  1. Lived in Baltmore during Rick's hayday. What a character!
  2. "Lord Byron"-- I love it. I like him so much I hope he leaves for a better team and gets a ring somewhere.
  3. "Keep the train moving forward"????? How about a different metaphor. Maybe "baby steps"?
  4. I see your point, But I submit: Chicago White Sox. We are closer to them than to the other Central teams.
  5. 5% of Twin's success next year, at most, will be a consequence of the manager. 95% will be a consequence of the payroll/personnel decisions. So hire whom you will, and focus on signing the best players (I wish).
  6. Twins were 11.5 games out of first; Cleveland was 11.0 games out. Who would have thought Detroit capable of such a collapse. Had the Twins not had a fire sale, and even strengthened themselves a bit, they could at least theortically been competitive in the race.
  7. At least I learned the term "dog's breakfast" reading this article.
  8. Residing in Phoenix puts them in the middle of a lot of Minnesota snowbirds (Minne-zona). BUT Their signings with the Suns (Durant, Beal), did not improve the team.
  9. Having just watched the World Series, I can only conclude: we could make the playoffs, but no way win the Series.
  10. This was the worst for me in all the years since 1960, when I first started following the Twins. The only thing close is the long string of first round playoff losses. Reminds me of 1964 Phillies (I lived outside Philly at the time), but over a longer time frame. I also remember 1967 as a two-game heartbreak. This will haunt the manager AND the players next year, so I feel a new manager and a fresh slate of players is needed. Look what Detroit did this year as the contrapositive.
  11. Rather than start a new thread, I will insert this here: Time to retool completely. Trade the existing high dollar contracts for up and coming talent (like Povich?). At least we won't be in last place as long as the White Sox are terrible. If we must build a team with a low budget, this is the only way forward.
  12. I remember him so well; my father was a graduate student at Purdue in that era so I was aware of him before he was drafted. Happy to see him on the Twins. Suspect by now he has had a total knee replacement.
  13. Nice to know, because the Yankees seem to own us.
  14. Great article regarding his backstory. Bold prediction: He's not ever going to medical school. 😄
  15. I was living in the Philadelphia suburbs in 1964. Phillies had a 6 1/2 game lead with 12 games left. And did not win the pennant. So I have no confidence yet, only hope, that we make the playoffs. Oh, and then WIN AT LEAST ONE GAME.
  16. Reading this at age 72, having been through it all since 1960, I slowly come to the realization that the Twins will not win another World Series in my lifetime.?
  17. To me, the failure of the "suits" was most evident in the Baltimore trade at the deadline. Four pitching prospects traded for one All Star reliever. We were supposed to make a run, which never happened. We faded. Baltimore meanwhile made a run of sorts, and finished above .500 without Perez, and brought in a bolus of young talent late in the year. I don't blame the trade. I just think it points out flawed thinking. They lost sight of the long term goal. (And I thought so at the time. This is not hindsight.)
  18. My hours are similar to yours, AND i live on the East Coast. So when I awoke in the middle of the night, rather than look at my phone, I asked Alexa and got the bad (but not unexpected) news.
  19. I have a baseball with multiple autgraphs--all Hall of Famers when they signed. Tony O signed it for me years ago--I told him he deserved to be in. So now it's official. BTW, Puckett would not sign it while an active player, and I never got a second chance
