  1. Agreed, Duensing is nothing particularly special, but he has been proven to be at least averagely effective in a major league bullpen which does have value.
  2. Freeing up the roster spot (and to a lesser extent the money) was a win it of itself. It allowed the Twins to give at bats to guys like Cola, Vargas, Pinto, etc to evaluate them for future needs/spots.
  3. So now we can't point out that the Pohlads are cheap and always have been cheap without an instant deletion? Methinks some over moderating is being done again for really no reason.
  4. I'm not sure why all of my prior posts are being deleted for pointing out that this is nothing new from the Pohlad family. Anyways, fans aren't shareholders, the Twins will continue to make millions upon millions from the TV deal alone, yes attendance and all that helps, but the real money just like the other leagues comes from the massive TV deals. At least it isn't a Marlins situation (previous to this year at least). It still IMHO is very possible to compete with a 90-100 mil payroll in this day of age. While I blame the Pohlads for being cheap, the Twins shouldn't use this as an excuse for their pathetic results the past 3 or 4 years.
  5. Say what you want about Diamond, but the Twins did get 2.4 WAR out of him a couple years ago. That alone makes him a really nice "snag" in the rule 5/later trade. I like the Graham pick up, its the definition of a no risk/high reward type play. Even if he doesn't fully recover his prospect status/100 MPH fastball he still could slot into the bullpen. The Twins aren't going to be real competitive anyways, and stashing a guy in the bullpen isn't a hard thing to do even if you are competitive. I look forward to watching him pitch (much more so then Swarzak and the other "long" guys of years past)
  6. Doubftul. Gilmartin was pretty far down on the list of potential arms the Twins would need to call upon and didn't have at on of upside anyways.
  7. The thing is, clubhouse altercations happen all the time in sports, the majority of which are behind closed doors and don't get reported on. For all the "issues" Hunter has had in fights or what not, I can't recall one former teammate or team bashing him out the door or saying he was anything less than a good leader on the field/club house. At the end of the day I want Hunter to teach Hicks/Arcia some OF skills and some skills at the plate. I don't care one bit what he teaches them when it comes to political stances etc as long as it isn't a distraction.
  8. Asking Hunter a question about something he has been actively vocal about in the past as well as recent past is 100% not off limits, Mike's timing may have been a little peculiar but it wasn't a bad or off limits question. And off limits question would be Mike bringing up the rape charges that were previously brought up against Hunter's son. There is a huge difference, one issue is a private family matter, the other is literally just asking a question to Hunter that Hunter himself brought up (by appearing in a political ad) I'd like to see the media take a harder stance on Minnesota Sports in general. The constant losing and chokes by EVERY team has gotten old. Russo is fantastic when it comes to the Wild, hopefully someone can emulate him when it comes to the Twins.
  9. Disagree, any punch that hilariously ends with Nick Punto accidentally taking the brunt of it is awesome, hilarious and should be celebrated. I wish we had video of it.
  10. I worked at gawker for several years and know a lot of the guys, I can assure you gawker and deadspin are both "credible" yes, occasionally media outlets make mistakes, but their wins greatly outweighs their losses. They were founded by a fantastic journalist and their current and former lineup features several great writers. Don't agree with their style? That's fine, but to claim they aren't credible is not right. As for Hunter: I don't agree with his views/political choices but I think he did the right thing for not continuing to talk about it until after his playing days are over, honestly nobody wants to hear it at this point, and while it is sad he has those views hopefully someday he can see the light and come around. If he doesn't call Mike a prick so many times (which is inappropriate as it can get) then I think this is basically a non story. So Hunter once again brought this on himself. Anytime a player lashes out at a media member however it will likely be a story. Hopefully hunter can learn to keep his composure better and ideally we don't have to hear about his thoughts on gay marriage etc this year. I always liked on the field Hunter more then the sometimes blowhard off the field Hunter.
  11. Meh, hard to get real worked up over Nunez. He is a super util guy and dirt cheap, can always be cut for next to nothing. It's not like the twins aren't still twenty plus million under budget.
  12. Ultimately I hope that hunter can motivate/mentor hicks just like he did to span. If he can turn Hicks into a MLB starter then he earns triple his 10 mil salary this year imo
  13. Immense talent. Lots of hype, good stuff, shuffled between pen and rotation. Sound familiar? The royals are likely to non tender crow, if they do the Twins should absolutely pick him up as a potential starter at best and a solid RP at worst.
  14. I don't get this whole "They need to hire outside the org just to hire someone outside the org" bit. The guys they have hired thus far have had little to no relationship with the big league club (Molitor had one year), this organization, while frustrating to watch at the major league level has plenty of good things going for it in the lower levels. Hernandez is a perfect choice for the reasons mentioned above, and Glynn deserved a promotion as well as someone who can provide a fresh set of eyes to the major league roster as well. Pitching coach IMO is the most important hire of them all regardless and I see them going outside the org for sure on that one.
  15. I have been wanting josh Johnson to come home for several years now, I could see this being that year.
  16. I'm guessing the twins knew Maddon had zero interest. Just because they didn't speak directly to him doesn't mean they didn't know he had no desire to come to the Twins. Also we much as I like him I don't think it was in the twins best interests to get into a bidding war with the cubs and possibly dodgers. I hate the cubs, but if he leads them to a World Series he is probably the 2nd most revered chicago sports team related person besides Phil Jackson.
  17. Do it
  18. Will you refund me for the $159 or whatever I paid for MLB ticket this year? (Or for the past 3 years)? Or better yet, donate that money to a charity that would enjoy it. I certainly didn't enjoy this "investment"
  19. I think he takes a gig with MLB network or fox for a year and ends up managing the Yankees or Mets in 2016
  20. If chip Hale was the guy they wanted I'm sure they would have pulled the trigger, or maybe he would prefer the Arizona org over Minnesota anyways?
  21. but I want it nowwwwwww
