  1. With a day off Monday and one today, I think Perkins should have been brought in for the 9th and 10th. It worked out this time, but could bite them big time in the future. Graham pitched well though.
  2. Bullpen is gonna be the big key moving fwd IMHO. Key will be Tonkin stepping up and fien coming back healthy, if those guys can prove to be a solid 7th and 8th inning bridge to Perkins....I like our chances on staying in the wild card hunt into September
  3. Hell it wasn't even th3 worst stretch for the twins the last 25 years! Give me 2011-2014 over 1993-2000 any day of the week. At least we had hope for the future these last few seasons, the mid to late 90's were BRUTAL.
  4. Ortiz also found a little thing called steroids and HGH after he left the twins. Dude is 10x the cheater A-Rod ever was, don't let the baaawwwwwwsssstoooon strong fans tell you other wise.
  5. It's called a reverse jinx, it worked for dozier, it's working for hunter and hopefully it will work here. Fwiw: I'm one of the folks who took the twins at 75:1 and 100:1 in Vegas to win it all, and bet a nice amount on the over 70.5 wins. (Said they would win 79-84 wins in the pre season prediction thread)
  6. Smoke and mirrors prior to tonight, no way someone like him should be in a high leverage situation moving fwd, also when do we cut him? We all know how it's going to end, the question is how many games we want him to blow... Do we do it after his era gets to 4.00? Or do we wait too long and wait for him to cost 3-4 games?
  7. Yes, unless someone goes on the DL
  8. He was also benched in the middle of a decent stretch, so maybe there is more to this and upset management/Molly some how, either way he still has a couple things to work on in his swing regardless, so some AAA time wouldn't be the end of the world IMHO. Once Arcia is back, things become a bit crowded, I think Hicks needs to stay up, and I wouldn't mind seeing Rosario more as well, which means Arcia could potentially slot in as the DH (while spelling Hunter in RF from time to time)? I have a hard time believing it would be anything related to service time issues, Vargas, while a solid prospect, isn't some blue chipper like Sano/Buxton/Bryant etc
  9. He may have hung around with the major league team for a day or two. I think he will be back up regardless after this Pittsburgh series.
  10. If Pinto is up he needs to be up for Vargas (and getting DH at bats) or needs to be up for Herman and getting back up catcher at bats/playing time. Having Vargas and Pinto (as well as guys like Arcia) all on the same team starts to limit your flexibility with a lot of guys who can't really field, and may or may not be able to hit enough to justify a DH spot. The best thing in the world would be for one of Vargas or Pinto to go on a quick hot streak for a couple months, Sano to be ready and the Twins be able to flip Vargas or Pinto for some solid value.
  11. The Vargas demotion makes plenty of sense, they are on the road against an NL team and Vargas doesn't give you any real flexibility on the bench, and to be honest he isn't exactly hitting lights out so far this year either. He will be back up soon enough and I imagine Bernier will be back down. FWIW: I don't really like Nunez and don't think he is long for this major league team, but he does have some nice numbers this year in a SSS, might as well roll with him until he fades out again.
  12. I said they would likely get 78 to 82 wins prior to the season and if things broke right in several ways (pitching, rookie break outs etc) they could get 86-88 wins and maybe sneak into the wild card. As of now they look like a .500 team who have been lucky, the good news is it only takes one pitcher like berrios, Meyer or a player like Buxton or Mauer to catch fire and dominate in a way that pushes them into that next tier overall.
  13. That is such garbage.
  14. Keep Plouffe around since there is a better chance then not that Sano can't stick at 3rd anyways. Have Sano play RF/1B.
  15. Santana isn't ineligible for the playoffs FYI
  16. Chances are whoever the best pitcher who was on 3-4 day rest. A tiebreaker means that game 162 you aren't going to "hold" any one back, and a one game wild card likely means you had to play until game 161 or 162 anyways.
  17. If the Twins make the playoffs that means two of Berrios, Santana, Meyer will have to step up to becomes studs this season. So, if they make the playoffs I would guess the rotation would be some combo of these four: Hughes, Santana, (Berrios/Meyer), Gibson
  18. What? That can't be right.
  19. 30.9 to 19.1 WAR is what he was likely using (Fangraphs WAR) you are using bWAR. Also Mauer made 121.25 million from 2008 to the end of 2014, I'm guessing he hasn't included 2015 yet because we aren't even 1/4th through the season. But Hunter made 105.5 million during that time, so it looks like Mr Gleemans numbers are off on that end. (I thought 5% seemed really really small)
  20. That larger point doesn't remain, because when Mauer signed his deal and when Hunter signed his deal they were in completely different circumstances. Mauer was still in the prime of his career and playing like a perennial MVP type player at one of the most important/hardest positions in baseball, I don't think anyone thought the Twins got a bargain in his deal (even at the time) but it made sense to lock up one of the best 5 players in franchise history long term in the prime of his career. Hunter was signed as a 39 year old free agent (he is currently the oldest every day positional player in the MLB) coming off a year where his defense was poor and his offense declined (though to be fair was still decent) additionally Hunter plays the least important position in baseball where there is a lot more supply then versus CF, C, SS, 2B etc. Now, if Mauer's contract had ended at the end of 2014, and the Twins signed him for 2015-2018 for 20 million a year or so, THEN the comparison would be accurate.
  21. After re-reading it, there is just no way that Souhan can believe one word of what he is saying, he is just falling back on the old "let's toss out a hots sports opinion" to get the views/conversation buzzing. Sports radio hosts (the original trolls) have been doing it for decades, so no surprise here. Hell, look at Twinsdaily now even (a place that has much higher levels of conversation/discourse then 99% of the web) the most popular/viewed topic is that genius think piece that some troll wrote titled "stick a fork in Hunter he is done" HSO's (Hot sports opinions) make the world go around. With all that said, its hard to get too worked up over Souhan's article, and in fact the only time I ever read Souhan (or anyone else in the papers besides Russo) is when someone posts a link to it on these forums. If you really don't like Souhan, the best thing you can do is stop driving eyeballs to his drivel, because the fact is: If his article gets 5x more reads then a typical Strib column, he will start churning out more and more of it.
  22. FYI this rangers Caps game 7 has been amazing, looking like OT soon, I suggest all tune to NBCSN to catch it after this game
  23. Hopefully we still won't need Perk tonight
