  1. I like all three. I've always been intrigued by Stratton's spin rate and why he hadn't had more success. Last year he was pretty good, so maybe w/ better coaching his future is looking up. But I like a trade with either Sulser (BAL) or Trivino (OAK) because we could also add a SP to the trade Means (BAL) Bassitt or Montas (OAK)
  2. Great article Nick. Hope a lot from Kepler and Sano' but at this point they're a big ?. How well we do this season will depend how they perform along with how well FO fills our holes. Agree with your assessments of how to approach our necessity of who to trade.
  3. Thank you Francisco for an exciting ride! God bless you
  4. I like Arraez but he's expendable. Defensively he'll catch the ball if the ball is hit at him but he has no range. It pains me to see catchable balls bleed through the infield when he plays the infield. Arraez absolutely cannot play SS. We have a lot depth where he's ok defensively (we have Gordon, Lewis, Miranda, Martin and Larnach which all are better defensively) at positions which are very easy to find. His at bats are very entertaining so he still has some hype. As teams get to know him the OF will play him "in" because he has no pop, the INF will play him "back" because he's not fast. Though he'll gets some hits against poor defenses, good defenses will probably limit his hits. His value has dropped considerably from last year and next year it'll drop considerably more as his hype fades. Last year I advocated the Twins to seek out a great pitcher in trade for Arraez, this year we can still find a good trade but next year will be too late. All being said, should the Twins trade Arraez? the answer is a resounding yes, if they are are serious team. Will the Twins trade Arraez? I'd be very surprised if they did
  5. I totally disagree that all minor league don't move the needle. Minor league signings at this stage should be done to give depth and shore up weak areas which would move the needle. Like I stated "IMO this move didn't move the needle at all. Many of our OF prospects on the 40 man roster Larnach, Rooker and Kiriloff are better suited at 1B with also Garver able to play there. Arraez lack of range also makes him a good candidate there, some say he's too short to play there but Arraez is 1" taller than Astudillo. They should focus their attention on some one who is a MLB ready CF to sub Buxton, or at least compete for that role." We have a lot of depth at 1B and not only MLB ready but also in the lower minors. We've been hurting for a long time at MLB ready true CF to help out Buxton. Right now we don't have anyone who is ready to be placed on the active roster to be Buxton's steady backup (Celestino, Martin and even Lewis will be excellent candidates but as of right now cannot be depended on). So tell me how many true CFs have we signed to a minor league contract? That'd really move the needle, not another potential bat that can plug into 1B. I'm saying that their priorities are all wrong.

  7. Agree 100% with you Cody for all the reasons that you mentioned, well done. We have a great core and MLB ready prospects. Trading off our core for the pie in the sky doesn't guarantees us anything, it only multiplies our problem of hoarding prospect which forces us to let go undeveloped prospects for nothing that go on to prospers else where. We have many times gone from the worst to a very successful team. I don't see our 2021 failure as a player problem, we have a great and proven core with many good supportive players. We could easily plug our holes and compete this year. Prematurely jumping ship again would be another terrible mistake.
  8. Thanks Seth always enjoy your evaluations & insights. You love your work and it shows
  9. I think what also hurt Jeffers was that maybe Garver the lion's share of left-handed pitching. As long as Jeffers is with Twins that will be a slight problem
  10. It's ridiculous all the manipulations that goes on, this waiting game. It hurts everyone. It really hurts Lewis because I think he can't train at the Ft. Meyers until this is settled, and if the season is cancelled or greatly delayed that will further delay his being introduced to the MLB.
  11. Thank you again for helping to start this site!
  12. I always get excited over the international draft. There seems to be a lot of potential, I was surprised to hear that many don't make it to the majors.
  13. You don't make plans for a sub corner OF, 2B, 1B or 3B (those positions aren't critical and easily find subs) but if you are serious (teams like LAD) you had better have a darn good back up CF or SS especially if you think there'll be a long period of replacement. If you don't mind losing, yeah sure nothing matters. FO definitely shared your philosophy last season. If you keep doing the same mistakes don't expect to see different results.
  14. I think the Twin thought we had Superman when Buxton was coming up through the minors so they never gave a real thought about a sub. That lack of planning has really hurt the team. They had deceived themselves when they thought Cave was good enough. In his best years we lost 3 out 4 games when he played CF. We haven't had an active solution for so long. Celestino has been a future sub but because of them thrusting him there, I see it would delay his actual role and we shouldn't prematurely count on him this season. Regretfully I believe we need to go finally outside the organization to begin the season. Almora, Hamilton or someone else that can really play CF, could be a solution. Buxton had trouble his 1st few years but his defense kept him in the game also the confidence that was place in him to turn it around offensively. Maybe that all these young veteran need.
  15. To state my original text " he seemed to have an easier swing towards the end of the season which I'd like to see if it carries over to this season and get into even better shape , I'd even consider to extend him because he's so strong, durable and athletic." That is the future condition if he maintains that swing. The present fact is his trade worth is around zero. If he maintains that easy swing that he showed at the end of the season and be consistent, he'd be very valuable to the Twins. IMO we need to let him prove himself by the deadline if he can't then we can consider to trade him.
  16. the word "if" is conditional, if one condition exists produces one reaction if it doesn't, it produces a different one
  17. I wouldn't trade him before the deadline because #1 he wouldn't be worth anything #2 he seemed to have an easier swing towards the end of the season which I'd like to see if it carries over to this season and get into even better shape , I'd even consider to extend him because he's so strong, durable and athletic. I agree w/ Pat that he's too tense and over-swings if he can overcome that he'd be great.
  18. I'm all in for investing in the 2022 season. Punting is out of the question, we have 3 solid established, possible MVP candidates in Polanco, Buxton and Donaldson in 2022. Holes can be easily filled via trade and FA. Sacrificing 2022 in favor of hoarding redundant players & prospects in hope of our future prospects materialize seems fool hearty. I'd like our prospects eased into the lime-lite w/ confidence not thrust into the fire.
  19. There are many mindsets that this FO commits themselves to. These mindsets blinds them from seeing opportunities and needs they need to jump on. The mindset that's related to this article is that they like to sit and wait for the FA gets picked over and low ball who ever is left . Last year they scaped the bottom of the barrel for Shoemaker, Colume' and Happ ( they way over-paid him) and totally over-look the trade opportunities. IMO they need to evaluate their needs and who's under the radar to best fill those areas. They have get out of their mindset of hoarding redundant players and prospect while hurting at crucial areas. IMO trades are the best way to satisfy those needs. Trades you don't sit back and see what's left, you jump out and push trades you need. Trades should've been made before lock-down. After lock-down there'll be a mad scramble and the Twins will be left w/ no trades & scraping the bottom of the barrel again more likely w/ less available than last year. For us to ever progress in the post season, the FO needs to get out of their comfort zone and mindsets.
  20. As far as I'm concerned there is no risk. If he produces, he gets the big $ if not he doesn't. When he's on the field he impacts the team, everyone is working to keep him on the field. He wanted to stay in MN., how many big name players would say that? Besides great speed he has great instincts which should keep him at CF for the duration of the contract. Because of his problems with the wall, he has dialed back his aggressiveness, even with some digression due to age IMO he'll still be well above average. Buxton has prove to be resilient, getting better every year. There's risk for any player to get in an accident (on or off the field) that they never really come back from. If MLB team take this into consideration there'd be zero contracts. Almost every big name player ever consider an incentive contract even if there is doubt about their health. We are blessed to have him for any amount of time he can give us.
  21. I don't consider Martin as a redundant player. Martin has great value as a true super utility player, IMO you can't enough players that play both CF &SS (areas where we've been weak). Arraez is a redundant player although he has good value on the market, he has little value to us as a starter or as utility player. Arraez's value will continue to drop, longer we keep him so quicker we trade him the better. Miranda, Lewis or Martin would be of more value as utility and they have a much higher ceiling.
  22. I liked your article, you always give informative results. Not to split hairs but I'd switch Larnach and Gordon's grades. Yet my expectation of Larnach was higher than Gordon's so that might've made a difference because of level disappointment. Besides being disappointed with Larnach's hitting and glove, his arm leaves something to be desired. I wonder if he could be a better candidate at 1B. That said, I still think Larnach has a lot of hitting potential.
  23. I see you left out the main core which will produce when healthy. I believe Polanco should be healthy the whole season. The ones that you mentioned are the ones we have some doubt yet. I really liked Sano's swing at the end of the season. He wasn't trying to over-swing, just a nice easy swing. Hope he continues that swing through his career, he could be awesome. We'll have to see if Miranda's new found success in AAA will translate well and maintain it in the MLB. We all know that Kiriloff has the potential to become a great hitter he just needs time in the MLB and stay healthy. Larnauch was rushed too soon into the MLB which set him back a little, still I really like him as a hitter. Although Jeffers isn't in the same class as those above but once he better figures out MLB pitching, he'll be pretty good hitting catcher. That leaves Kepler. To me he has the biggest doubt. I love his glove and has a pretty good eye but he has trouble adapting to the dead ball Even with him pulling the ball he can't hit that many HRs, that translate into outs. If he can't adapt, we should trade him. A place like CO, where he could translate those outs back into HRs and we can sell him thus for Marquez. On paper we look pretty good.
  24. IMO a good long relief corps is the key for success in both the rotation and high leverage short relief. Last year long relief was very poorly managed, which I believe was one of the main reason why we did so poorly. This season, it has been suggested that we'll go with a piggy-back system using openers and long relief. We'll need a lot of good long relief arms, consisting of not quite SPs that are veterans & rotating AAAA. It'll be a good way to see what we have, we'll play who's hot. There'll be some we'll keep and others we'll dump. It'll be very interesting
  25. I was asking Ted what he meant by "and there’s a man in charge that once led a strong rotation". You are saying that man is Wes Johnson, how do you know that's what Ted meant? If he indeed meant Wes Johnson, I have all confidence in him to get the most out of his pitchers. My definition of a strong rotation is majority of SPs that are able to go at least 5 innings on a regular basis and give us an opportunity to win the game, throughout a full season. A strong rotation isn't so greatly dependent on the BP to bail them out. I thought I conveyed that in my text. It has nothing to do with $. There are pitchers out there making a lot of $ which I don't consider strong pitchers. I don't care about big names either that why I'm not in favor of signing big name FA pitchers. I liked the '19 rotation very much and they could've led us well into the post season, had the BP not blew up midway. The rotation was totally spent because it wasn't that strong. 2020 was short season so for me I don't really count that year as indicator of a success pitcher as a strong pitcher. Those pitchers would have to prove to me in a full 2021 if in fact they are strong pitchers. To me a successful pitcher doesn't mean a strong pitcher. I don't like you accusing me of spreading "false narratives" just because my definition of a strong rotation is different than yours. I have no agenda to push
