  1. Two players had to come off 40-man roster after the two FA signings. Helman, was deemed has one of them. Reviewing their roster, he seemed a logical choice.
  2. Agree, except I would be more willing to include Castro in trade for upgrade at 1B. He is one year from free agency, and you got to give something to get something.
  3. I think the chances you are wrong are pretty good. Really like Festa's upside. His stuff is nasty, and if he continues to improve his command, he's going to be really good,
  4. My thinking is its more important for the Twins to add offense. Not saying Cease isn't a top starting pitcher but like our current pitching staff a lot. I be much more interested in requiring Luis Arraez from San Diego. Who they are supposedly interested in moving. I would offer Vasquez and Castro to start the conversation. Would likely have to eat half of Vasquez salary. Plus, would be willing to add Julien to the deal if necessary. I think the fan base would welcome Arraez back with open arms. Count me as one of them. I know picking up half of Vasquez's salary increases the payroll marginally. But dumping Paddack;'s salary via another trade could offset that too. Plus, getting Arraez back will help ticket sales.
  5. It depends on the $$ amount and years of for a Jeffers extension. If it's reasonable I definitely would consider it. I have a higher opinion that Jeffers is a viable starting catcher. He will be 28 years old for upcoming season. He had a strong 1st half last year. I think he wore down in the 2nd half. He and the Twins coaching staff need to figure out how to improve his conditioning for this season. I, Also, would put Cartaya in the category of promising, young catcher too. Player development is rarely linear. He struggled last year with the bat, but he is young and still owns the abilities that made him a top prospect. Really, like the trade for the Twins. If they don't need to dump salary, then keeping Vazuez for one more year has a backup makes sense. If they do, then definitely need to try and move him. I would definitely like them to add decent right-handed bat OF and, or left-handed reliever. Austin Hays is the outfielder I like.
  6. My suspicion is that this information about future sale being close was leaked. Due to the Pohlads wanting to be no-shows at the upcoming Twins fest. They don't want to face the wrath of the fanbase. Whatever it takes to move forward works for me. I do hope the new ownership give Falvey and his team a chance going forward. I believe they are competent, and budget constraints have held them back from being more successful. I even think new ownership attraction partially to buying the Twins is that they believe Falvey and his team are competent. Making the need to recruit and staff a new organization on the baseball side unnecessary. Which will allow them to get off to quick start after taking over the Twins.
  7. No salary cap or revenue sharing I believe is the culprit. The player's union has always taken the position that hill they will die on is "no salary cap" period in contract negotiations. Can't blame them, player salaries have only continued to increase every year. The big market teams refuse to relinquish their big competitive in local TV revenues. League by-laws require a super majority (75% or better) to change league rules. Enough big market teams to vote down any changes that impact their advantages. Only the draft and caps on spending for foreign players give smaller markets a chance to compete by the league rules. It sucks being a fan of small market team. Only silver lining its very sweet when my team beats a big market team. Still waiting though for the Twins to take down damn Yankees.
  8. My perception of Rocco is he comes across has soft in dealing with his players. His comments after the season ended badly. Sounded like he is re-thinking his approach. I am in favor of him doing so. He needs to start with off-season communication with players. Be ready to go when spring training starts. We are going to get to work and don't plan on having a lot of time on the golf course. Better conditioning will reduce injuries and missed time playing in season too.
  9. Oh, I think Falvey and Rocco understand their jobs are at risk if there is new ownership. Their fools if they don't. They don't at least win the division or make the play-offs and win a series. Their toast, I think. It's my biggest hope for them being competitive this year. Being a season ticket holder, I want to see winning baseball for the coming season. Rocco needs to run tough spring training camp. Let the players know last years' collapse was unacceptable. Work hard on being sound in all facets of the game. Reducing mental mistakes and lack of hustle plays. Like the Wild coach did this season. The Wild had significant budget constraints and added very little in off-season. But so far, a third of into season they are doing very well with basically the same roster.
  10. I would offer the reason they are sitting back is because of the budget constraints the Pohlads have directed. Any move made will require the budget to stay flat. Tough position to be in when other teams and player agents know it. I wouldn't put the blame on Falvey and his team but squarely on the Pohlads. Agree with the hope new owners can bring back the excitement again.
  11. I had similar thought after reading about that trade. Vazquez spend a bunch of years in the Red Sox organization. They know him well. Agree the return will be minimal. I am in favor of doing it if salary saved is used to secure another asset that addresses (RH outfielder and LH relief pitcher) a weakness. Though will need to find at least viable backup catcher to Jeffers. Current roster options look weak at least for 2025.
  12. Totally agree about prospects of cutting of payroll. Going from 140 to 130 million. If the Pohlad's are selling and move on. Which they say they are. I can't believe any new owners will care one way another. But for me personally, has a long-time season ticket holder it does. Who wants to see if competitive team on the field next year it matters. It reduces their chances to win the central division more than benefit of cost saving. Being a long time Minnesota fan, nothing reduces ticket sales and TB viewership more than losing. Which reduce revenues that offset any cost saving from cutting payroll.
  13. Works for me too. Would add right-handed FA bat I am interested in is Austin Hays to sign. Our new batting coach should have inside knowledge of him. He was his coach in Baltimore. If he is in favor of signing him has a fit for Twins. He definitely should be a target for the Twins.
  14. I definitely would say no. Selling low on Duran. Definitely could see the Dodgers interest in him. Some interest in Castro too. Actually, of the 3 players, the catcher Feduccia would be the one I be most interested in. The Dodgers I would think would give him up for Castro. If they would take Vazquez and his salary too. I would do the deal. Assuming the Twins use the salary savings to spend on a FA signing to fill another need. Budget constraints The Twins FO is under force a deal like this, my doubt is the Dodgers would take Vazquez. They already have a decent backup catcher in Barnes. But if they want Castro, that is what it will take.
  15. Yankees, I suspect for one after losing out on Soto would have some interest. They would be willing to take on his salary. But I doubt they have depth or would give back much in talent to the Twins. The Twins could use the money from Correa's contract to sign other players or take on salary in another trade. But my take keeping Correa is still the best option at least for 2025 season. The big question is whether keeping Correa is more beneficial to selling the Twins or not. I think it is better for the sale if the good health reports on Correa are true.
  16. I believe it's his interest in doing it that is the main driver. It's his career so the Twins are respecting his wishes to consider it. If the Twins move Duran and he becomes the main closer. I am thinking that would impact his desires to be a starter.
  17. Excellent analysis, your summary was spot on. How he responds will be critical to the team's success next year. I don't see the Twins trading him. They would be selling low. Another question is what position he plays next year. Do you add to his plate, besides solving hitting woes, learning a new position? My thinking is the Twins need his bat more. Leave him at third, let the younger player Lee move to 2nd. last thought, I believe in his character, he will respond positively.
  18. Thanks for doing the research and writing this article. Found it very interesting and informative.
  19. Little chance on trading him to the Giants. He has full no-trade clause. Plus, after they backed on the deal with him two years ago due to injury concerns. I think both him and the Giants would have little interest in each other.
  20. Pablo Lopez pitching like a true Ace is my #1 key factor. Watching him pitch his stuff overall looks good. His sweeper and change up movement have been somewhat inconsistent. Which are being hit into the seats to much. Most importantly, he got to be more aggressive pitching inside to hitters. Make them respect he will come in on them. That will keep them from reaching his breaking pitches on the outside edge of the plate. Come on Pablo let's go!
  21. My thought is the biggest, single reason for the Yankees dominance over the years of the Twins is player payroll. They can afford much higher player payroll because their sources of revenue, especially local media are higher. The higher payroll allows them an edge in acquiring player talent. Which gives them the edge in winning in the long run.
  22. They are missing major hitters in Correa, Lewis, and lesser extend Kepler in their line-up. The remaining hitters clearly are not picking any of the slack. Varland looks completely over-whelmed today. I'm probably stating the obvious but cutting the pay roll by 30 million definitely impacted talent level. Which might have help mecate the impact of the injuries. This is starting to get ugly. I am kind questioning all this platooning too. Our pinch-hitting statistics are horrendous. Maybe try going with a more set line-up is worth a try.
  23. One thing I would add Santana is strong defensively at 1B. Over most the names you mentioned who are not.
  24. Boras has been doing what he does for years. My observation this year is the Dodgers signing the 2 Japanese super stars for over billion dollars. Really shook up the market. It caused a significant increase of costs of signing free agents that have followed. Some pretty marginal players are landing some hefty contracts. It again raises questions about the big gap of revenue between large market and small market team. The gap certainly seems to be expanding.
