    He's 30 and you could look to him to provide that kind of veteran leadership. Weighing against that is he's not a rental. With him under team contract another year, it motivates against simply working him like a rented mule.

    I'll confess I had minimal expectations for Gallagher when he was acquired. I must have blurred him and Sam Armstrong together when looking at what we traded for. I took a look at the game logs and the 4-game stretch of good results might be the real thing, translating to something approximating an average major league arm at this stage in his still-young career. Could be a nice trade over time.

    It sure looked like Martin thought he had suddenly gotten an injection of steroids and was capable of heaving the ball all the way to the plate. Instead, off-line and over the cutoff man - bad combination that allowed the batter to reach second, if I reviewed the video correctly.
