand the DeVries hate, he did pretty admirably for the Twins in 2012 where he started 16 games, gave them a 4.11 ERA and 100 ERA+, was he ever a long term answer? Of course not, but he filled in just fine. Albers was a nice story and gave the Twins a couple nice starts, what harm did he cause them? (He also had a 100 ERA+ in his time with the Twins) If anything the Twins have been pretty good at figuring out a way to bring up short term stop gaps who will actually be a benefit to the team.
  13. I'm sure plenty of people would have said that in re: to Butera as well, if Pino can show some success/value in the majors, he will have trade value.
  14. It's one start, in which Pino lines up perfectly for (May would not be ready by Thursday) I could understand your point if the Twins said "Pino is our guy the rest of the year" but they are clearly bringing him up for one start, if he does well he will stay, if he doesn't he will likely go back down or down to the pen. You can bring up the luck thing all you want, when you are striking out a batter per inning and not walking a bunch (again a WHIP lower then 1.000) you are clearly doing something right. Frankly, I would love for whatever "luck" he is tossing out to continue for the Twins for a few games. At the end of the day it's about results, Pino's results have been the best of the bunch in AAA which is why he certainly deserves a chance to start a game in the majors. Results are what count, and his results thus far have been great, if he can translate said results into the majors (I don't care if its 100% luck based at that point) then the Twins are better off for it. Even if its only one start and then replacing someone in the bullpen afterwards.
  15. Your sarcasm in which you answered your own question a couple posts above is dully noted. If he can prove effective in the majors, he will therefore have some trade value, if Drew Butera can bring back a player, then I imagine so can a pitcher who may/may not be able to be a 5th/6th SP type guy. As far as "what is this third grade comment?" I don't understand what you are getting at, in most phases of life people get rewarded for doing well, Pino has done very well in AAA and has more than earned a shot, they are giving him a start, it's not like they just gave him a 4 year contract or anything...
  16. Awesome comments from Perkins and he is spot on, one thinks that combined with Gardy talking about pretty much the same thing perhaps Pinto was the only one who thought his defense was satisfactory at this level? Anyways, improving Pinto's defense is his best and perhaps only chance to stick in the majors for a decent amount of time, he is a nice hitter, but I don't think he hits enough to slot in as a traditional DH most of the time. Maybe ultimately he becomes a Ryan Doumit (back up catcher, part time DH, nice PH off the bench) which would be fine, however it would be a shame if he couldnt stick behind the dish as a starter for a few years prior.
  17. One of the most satisfying endings I have seen in a good long time. One of the best overall seasons of television I have seen. It will be interesting to see if they can duplicate this magic in season 2. Spoilers obviously.... What I really like about this show is it really gets away from the anti hero meme that basically dominates TV these days. There is very clear good vs evil throughout this show: Molly+Gus are just really great people, they are easy to root for because they are just kind hearted, well meaning people. It's nice to see them "win" Lester+Malvo pretty much are the definition of evil. Very satisfying deaths on both ends. Even Bill, who seemed like kind of a dick, is proven to just be an overall great guy (with his adoption of the African kid) and his speech in the last episode. I also like how the Mr. Wrench storyline never got rapped up, very Coen brothers like. Speaking of Coen brothers: some people didn't like the fact that Molly and Malvo never have a scene together and of course don't have the big showdown the entire series was building too, however this reminded me a bit of No Country for Old Men, where Moss and Chigurh never have the show down that is teased the whole time.
  18. I hope it isn't a one start thing as that would indicate that he struggled in it, I hope he can stick in the rotation for a month or two, allowing the Twins to either. 1. Trade him 2. Trade Correia Thus allowing another opening for May/Meyer etc. Again, Pino has absolutely dominated AAA this year, sub 2 ERA, 9 k/9, sub 1.000 WHIP. He earned his shot, no doubt about it.
  19. I'm guessing it's because Pino slots into the rotation on his normal day to pitch? Also, Pino has more then earned his shot this year 9.0 k/9 1.94 ERA, it is good for an org to show that it will reward players (even non prospects like Pino) and give them a shot if they dominate AAA. Names like DeDuno, Albers, Collabello etc come to mind as well, of course none of those guys became studs, but maybe Pino can stock on the roster in the rotation for a few starts, and then ultimately in the pen for a while. May/Meyer will get there shots.
  20. Have an extra ticket to the game tonight if anyone wants it, first row in pavilion club, was supposed to take a client but they decided to goto thE CWS last second this week instead. Post here (I can't get PM on mobile phone) if you want it and I will have it transferred over via the magic of the inter-webs. The only downside is you have to watch KC pitch.
  21. I give Gardy an A- so far, once again he is proving why he is a top 5 manager in the game. Hopefully the twins can keep it up and win him85
  22. If coaching doesn't matter as some of you claim, then please explain to me how Tom Emanski's teams won back to back to back AAU national amateur titles? Oh what's that? Boxed.
  23. Season was pretty meh overall. They have done a crappy job developing stannis, snow and Dany and her stupid dragons into interesting characters.
