  1. Yeah, the newspapers really buried the lede last off-season, or whenever it happened.
  2. Too late now for an early inning blowout, so I'd take that.
  3. So Topa's gonna be our 9th inning specialist du jour?
  4. Better than the Easter egg Chief's about to lay on us, that's for sure. 😁
  5. Guess he took it upon himself to correct the misperception a couple batters later?
  6. It comes down to talent evaluation, and under Falvey I wasn't impressed with the Twins in that regard. Dobnak was a low-stakes adventure into those waters and it didn't turn out. Zoll's track record has been tied to Falvey's of course so it's hard to say if they can hit more often than they miss if they gamble bigger contracts.
  7. Not literally, no. But b-r.com does provide splits for 2025. Bases empty: 5th most PA on the team. He batted .191 but with enough walks and XBH to OPS .791. Men on base: 10th on the team in PA, batted 227 with an .800 OPS. (Buxton suffered a similar fate - led the team in runnerless PA, 4th on the team in opportunities with runners.) There are plenty of criticisms to offer about Wallner's situational splits and I've made them, but it's also fair to note the difference in opportunity.
  8. Guess what, the microscopes come out anyway in October. You risk molding a team that will fall apart under the bright lights.
  9. It gets cold in October too, which is the month I really care about. Maybe even Game 7 in November these days.
  10. The other team pitched in the same conditions. Or do you think our batters are also uniquely affected by this typical early spring weather?
  11. It's made more noticeable because of the inept strategy the Twins batters use. Today Josh Bell tapped his helmet with two outs and the bases empty on a 2-2 pitch called a strike. Supposing that the third strike got overturned, what tiny fraction of a run on average would stand to be gained by extending this failed inning, versus the risk of losing half your game allotment of challenges that early? Success wouldn't even have translated directly into a baserunner. Wallner's already embarrassed himself twice with ABS challenges. The manager needs to lay out the ground rules for a batter challenge - it has to be with a 3-ball count, or a late inning with runners on, and so forth - or else just tell them don't ever challenge period and save wear and tear on their limited brain cells and reserve those calls for their catchers on defense.
  12. Matt Wallner is on a pace to hit 40.5 home runs. Who wants the over, or under? He is also on a pace to drive in 40.5 runs. Who wants the over, or under?
  13. "And just like that, Laweryson's ERA was back below 9."
  14. One thread leads to another down that slippery slope. Leads to an equivalence that may or may not be false. 😁
  15. Two outs, nobody on. You've got two strikes on you but only two balls? Sit down, shut up, and take it even if the umpire is jobbing you on that one pitch. There are better uses for that challenge.
  16. When the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown tells us along with all the other teams to, Gehrig be damned.
  17. Josh Bell getting his first Twins innings at first base, assuming weather cooperates.
