  1. I didn't see a game thread started yet, so here is one. TWINS (yeahhh!) : Mitch Garver [R] C Jorge Polanco SS Nelson Cruz [R] DH Eddie Rosario [L] LF C.J. Cron [R] 1B Marwin Gonzalez 3B Jonathan Schoop [R] 2B Max Kepler [L] RF Byron Buxton [R] CF Michael Pineda [R] SP ASTROS (booo!) : George Springer [R] CF Jose Altuve [R] 2B Alex Bregman [R] 3B Michael Brantley [L] LF Carlos Correa [R] SS Yuli Gurriel [R] 1B Josh Reddick [L] RF Tyler White [R] DH Max Stassi [R] C Wade Miley [L] SP One Thing To Think About: Kepler is not leading off against the lefty. His R/L splits are still small-sample-size, but are poor on the lefty side of the ledger. The rest of the lineup more or less resembles yesterday's. I like Kepler at 8th ahead of Buxton, to not clog up the bases unduly for our speediest guy if both do get on. Of course, even Jesse Owens might clog the bases in front of Buxton.
  2. If that's the prognosis, the tough part will be pitching without fear. I have no idea how that can be done, after this incident.
  3. I blame Twins fans. They support the team, which allows ownership to continue, who hired Dave St Peter and approved his choice of FalVine. In fact, I blame you specifically, you Twins Fan, you.
  4. Agreed. I think there was considerable luck in the way the carom came basically straight to Rosario. He chose a reasonable spot to be at, but the ball could have gone in a variety of other directions.
  5. Tough to watch someone unable to keep his legs under him from the pain.
  6. Nobody's going to die. It's all just ink on a page, electrons on a screen.
  7. I'm glad I went to college, and I can't deny a competitive aspect to my schooling (dating back at least to Kindergarten - I have been hard to be around at any age ). Somehow I didn't catch on that that was the value you were driving at, as a way for one individual to leapfrog other individuals in our various social castes. But I don't see college as being valuable for its exclusivity. It's valuable if it teaches the most, to the most people. Now, I do agree with the mild backlash that trade schools should be given more emphasis than they get now. And I am not in favor of kids lingering in school just to delay their eventual emergence into the workforce. But the world today has too much going on to get all the important stuff across by age 18. If you've got anything on the ball, we're all better off if you keep at your schooling. I got so angry when Senator Santorum during a campaign speech railed against Obama for some kind of "college for all" proposal back in the day. "What... a... SNOB!" he said snidely. That POV intentionally misses the point in order to stoke resentment.
  8. He has by now become a longshot for eventual enshrinement in the Hall Of Fame. But if Byron Buxton gets there, it won't be as a ninth-spot hitter. Still, I'm not in a rush. Riverbrian and I went back and forth on this already, and I still feel that there's no urgency to change something that is currently working. Buxton struggled for so long, and one of the ideas was to bat him ninth to remove some of the pressure. The fact it's working doesn't tell you when it's time to change. If Rocco announces tomorrow that Byron's batting leadoff, I won't be upset and won't second guess. I think it's nearly impossible for someone on the outside looking in to know the exact set of conditions that need to be met in order to move him up. This is as much about his mindset as anything else.
  9. Pretty much like public 8th grade dilutes the value of going to high school. I'm genuinely not sure what value you see in college that would be lost.
  10. If a vendor had been hawking hot toddies at the chilly series at Shea earlier this month I might have been a buyer.
  11. Contenders also lose unexpectedly to cellar-dwellers in August and September. It's a long season with many ups and downs. I'm in agreement with your main point, though, not to get too worked up or enthused at this time.
  12. My tiny bit of observation on the back fields during Spring Training one year was that Bruno was all about yukking it up on the field like he still wanted to be one of the players. That doesn't preclude being a positive influence on young hitters but my impression was that it was a little short of professionalism. I didn't pick up on any hyper-intensity at that time, FWIW.
  13. You call umps Stuttering Stanley?
  14. Let it not be failed to be said that you are not a man of absolute integrity, my friend.
  15. A series with Baltimore has the chance to do that for you. Let's revisit after seeing how it goes with Houston.
  16. Had to step away from the keyboard for a bit. What'd I miss? I see they won.
  17. Even against the lefty, I do not want to see Mejia brought in with bases loaded.
  18. Cron continues to make me happy on defense.
  19. Buxton's slowing down in his old age. I remember when he wouldn't have been doubled up like that.
  20. Nice having a third baseman working behind the plate, for that popup!
