  1. Not knowing but proving we both thought the same thing when he didn't attempt to square up and try to bunt on 2nd pitch. I haven't been a Margot hater as others might be, he did get key hit with runners in scoring position already. Little things at times for putting pressure in the defense to get you out is irritating. Good win, keep the wins coming
  2. so he fits right in for the dreaded 3rd time through the lineup mantra. Paddack on innings watch rest of the year, so need a body or two help alleviate a straight bullpen game
  3. Small ball is just as important as putting the ball in the seats. 2 cases in point: Extra inning loss to Brewers with man on 2nd to start the inning, Castro wanted to be the hero swings at low first pitch strike and lazily flies out to CF. I don't care if defense is going to pinch the corners which they they weren't at the time of 1st pitch. Job is to move the runner to 3rd, didn't happen. Margot last night half hearted attempt at 1st pitch bunt and didn't even come close to getting on ground in play. Swings with all his might to and K's on pitches out of the zone. He had no intentions of moving the guy over. Small ball means putting pressure on the defense to execute for outs and Twins don't do it enough or one could say at all. Bunting doesn't always mean for base hits. Hell Brewers bunted multiple times and Twins didn't execute on defense well enough.
  4. lefty innings eater wouldn't be a bad move. A contending team will bite
  5. There were positives and negatives in his two starts. He got exposure with the big club and gave us 2 starts where we went 1-1 in those games, so not a bad day. He had one bad inning in one the starts where some plays could have been made in support, so his ERA took a blow. If he learns from the mistakes and capitalizes on the positives, works hard, we will see him again.
  6. How many good club house guys do you need that aren't pulling their weight on the field? I like Farmer, but he hasn't done a lick to stay on the team. I heard at least 1/2 dozen good club house guys mentioned this year, sounds like too many cooks in the kitchen or just another reason to hold onto a good guy. $6MM for good club house guy is not money well spent
  7. Nice recognition to be selected and the way the system is flawed, getting in on fan vote sinks the Twins today. Regardless of market size, fans dictating starters for the the team is quite laughable. So, bottom line the only plus to being named an All-Star is the bonus $ in your contract clause. Get some rest, heal up and smoke the division in the 2nd half like last year. Being a 2nd or 3rd seed so much better than 5th or 6th and potentially facing a Yank or Oriole in round one on the road
  8. All good points and I'll add on to the conversation. Kids growing up playing baseball all the way through college still run into the same problem today. Not many lefties on the mound at all levels of baseball. Righties from a stat a couple years ago were 80% at MLB level, College roughly the same and almost 90% at the youth levels prior to college. So Righty vs Righty is way more common to hone your skills growing up and now it is not much of a concern as you did it your whole life. Lee and Castro as switch hitters can cover any change in pitchers during any point in the game. Sometimes you have to let lefty bats stay in the game vs Lefty pitching, especially middle innings of a game. I like the position the Twins are in with a tough decision having to be made when all are healthy. Farmer would be the odd man out as I wouldn't be sending Lee down when Lewis is back healthy which still may be a month or so. Lee will have his moments of failure, players all do but his mental prep based on playing for a coaching dad makes me believe it will a small bump in his career vs a sink hole that Farmer is in. Great 2 wins, shame Friday night slugfest didn't go our way
  9. Even if Thielbar wasn't instructed to hit the Carrol, nothing wrong with let one fly to the back stop behind him and then get the out.
  10. Mike, kind of agree, but he did just get lit up in last start at AAA. Now the flip side is has been okay last couple of big club starts. Some folks reference our AAA hitters and does it translate to big club due to quality of pitchers at AAA... does it not say something about AAA starters if they get crushed? Reason I pose the question is do we believe Varland jus thad a bad day or just isn't a good starter option. I don't know good answer, but on paper stats don't look great.
  11. Don't need to trade for an aging lefty in the pen and give up pieces: Welcome back to the show Funderburk
  12. Long season, but brutal loss last night. The throw by Lewis was not good. Tried to make up for by swinging at curve low away on 1st pitch for a week ground out. Kepler getting blown away on 89 Fatballs down the middle and Correa who has been on a heater replicating Lewis at bat with soft fly to left. Now the flip side, someone goes deep and Twins win, we celebrate, I get it. Fundamental baseball cost us the game in extra's. Plain and simple Win today, win the series and start another streak.
  13. I have lived in "da Burgh" for the last 31 years and for someone who lives here, your write-up was fantastic. Pittsburgh is a very proud city for many of their neighborhoods that tie it back to nationalities. Lawrenceville home away from home for your trip, definitely was a home run choice, well done. Strip district Primanti's would be the spot to get that authentic yinzer bartender/waitress all in one experience. Order your sandwich and an IC Light, but don't dare tell them to take anything off the sandwich! Rookie mistake my very first time there back in '94 with my future father-in-law on a trip to the strip for his monthly saturday morning fresh food groceries run. Glad you got to experience the city, although the outcome of the first two games didn't add to any joy for the Twins fans. Take care
  14. Mike I agree, just wondering when we talk about trade value assets and log jam of players, would we not think about those two? I don't have a strong position one way or the other. I like what both can bring to the table and the proverbial "sophomore slump" caught them both early in the season. Julien worked hard on defense at 2nd but does it stick. Wallner if given a chance sooner than later I hope, could be the next one to man the OF for long time. Or do we move them and look at our younger assets that people say are better prospects, which on paper maybe but who knows. We give FO a bunch of grief, but very tough job in my opinion to get them right every time.
  15. Let's look at it another way, which I'm not sold one way or the other, but do we see Wallner as the long term solution in a corner outfield role? Will Kepler be retained on a "potential" team friendly deal to keep him a twin for life? If so, is Wallner redundant is his best position is RF? Would his AAA reclamation warrant a package deal with a high end prospect or two to go after a top end starter for the rotation? Wallner had a few moments last year but nothing this year. Same could be said for Julien if we package Wallner with him and a prospect or two. Do either of them really fit our long term plans?
  16. Take care of business. Score early and often and have a great day!
  17. When MLB Hitters get to Tee Off on Minor Leaguers Batting Practice today you score 17. Maybe, just maybe some these guys will continue to wake up and keep it rolling over the weekend
  18. down a quick 1-0 on stolen base, poor throw error on Vazquez resulting in error and runner to 3rd, sac fly. Yeah Twins
  19. I like them compared to some really bad designs: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/39776958/tracking-mlb-city-connect-jerseys-uniforms
  20. will be at the ballgame tonight as I live in Pgh... looking forward to seeing how they rebound from NY series
  21. Waiting to see if Hans wants to give Kudos to Vazquez for his pitch calling sequences, especially since 2 strike hanging curve to Stanton was blasted into the night.
  22. TBS National Game of the Week broadcast may help you tonight. 5th time the Yankees will be in through June of this year. TBS must be the home away from home broadcast partner
