  1. You probably know this, but in case anyone reading the thread is unsure, Willians Astudillo was injured running the bases. And in the winter Venezuelan league this offseason, he played more innings in the outfield for Caribes de Anzoategui than catcher or infield - continuing a pattern his entire 5 years with that team. The discussion has diverged (which is fine) from the title concerning Willians and Marwin, and I presume you are referring to others who have suffered injury.
  2. I presume every other team is getting gift hits like that from the Orioles. We shouldn't toss ours back either.
  3. "So, Chris, tell me, did Miguel Castro lose a bet, or what?"
  4. Miguel Castro wears a necklace that says "hi mom". Witty rejoinder contest.... go. / ninja'd by drock, but I'd still like to encourage some good responses.
  5. Chris Davis is by this point just a one-tool player, but as tools go, HR power is one of the better ones. / PS, Morneausie jinxed Kyle with his comment about 4-0 being a comfortable lead against some teams but not others.
  6. Kepler has an extreme "don't over-grip the bat" grip, with those fingers always splayed out like he does.
  7. He has people for that. "Mr. Sano. You see this article, over here? Right, another one to not read."
  8. On pace for a second straight good game, he has started a fresh streak.
  9. Kyle Gibson was charged with a fielding error in 2015. Now this. It's starting to be a pattern.
  10. See, this gentleman had no such mixed feelings.
  11. You didn't specify which inning you wanted.
  12. Did Marwin step in the bucket on that 2-0 pitch? It was an ugly swing on a hittable pitch. He didn't do a lot better on that popup on 2-1, but it worked out. How many times do we have to say, "I'd hate to have to root for this Orioles team"? It's one thing to not have good fielding on a team that mashes, but they have neither.
  13. When you take away the best results, and they still are on a 96-win pace, that's a pretty awesome year.
  14. Only a first-impression, but Dwight Smith Jr looks brutal out there in LF. He should drop the Jr. from his uniform, so as to not embarrass his dad. / edit - oh, THAT Dwight Smith. I checked baseball-reference, and just going by numbers his dad wasn't an asset in the corner outfield positions, either.
  15. No, that's specifically covered in the rules. Here's an MLB page with a pretty readable explanation. http://m.mlb.com/glossary/standard-stats/caught-stealing If he dives back to first, then it's not CS. If, less-commonly, he is caught so badly that he tries for second, then it probably is; the Official Scorer might have to make the determination.
  16. Marwin can play 3B, I must grant that.
  17. If Castro moves any deeper, the umpire will stop giving the borderline calls, on the grounds that he can not see. The importance of Castro lies almost entirely in the rules, namely how guys without minor-league options can not be treated the same way as those who do still have them. Had we dispensed with Castro earlier in 2019, we'd be feeling uncomfortable now, with Astudillo dinged up. Had Astudillo been optioned (the other main alternative if that spot on the roster was needed), and then got dinged up at Rochester, we still have two MLB-caliber catchers - and if one of the other two catchers was dinged instead, likewise with a quick call-up. It boils down to not doing the irreversible roster move until you have to.
  18. I am more concerned that the league is going to look into Melvi Acosta slamming doors on opponents.
  19. There was more than the lament since you went to the trouble of naming two players as comps. It left your point very unclear. In any case, I'd like the same thing too. But I don't see the purpose in bringing up Kirilloff in particular, since he lost a year to surgery. And even Lewis isn't a good comp - it's not like the Twins allow someone with numbers like Vlad's to languish in the low minors, because few prospects put up those kinds of numbers period. Vlad has rewarded his organization with better batting performance at every level than Royce Lewis has. That's OK, since Lewis brings huge potential value as a middle infielder. But Vlad got promoted when it became clear his bat was too good for his league, with OPS in the .900 range each time, and Lewis has moved up too when his OPS was above .800. Lewis is also a few months younger than Vlad - he's not older and languishing. Again, you brought up the two Twins prospects. You can't expect to not get a reaction.
  20. No, nothing I am aware of has changed. If you want to post a GIF/JPG from the Internet, click the "Image" icon to the right of the bullet item thingie. If the image is on your computer, you need to click "Use Full Editor" and then use the Browse and then Attach tools. It's not as simple as perhaps it could be...
  21. Careful, I might have to unleash a Carnac routine to demonstrate how bad it really can be, if you kids can't keep from squabbling.
  22. We should sit him against Verlander tonight, too.
  23. He called for four out of the zone? Must be some graduate-level Framing going on there.
  24. Let's send down Willians next, and ask Ehire if he wouldn't mind filling in at catcher so that both Mitch and Jason can have a much-needed day off.
