  1. Twins as of now look like a 77-82 win team, if a few things break right that can easily become a 86-88 win team and they can sneak into the playoffs. At that point it's a roll of the dice anyways. I think they can pull it off
  2. The major league paycheck, per diem, private plane and 5 star hotel every night makes someone be humble like that Sounds like Meyer is being advised well by the best agent in baseball Scott Boras himself.
  3. Waste of time, it takes lots of hours and time to learn a language, twins front office need to be focused all they can with every hour they have on fixing this org. Just hire bi lingual folks moving forward, much better use of resources and time. Unless of course they just want to learn basic language skills which doesn't take much time at all, but to become fluent? Not as easy to teach an older adult unless they are fully immersed. Just the reality of the situaion.

  5. Me thinks you are reading wayyyyyy too much into this. Twins fest is nice and all but hardly something to look at even semi closely on who is there and who isn't.
  6. I'd offer him the following assuming he at least looks healthy: $2 million dollar (+ up to 4 million more in incentives based on IP) for 2015 Team option 4 million (plus 5 million in incentives) for 2016. This way, Johan gets a decent pay day for 2015, if he comes back to form (slight chance I know) then the Twins get to keep him for an extra year at a team friendly deal. It's not like it would kill the Twins to stash Johan in the bullpen until he is up to speed anyways, better him as the mop up guy to start the year then just another AAAA retread. I think he could actually be an absolute beast in the bullpen, and possibly even could start if everything breaks right. Additionally he would be a GREAT clubhouse presence for some of the younger pitchers. Who better to learn from then one of the best pitchers of the past 15 years?
  7. Hockey is the one sport that is entertaining throughout a game no matter what. Even in a 5-0 blowout the teams are still playing hard and often times you can see a nice fight or two at that point as well (if you like those type of things). Also hockey has the advantage of being a fairly quick 2-2.5 hours overall. On the flipside, watching a college football team up or down by 40 is just a waste of time at that point IMHO. Especially when you are talking about a game that can drag on for 4.5+ hours, factor in getting to the game and leaving you are talking about a full day. At least in hockey you can do many other things in a given day besides the game.
  8. I have left plenty of games early in my day, though only once was it a Twins game and it was at Yankee stadium but I had a good reason, the girlfriend and I sat through a 2 hour rain delay to catch most of the game, but as midnight quickly approached it was clear that sleep was more important then watching the Twins take another beating at the hands of the Yankees. Also it was our 4th date or something and she isn't a real big sports fan to begin with, so I figured 5+ hours of rain soaked bad baseball was pushing my luck enough at that point. Anyone who leaves a playoff game early deserves what they get, those Seahawk fans were complete idiots, as much as the game "appeared" to be over, with that defense you know at any given time they are a simple fumble recovery or a int return away from being back in it (neither of which happened anyways and they STILL won) When I went to school at the University of Oklahoma I'd say I left early in at least 80% of the home games I went to, honestly I still would likely leave most college games early since watching a team beat up another team by 40+ points every week gets old by the start of the 4th quarter (plus....beer!) As for teams I don't care about: I probably goto 50 or so games a year across the country for work that feature teams I could care less about, if the game is boring/out of hand I will often leave midway through a 4th quarter/2nd half, 3rd period etc. Missing an "instant classic" doesn't concern me when we are talking about just one game out of 81 or 162 etc. When it comes to auto racing and NASCAR, I never miss a lap, I don't understand how people can leave a NASCAR race early, everyone knows the last 30-40 laps are the absolute best every.single. race!
  9. Yup, any money you do "save" in this year window would likely be very minimal anyways. Certainly not worth giving up any top prospect for him.
  10. If TR trades Sano and Berrios for one year of Zimmerman (before he inevitably leaves) I might have to stop watching baseball all together. The good news, this will never happen, just Reusse being Reusse (i.e. nothing to pay attention to)
  11. Wow the twins ticket sales team has gotten desperate these days!
  12. I'd give Nolasco away if someone offered to pick up 80% of his contract, other than that I wouldn't actively try to trade any pitcher unless you were getting good value back.
  13. Yes. Other than Joe who by all accounts is a pretty low key guy. Boys will be boys etc
  14. Yes, everyone knows that every married ball player leaves a perfectly "normal" life.
  15. Oh yay! Another bash TR thread! Whether you agree with his moves or not, you can't argue that TR isn't a class act or that he has no business being a GM in baseball. Guy clearly has done a lot right in his time.
  16. If we are gonna give Jason Bartlett an opening day roster spot, surely we can give Johan a minor league contract and invite to ST
  17. Worth a minor league contract, would be cool to see him in Minnesota again and maybe he could be a decent bullpen arm for them. Of course 1% chance he could get healthy and have a nice couple years as a mid rotation guy as well.
  18. When is the mark DeRosa Q&A coming?
  19. I hope when they make it up that Sano wears 98 for his career and Buxton wears 1
  20. Defense statistics are fine but shouldn't be the only thing looked at. They vary way too much year to year, but after you have a large sample size I think it helps paint a picture weighted equally with the "eye" test. The defense will be fine moving forward. I still think hicks ends up being at least average in CF, Hunter honestly can't be as bad as his "numbers" and Arcia...well....he is still young at least? Hope for improvement?
  21. The benefit of paying him in advance for his age 33 year is you don't have to give him a muti year deal after his age 32 year deal(I assume that's when he hits FA)? Taking a little risk in his 33 and 34 year is better than having to shell out a 4 or so year deal at FA for more money covering his 35/36/37 etx years as well. Dozier plays a premium position and at worst will still be above average at said premium position, he also has the op to be good at said position (a notch or so below all star level) those are the players you lock up IMHO.
  22. Id be willing to bet a healthy amount that the 5th starter is neither Pelfrey or Milone unless one absolutely kills it in ST and wins it outright.
  23. Pretty sure Mauer was better defensively by a long shot....
  24. Also one thing to look out for: If May Meyer and Milone all "look the part" more or less I think it opens up a trade possibility in regards to Gibson and to a lesser extend Milone as well. (Obviously I think Nolasco would be the preferred one to be shipped out, but it may take some time to rebuild that trade value) Gibson might be able to net the Twins are solid prospect or fill a hole in another position. (Very good corner OF? MI? C? etc)
  25. My prediction is: May wins the job, Pelfrey to the pen, Meyer to AAA for a month or two to stay stretched out and then either someone gets injured/ineffective or they trade Nolasco to open up room for Meyer by May 31st
