  1. Why? Garlick missed a fly ball that bounced off the top of the wall for a gift home run and then Duran struck out the next guy. Defense counts.
  2. That fly ball was a perfect example of why a really good outfield is important. Garlick should have caught that one.
  3. Ok. We just disagree on this. No problem. Manfred is going to do what he wants anyways.
  4. We used extreme shifts in the 1960s (even going to four outfielders or five infielders as the situation dictated) in all of grade school, VFW, high school, and legion ball. It is more common now but not new in any sense. I oppose banning the shift and unlike some others I do appreciate an out recorded on a hard hit ball just as broken bat hits are a part of the game. There are plenty of changes that can be made if people want changes to increase offense. Ball 3 is a walk and strike 4 and you are out. That would cause an increase in offense. If people want the game to have more tempo, allow the umpires to enforce the current rules that dictate a player needs to be ready to hit and the pitcher needs to pitch. Many of the changes just increase the time (challenges for example). I do think that electronic signals between pitcher and catcher speed up the game and is a positive change. It disrupts nothing.
  5. The Twins should have a decent idea of what their club is like by June 1.
  6. How about if the Twins tried to overwhelm Pittsburgh for Reynolds, who still has four more seasons of control?
  7. Pain management is very individual. A person may have pain or an uncomfortable feeling but there may not be anything wrong physically. On the other hand, one can have a fairly significant injury and ignore the pain. Kirilloff will need to learn what he can manage if it is indeed true that there is nothing wrong with his wrist even as he feels quite uncomfortable swinging a bat. Swinging a bat, after all, is his occupation. I hope he can figure it out quickly because he does have a beautiful swing.
  8. All things considered, the start has been ok. The Twins entered Game 1 weaker at C, 1B, 3B, LF, DH, SP, and RP weaker than they entered Game 1 last season. Last year the team crumpled. This year has just begun and the SP has been pretty good. The lineup is a little out of sorts but we can wait until June to make a more thorough judgment. We need to remember that the AL Central is no longer as pathetic as it was in 2019 and 2020. So, let's see how the next six weeks play out for the Twins.
  9. I hope so. It's not that i feel sorry for Derek or anything. He is a professional athlete and knows the routines. We all knew DR was not going to stick for long but with 16 active pitchers and a day off, it was unnecessary to use him the way the game unfolded. Did the Twins just decide the game was over? Maybe, maybe not. The vibe is off.
  10. The analytics game and launch angle are not Miguel's friend. If only he could keep his bat level through the zone .... Vladdy Jr. strikes out a ton but his bat is level through the zone and he crushes more than he misses because of the mathematics of a level versus launch angle swing. Jorge Polanco may need some launch angle to hit a long ball but Sano only needs to hit the ball for it to disappear.
  11. Poor roster management as well as a somewhat disrespectful tactic by Twins. We all knew Rodriguez was going to be DFA'ed the minute Baldelli sent him out for a fourth inning against the Dodgers despite the crowd of relievers huddled in the bullpen. I know many people want 45 person squads with 28-30 active at a time but I believe the game requires more attention and management skill with 25 person active rosters and 15 day IL with minimum limits on days before sending down or being recalled. The PA missed some really simple player friendly deals in this last CBA.
  12. Well, how to improve? Trade for Bryan Reynolds.
  13. It's early. The FO has put their team on the field and have their other choices at AAA and AA. Money doesn't play any part in the plan but we shall see how the next few months go for this team and how the plan plays.
  14. April is the cruelest month. Right? It is pretty early to be thinking about whether Pohlad tosses the wunderkids or there is a vast selloff. Trades can happen at any time, as we found out in the last month. Management will want to see the light of day on June 1 at the earliest before they make the next plan.
  15. Rodriguez was not set up to pitch more than 3 innings and the full assortment of relief pitchers dictates a little action for a couple of others eager to pitch in the beautiful April weather; that was brutal leaving him go past his limit. No idea how the staff doesn't notice a difference in swings from Kirilloff or why the communication was non-existent.
  16. I'm still a fan of Sano but it would seem like a different approach is possible, although I would exclaim also that this could be very difficult.
  17. I'm not a fan of any team using a non pitcher in an MLB game. No matter the circumstances it reeks of unprofessional competition. There are pitchers who can "take one for the team"/pitch the last few innings. I wish the Giants had scored 50 runs against the Padres and will always hope that the non pitcher doesn't get a single out.
  18. The PA should have demanded that players brought up to the major leagues received 15 days minimum pay and service whether the were DFA'ed or not. The manipulation of pitchers does nothing for the players or game. MLB went to 28 person rosters and teams have 16 pitchers yet a couple of teams are using fielders to throw in the games. The rules need to force managers into managing the game using 25 players. It is a definite turn for the worse in baseball.
  19. I have been watching the Wichita games and agree with the assessments that suggest shortstop is a stretch for Martin. An athletic outfielder who can have a high on base percentage is valuable. It is early but Martin looks really uncomfortable at shortstop.
  20. Time to trade for Bryan Reynolds.
  21. The absurdity of the game was everyone running for cover with lightning striking all around as the field crew dutifully took the field and struggled to cover the playing surface. They should have just said that the field will be covered when the lightning stops.
  22. Real lucky there were not any apparent injuries.
  23. This game should have been suspended in the 5th or 6th inning. These are not reasonable conditions to play baseball. It is April, not the World Series.
