  1. I thought and obviously still think they should have brought in Cruz on a multi-year deal. Stabilize the middle of your order and a corner OF position for 3 years and let Rosario, Arcia and Hicks battle it out for the other spot and the 4th OF spot (Hicks) whoever doesn't make it makes a solid trade piece or depth option. But it is what it is, Hunter has been solid with the bat so far, however if he keeps it up and the Twins fall out of contention I hope they do the right thing and trade him for any asset they can get.
  2. You do realize that the GM makes the roster moves, correct?
  3. The problem with his defense is he can't get to a whole lot of balls these days, if we had strike out pitchers in the rotation and pen it wouldn't matter as much, but the reality is if you have Arcia and Hunter in the same OF at the same time, you have a severe disadvantage with your OF defense. Now, maybe if you have Rosario or Hicks in LF and Buxton in CF, then you can rely on them enough where Hunter's lack of range doesn't hurt you.
  4. I will be the first one to admit I am looking like an idiot on this one, and I hope Hunter keeps this up. But let's pump the brakes a bit before we declare this the greatest signing ever, lot of season left for Hunter and the Twins, and I will be rooting for them both, however recent history and about 100 years of history tells us that it's rather unlikely that Hunter can keep up this hot streak (again I hope he does as he was one of my favorite Twins) What is interesting now moving forward: If Rosario proves he is "here to stay", and Buxton keeps knocking on the door and is up in June, what do you do at OF? Specifically with Arcia/Hunter, one of those two might have to be traded, no? It's really to bad that Mauer still isn't at catcher so you could just put Vargas at 1st and let one of Arcia or Hunter DH, but it is what it is. Glad the Twins are winning and good to see Hunter hitting, hopefully he can keep it up.
  5. I think at most a manager adds or subtracts 3 wins or losses in a year (at most) so I am guessing Gardy would have this team at either 16-13,17-12 or 15-14 at this point. The twins are playing well because the pitching has been solid, and they are getting timely hitting
  6. Works every time Perfect motivation for Dozier a couple Years ago, and perfect motivation for Hunter. Your welcome twins fans!
  7. meh, still 6 million too much.
  8. Another thing: I found it very confusing on why they played the national anthem before the NFL draft, just seemed so random.
  9. What a ridiculous "controversy" http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2015/05/07/why-are-some-twins-players-absent-for-national-anthem/ Frankly anything the Twins do stopping short of supporting ISIS is fine with me as long as they are winning. Also, why is such a "patriot" taking pictures during the national anthem of the players, shouldn't he be looking towards the flag which is in the exact opposite direction of where he is looking? This is why we can't have nice things!!!!
  10. Grantland loses money hand over fist and Simmons was never worth the salary he was given, which is fine, but if you are losing your company money AND being a malcontent, its not a surprise that they will part ways with him. He should have kept his ego in check a bit, now he may never see a TV gig again unless he signs with Turner, (but then would have to write for Bleacher Report)
  11. How is that any different from the guy we just gave the most free agent money in franchise history to? Or the guy who just hit a home run in his first at bat in the major leagues?
  12. $12 million dollar idea right there.
  13. I wanted a guy like Nelson Cruz all along. He would have bean a steal and actually provides value.
  14. Well when you are making up imaginary stats I can see why you wouldn't think this was a bad move. His WAR as I mentioned in one of the first posts in this thread was 0.0 in 2014
  15. Making a call: Twins will win 88 games and get a wild card spot.
  16. His defense is atrocious and it isn't going to get any better, is it great that he is hitting better? Of course, but he needs to keep it up at a .800 ops pace to even make up for his worst in baseball defense. FWIW his ops + is still only a 90 which is bad, and his WAR currently sits at -0.7. Make no mistake the twins overall are winning games in spite of hunter.
  17. I would gladly have Hicks taking licks then Hunter. At least with Hicks they would finally know if he is a long term fit or not. Hunter for a FACT is not a long term fit.
  18. Frankly I would just cut Nolasco.
  19. Pelfrey has looked solid thus far, keep riding him while he is hot. Also, I don't get why people are so incensed that he was upset about going to the pen (after out preforming Milone in the spring) frankly I like to see a few guys on this team with a little fire at this point..
  20. I'm not sure how his numbers last year support him improving anything on this team, he posted a 0.0 WAR last year which literally means there are about 150 AAAA guys you could replace him with and get the exact same "production" overall. His defense is atrocious at this stage of the game and he doesn't hit enough to be a viable DH (plus the Twins have plenty of DH types already) It sucks because I liked Hunter as a player but it is as clear as day he is done. If the Twins signed him for a 1 year 3 mil contract to be a bench/role/mentor player I wouldn't have an issue, but giving him big money, a spot every day in RF was and remains a huge mistake, one that isn't going to pay off this year or future years.
  21. Hunter was a 0.0 WAR player last year, and is a 0.0 WAR player this year. If that isn't "done" I don't know what is.
  22. Again, irrelevant analogies. Those guys weren't 39 years old when they were struggling for the Twins.
  23. Terrible analogy. Arica is a decade and a half younger and 10x+ cheaper.
  24. I have fired someone before in less than 20 days, I find it better to cut your losses early. Proven winner? I dunno what that even means. Class act? I disagree but that has nothing to do with my point. Can't field, can barely hit due to the fact he swings at everything. Just a big waste of money/dissapointment, which is a shame because he was one of my favorite players his first time here. I don't blame him though, Ryan is the one who offered him about 7 million more then he should have.
