  1. I agree that Wallner is underrated as a fielder. While most everyone acknowledges his elite throwing arm, Wallner has above average speed and is much improved in his routes to the ball. As a hitter, it is all about making contact. If he strikes out less than a third of the time, the exit velocities and hard hit rates will bear a lot of fruit.
  2. Helman might be saved by Kepler going to the IL.
  3. Who draws the short straw for the Varland recall? It also is likely that Buxton will be activated on Friday, which will mean that a position player will have to go.
  4. Winkel had three hits. It seems his AAA hitting is on a par with Camargo (albeit with less power). Which is the better receiver and thrower? I honestly don’t think Camargo will ever be more than an AAAA guy. Is there hope for Winkel?
  5. Ryan, Ober, Durán and Jax will all be arbitration eligible in 2025. Among the position players, Castro, Larnach, Lewis and Jeffers will be up for arbitration. That is eight big raises for sure.
  6. Thanks for the look at 2025 and beyond. I don't see major changes, just some movement around the edges. This front office regards depth and utility highly. I think that puts Willi Castro in a Twins uni in 2025 with a much higher arb number, Willi wasn't mentioned in this post and he will cost some real money. Also not mentioned was Louie Varland. He could be a big addition to the 'pen if the team is satisfied with López, Ober, Ryan, Paddack, Woods Richardson, Festa, Matthews and Morris as the starters for the season. I don't expect the Twins to part ways with Kirilloff this off season because his value is at an all-time low. The rebounds of Larnach and Miranda should be a lesson in patience with guys with upside. I think Rodriguez is in line for a mid-season promotion adding another lefty outfield bat (with the ability to play center field). Alcalá, Jax and Durán will be the back end of the BP. Sands will be back to see if this year was an outlier (same could be said for Alcalá). I suppose they will hope for some innings from Topa and try to piece together the rest. Maybe Caleb Thielbar comes back on a make-good free agent contract. There is a dearth of left handed pitchers for the Twins, both rotation and bullpen. I don't see the Twins being players for any eight figure free agents. I am hoping they don't trade or non-tender players solely to cut payroll.
  7. Manny looked much slimmer when he played for the Rays.
  8. If Buxton is ready soon, someone will have to be released/demoted. I would guess that would be Helman.
  9. Helman is a RH hitter replacing Margot in that role. He’s played plenty of OF.
  10. Lee’s injury was to his shoulder. So, if he wasn’t moving well, that’s a new one to me. I know he went hitless his last couple of games.
  11. Well, they’re starting three rookies in their rotation. One reliever has been DFA’d by three different teams this year (including the Twins), another was a minor league signing. Three guys not on the major league roster on Opening Day are getting regular at-bats as well as two guys who were sent down for bad performance in the first half of the year. It’s approaching a month since either of the two highest paid position players have played. Yeah, the cupboard is pretty bare. I’m not at all confident this team will make the playoffs.
  12. Robbie needs to play for Cleveland to have AL Central bingo!
  13. No, he's not better when his OPS goes from .839 to .670. Since the month of April, Julien just hasn't been very good at hitting. He improved to acceptable as a fielder last year and has made some strides on defense, but he's got to hit better to be a contributor.
  14. Winder has had a good month of August despite the bad showing against Omaha. Divided between St. Paul and the Twins--15 innings, 12 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks 18 Ks. Lee is a capable defender at third, short and second. If healthy, I expect he can equal the production of Julien, and the recent versions of Miranda, Castro and Lewis. He would also free Castro from shortstop.
  15. I don't think Kepler is 100% and he seems to be a guy who can't perform when he isn't 100% or close. He also might be in Rocco's doghouse, which really isn't a very big space. Guys are banged up all over the major leagues, so I don't think putting together a lineup is only a Rocco problem.
  16. Most likely Lee for the position player. Technically, he is on a rehab assignment, so he's not a minor leaguer. As far as the pitcher--Winder and Varland would be the obvious candidates to add, perhaps both with either Tonkin or Henriquez being sent down or DFA'd.
  17. Luis Arraez might well win his third batting title this year, but the Twins have the better player in Pablo López. Pablo's ERA is still a bit over 4, but he's giving the quality and the innings now when the Twins need it desperately. Is there any question who starts Game One of a possible playoff series for the Twins?
  18. Royce Lewis doesn’t look healthy. Miranda has struggled as has Willi Castro. The lineup that looked so deep a month ago is less than daunting right now. I’m glad they won tonight, but they need reinforcements soon.
  19. He's trusted to pitch deeper into close games than any other starter on the staff. It's fluky that López only struck out three, but he was dominant tonight, limited hard contact, walked no one and allowed no runs. Next year he'll be paid like an ace.
  20. Apparently Brooks isn't ready to return to the Twins. Waiting for Buxton and Correa seems to be one of those things--they're coming the day after tomorrow (which never comes). The Twins may or may not limp into the playoffs, but as presently constructed they are really a threat.
  21. There is only one lefty in the bullpen, that is Thielbar.
  22. Up-downs are a thing for short relievers.
