  1. Nolasco on the mound tonight, good news for Twins fans is that Perkins is now on 3 days rest, so he should be plenty fresh when he gets a tune up inning in the bottom of the 8th in a 11-2 ball game.
  2. Which is NOT a good thing, frankly the Twins were lucky to get out of the 9th with a tie game, 9+ years of data shows us that Boyer is not someone you should be counting on in close games/high leverage situations. Yeah, he has had some decent looking numbers as of late (Short Sample size big time) but still is sporting a poor K/BB rate, WHIP and other stats this year which indicate that he is literally a ticking time bomb in that situation. Pressly is a slightly better option, but he too doesn't have the stuff to be a 7th or 8th inning guy and more projects to be a mop up guy/6th inning guy anyways.
  3. Well, if Perkins had only gone one inning then I would let him "close out his win" with a 2nd inning. If not, I would have whoever was the best arm left to try to "Close" it out. I'd still much rather have Perkins pitching in the 9th or 10th inning of a tie game, and leave it up to a random guy up 1, 2 or 3+ runs for the last inning, then have the other guy in the high leverage tie game scenario. At least in the "save" situation for the other guy (assuming Perkins had already pitched when it was tied) he has more margin for error at that point since one run won't lose you the game at that point.
  4. Exactly, which is why Molitor is basically Gardy version 2.0 (which is fine, as I thought Gardy was a solid manager overall) My main thing is when they fired Gardy is that they needed to bring in someone with a totally different approach, not just bring in more of the same. If that was the plan, I much would have preferred they gave Gardy one more year with some actual talent on the roster. Don't get me wrong, I like Molitor and hope he succeeeds, I just haven't seen him doing anything "different" and when you have a team that loses 90+ games a year at somepoint you need to do something different. The least of which is having your best players play in important games: i.e. Perkins, and Rosario over Escobar.
  5. Also why is Escobar getting starts in LF? Escobar is a util inf, he should not be getting starts in the corner OF, it makes zero sense. Rosario, who is part of the future of this club is currently on the major league roster, he should be getting those starts day in and day out, not Escobar who is a back up INF and likely only sticks around for another year or two. Rosario has gotten a hit in 4 of his 5 games, and had 2 in his 2nd to last game, so it's not exactly like he has struggled and hit himself out of the lineup. Even MORE dumbfounding is the fact that Rosario is a lefty, and the Tigers had a righty on the mound. Heck, even GARDY wouldn't make that mistake.
  6. Either the 9th or 10th with the expectation that he goes two innings regardless. Instead, you waste a perfectly rested Glen Perkins and lose a game that the Twins really needed to win. This team is not good enough to lose games where Gibson throws a gem like he did. The good news is with Nolasco on the mound today, Perkins will get even one more day of rest since it will be 8-2 after 3 innings anyways! Gotta make sure Perkins is fresh for a "save scenario" and a save scenario only.
  7. You meant the 11th inning that never came? How did that work out for Molitor again?
  8. Twins are playing on the road, against their rival and best team in the division, they just had an off day and are in extra innings. How on earth do you not bring in Perkins? It really defies logic.
  9. Yes, Molitor had no business being a major league manager in 2015
  10. Twins lose in 10 innings, yet their best relief pitcher doesn't throw a single pitch. Same stupid bullpen usage is more of the same for this team, we may not lose 90 this year, but with more of this garbage decision making the twins likely won't sniff the playoffs yet again.
  11. Um I never once claimed that. I think they are a part, but I also think that winning has a much bigger part and guys performing well like Mauer, Plouffe, Dozier etc also have a part. Is Hunter helping? Of course, I just have a hard time believing that "because the Twins are dancing in the clubhouse after games" that somehow is the biggest reason why they are winning games, I tend to think that the season they are winning games is because they are scoring a lot of runs and Gibson/Pelfrey are getting "ace like" results on the scoreboard. If an article comes out with Arcia/Rosario/Hicks someone talking about how Hunter showed them how to run better routes or actively made them a better hitter, then I am willing to give him a larger share of the credit. Until then? Hunter is just one of 25 that deserves credit for the atmosphere (i.e. one of 25 helping them win)
  12. I'm a fan, Souhan is supposed to be a "professional". Slight difference.
  13. IF and its a BIG IF, 3 of Buxton, Rosario, Hicks and Arcia prove they deserve every day at bats in the lineup, then the solution should be simple: Trade Hunter.
  14. Funny how winning does that... Winning=Good clubhouses 99.9999% of the time no matter if you have Hunter in the clubhouse or A-Rod. Notice how Hamilton was a "good teammate" when the Rangers were winning, but the minute he goes to the Angels and they struggle he is a "bad clubhouse guy". Ditto with A-Rod and pretty much every other player. The clubhouse is a positive place because the Twins have won 9 of 11 games, is Hunter part of that reason? Sure, but so is every other Twin who has played well including Plouffe, Gibson, Rosario, Pelfrey, Thompson, Dozier and yes, even Mauer. Again Souhon comes off like a clown, the Twins are on fire and Mauer has been hitting well during this time (on fire with men on base as people previously point out) taking an inaccurate pot shot at Mauer is just so rubechat-ish.
  15. If they wanted to attract the younger generation just replace with Miley's Party in the USA
  16. Are you serious? Try 80%+ of his career where his numbers are signicantly better than that, or his last 15-20 games etc etc
  17. If only there was a very obvious and specific difference between the medium of where I posted my Hunter thread and where he posted his Mauer pot shots. It's almost if one of us is paid to write for a living and one of us is just a fan posting on a message board.
  18. Also beyond Perkins and maybe Thompson I don't see how you can say the Twins bullpen has been surprisingly effective, I am pretty sure they aren't even league average statistics wise and its not like Duensing, Boyer, Stauffer, Pressly etc are getting unlucky/pitching below their potential. Not to turn this into a bash Souhan thread, but is there actually anything of substance in this article at all? I wish Russo covered the Twins as well as the Wild, at least then we would get accurate articles with substance in them that look like they weren't tossed together in 2 minutes after glancing at a box score.
  19. Mauer hasn't been hitting the cover off the ball and was one of about 10 Twins who had a very slow start, but its worth noting that in the last 20 days or so his OPS is above .800, he has hit 7 of his 8 doubles and has a .311 BA during that time as well, so IMO he has SOMETHING to do with the Twins recent stretch of good play. Ditto with Plouffe who seems to get no love, but actually has better numbers (and plays a more important position and better D) then Hunter. The potshots at mauer in the press get old. Perkins is prob one of my favorite two or three current Twins, but its hard to give him so much praise while not even mentioning the likes of Gibson and Pelfrey (who smoke and mirrors or not) both have had fantastic overall results.
  20. I would also much rather give a 34 year old a 3-4 year contract, then a 29/30 year old a 7-8 year contract.
  21. Any more it's becoming increasingly rare for a guy to be less than 30, (unless he is a Boras client), most teams and players seem open to signing a guy early on to buy out the first couple years of his Free agency (while allowing the player to still eventually getting a big pay day)
  22. National anthem is fine with me, I agree on the performances, maybe leave it to the random Sunday day game or playoff games, I will admit the NHL playoffs does it right usually in Boston and NY as they bring out guys with a ton of "history" with the club to sing it, thats cool, but bringing out some pop singer I have never heard of is lame. GBA is a terrible song and so freaking pointless, the Yankees act like its their duty to force you to stay in your seat for that stuff. It's has nothing to do with 9/11 at this point, it's just some stupid "Yankee way" they continue to sell in order to make themselves feel special. It's 2015, 9/11 was 14 years ago, having facial hair isn't unprofessional, acting like you are somehow better than every other organization isn't "classy" it makes you actually look like a bunch of douchebags.
  23. I wouldn't give 100+ million to an older guy, but 4 years 57 million for Cruz would have been a no brainer, 34,35,36 years he should be fine, and even his 37 year should be fine with his hit tool. We are talking about a guy who you pretty much know who at the very least would be giving you 25 HR and a .840 OPS each of those seasons. You can talk about signing young free agent players all you want, but the reality is those guys are the ones who will set you back 100+, the Upton's, Crawfords etc of the world. Cruz was and remains a no brainer at 4/57 for a team like the Twins. I'd much rather spend 57 mil on a guy who's floor is 23 HR and a .830 OPS then a guy like Nolasco who's ceiling is a mediocre #3 in the AL and more likely a solid but unspectacular 4 (If he can get his crap together) What I am realling trying to say is this: Stop paying for mediocrity, if you are going to spend, spend on a guy who can be an "all star" like Cruz.
