  1. I’m not sold on the roster. Our “Superstars “ have injury issues, and struggle to get to 100 games, and they are past their prime. Many of our “can’t miss” prospects have shown to be pretty ordinary or injury prone. I think the Polhad’s want out because of the reckoning coming to MLB. The gravy train of RSN’s has come to a screeching halt, and streaming will not generate nearly the revenue. There will need to be a real Cap/Floor system implemented and soon if teams not in big markets are to remain competitive. All of this is up in the air, and if the Pohlad’s thought MLB had a good plan going forward, they wouldn’t be looking to sell.
  2. Andy Macphail should get some folks together and buy the team.
  3. I expect Castro, Santana, Kepler, Farmer, Margot,Vasquez? to be gone. And three or four relievers to be (or should be) gone. That leaves us with needs at 1b,a consistent 2B who can play at a MLB level on both sides of the ball, a 1b at least as good as Santana, a RF better than Kepler, an Allstar utility guy and a handful of relievers. Given the refusal to spend, I’m not expecting many of these needs to be met. The window is closed.
  4. “The Twins need to clear Vázquez's salary so that they can address other needs on their roster, and they need to turn away from the plodding, pull-and-lift, defensively limited player profile they've clung to for the last few years.” While both of these things are true, I don’t see the Twin’s doing the second one. I doubt they do the first one.
  5. Not to mention the atrocities committed on the base paths. This all comes down to a lack of fundamentals. This coaching staff simply doesn’t value it.
  6. November 8, 2023- Twins confirm payroll reduction is coming in 2024. That’s the key date.
  7. I suspect all the players up in the air will be traded or DFA’d. Payroll will be closer to $100M. Maybe…
  8. Well, let’s see, we have a high draft pick who has never lived up to expectations- check. He is injured more than half the time-check. Seems to be a nice guy-check. Given the Twins history, he’s due for a 5-8 year extension at top dollar.
  9. I’m guessing he’s getting out of baseball unless he can land a job in a major market. It’s going to be a very rocky time for all but a handful of teams the next 5 years.
  10. If they want someone inexperienced or willing to do exactly as they are told, it doesn’t matter who it is. We’ve seen the results already!
  11. It sounds like OP (and FO) want someone just like Popkins? Then what’s the point?
  12. As soon as they go to the electronic strike zone, framing is dead. Seems like a bad time to put all your eggs in that basket. Also, zero interest in two catchers that can’t hit.
  13. “Given that the team also faces severe financial constraints this winter, first figures to be open.” You’re referring to a TV deal? Pretty sure they’ve known about this for over a year. To use that as an excuse to cut another $30M or not spend beyond this year’s payroll is BS.
  14. The actual chances of making playoffs is probably 85%. In reality, it feels more like 50%.
  15. “However, it was a stern reminder that the team has shown a bit of habitual give-up this year, not necessarily from a lack of character or toughness or culture or even talent, but perhaps as an unfortunate characteristic.” Disagree. It’s the culture.
  16. They are desperate enough. No way they’ll pay though.
  17. Rocco’s team is very iffy on fundamentals and hustle. Almost no one runs out a ground ball.
  18. For all the people who down voted my sarcastic, “We still have Dobnak” comments, I’d like some upvotes now!
  19. Turns out these guys were too expensive. You needed to write a “Five players below everyone the Twin’s probably will target” article.
  20. We should hang onto a guy indefinitely despite his awful actual numbers and contributions, because his *expected* numbers suggest he’s “unlucky”? Makes about as much sense.
  21. He is basically Michael A. Taylor. Buxton’s stats are slightly better, but not dramatically so, and Taylor’s come at a much smaller cost. It’s too bad, but there it is.
  22. You keep running him out there. Can’t let recency bias color the metrics.
