I get they can get good players in many rounds. But moving up to me isn't just about a better player in the 1st round. It's the ability to spread a little money around and possibly entice a player or two to forego college because of the extra pool money if you move up. That's a good thing too.

I can see that. As of now it's probably between him and Martin in that respect, depending on if they do trade Castro. Either way, they both would have options right? So I'd imagine both will play this year.

If you have Keirsey, and Buxton is healthy, when would he play? He certainly doesn't fit a platoon with either Wallner or Larnach. I like his skillset. It's something the team doesn't have enough of, which is speed and defense. But it's hard to fit him into what feels like a square peg in a round hole. If they move either Larnach or Wallner, and want to start the year with a platoon in left with Keirsey and some right handed hitting corner outfielder (Mark Canha or Randall Grichuk) that would make more sense. I just have a hard time seeing his fit otherwise.

I’ll take top 6 for sure. Or at least not dropping down to 15, which I believe is the worst that could happen.

What more does he have to prove at AA though, outside of just getting caught back up coming back from surgery?

Zebby would still be considered a rookie in 2025, right? I'd have to think he should be on this list too no? Festa passed the threshold, at least as I understand it.

Depending on what else they do, I'd be ok bringing him in. Even pairing him with Miranda and using the DH, IF both of them are healthy and going well, that's not a bad thing. -
I'm not resigned. It's hard being patient at times as the front office historically has been one to not have rumors come out at all, then all of a sudden a move is announced out of nowhere. I'll compare it to a home; they have good bones on the 26 man roster. Have to have health and some additions to it will help too. But they aren't starting from nothing. I'd imagine more rumor will come out next week with the winter meetings. I wouldn't expect free agency to give much until January or February. But trades certainly will take place this offseason. It'll be fun to see what the opening day roster will look like.

I mean, they won 82 games in 2024 where the bottom fell out starting early August with basically this roster. Are you anticipating the bottom falling out earlier in 2025? Unrelated, I love that Jose Miranda's name is Jose Mirands in the blueprint :)

Just saying, Falvey and this front office have been one of the more aggressive front offices in terms of making moves over the last 5 years or so.

I'm curious how they will use their last 3 40 man spots, if NOTHING else changes. My guess, just back of napkin; A 1B A Corner OF/DH/1B Bat At least one more pitcher to either have someone start at AAA, or have that 40 man option start at AAA. All of that is fungible. I've heard Dan Hayes mention Marc Canha. He along with a 1B would really help balance out the lineup. The other main thing I'd do for this offseason is turn off injuries in the settings menu :)

In the Athletic this morning, Jayson Stark wrote of a potential rule change that may be coming, that is being called the Golden At Bat. Basically, every team would be allowed to have one "golden" at bat per game. That means they could have any hitter "pinch hit" in any spot they chose without replacing the hitter. For example, if the Yankees had 6-7-8 coming up in the bottom of the 9th, they could have Juan Soto hit for one of their hitters instead of the bottom of the order guys. It wouldn't do anything on the defensive side, but just give the best hitter on each team a chance to get another at bat in a crucial spot. I hate it. What do you all think?

I'd be up for it if it is a similar contract to what Pineda got initially. Something like 2 million for 2025 and 8 million for 2026 would make sense, especially since this year would really just be about rehab. Good thought :)

This is an awesome writeup. Thanks! Curious where his eventual/primary defensive home will be. I could see him at 2b, 1b or even the outfield along with 3b. But it'd probably be better for him to be at one spot most often.

So the Dodgers did sign him. 5/182. That’s out of the price range of teams who otherwise would even have a lot of money to spend. Oof. Good for him

Dan Hayes specifically mentioned Mark Canha in his and Aaron Gleeman's roster projection in the Athletic this morning. I guess what I'm saying is, whenever Dan mentions a player by name, it perks my ears up a bit. We'll see.

His arbitration is estimated for around 6.4 million. I'm not certain if that is what he would end up with. So yeah, other money would have to go out/be traded more than likely. I'd be open to it, but not certain they could fit that in.

The Phillies just designated Austin Hays. IF he is healthy and get back to his 2023 levels, that would be a great addition here in my opinion.

I saw Cleveland may designate Sam Hentges. If he is healthy, I would 100% be on board bringing him in. EDIT I had forgotten Hentges will miss the 2025 season. Disregard

It’ll be interesting to see if any of them agree to slightly underslot deals, compared to what their expected arbitration numbers are, today or tomorrow. Otherwise, non tendering any of them just means more 40 man openings. Should make for an interesting offseason
