I think to be successful, teams need several to try to fill this role. Amongst Rogers, Duffey, Colome, Robles, Stashak, Alcala, the Twins look to have some decent options.
I still expect Arráez is the opening day LF and Kirilloff won’t make the opening day roster. I am hoping they choose to go with 4 bench players, Cave and Jeffers look to be locks, which would leave room for one of the 3 mentioned above, or Drew Maggi?? And then one other, Rooker??
It seems to be all about approach. Instead of trying to be Mike Trout, he should have been trying to be more like Ricky Henderson. I hope I am wrong, but I don’t see him putting it all together.
Given The likelihood that Donaldson and Simmons are going to need multiple games off, I will be surprised if a Gordon or Riddle type backup is not on opening day 26 man
Spring training and injuries might decide things, but the Twins may consider Arraez, Cave, Garlick, Broxton and maybe even Kirilloff as better left field options.
Rooker does seem to appear to be the most major league ready of the prospects. The problem is with the signing of Cruz, he would have to make the roster as the everyday left fielder or as one of the 4 bench players. Given his lack of defensive abilities, I don’t see him making the opening day 25.
Could Arraez be the opening day left fielder and lead off batter? And then stay out there. Then Austidillo can be left off for more of an utility infielder
What I don’t get is how Marwin, who is twice the player that this guy ever will be, is vilified by most posters, and this guy is seen as a legitimate backup.
I go back and forth on bringing Cruz back. On one hand he was the Twins best hitter the last two years and based on that he definitely would be worth another reasonable, 1 year deal. On the other hand, maybe it is time to see if Rooker, who would likely be the odd man out, is ready for the bigs.
No to both. Spending money for the sake spending money is not a very good strategy. Rosenthal is not helping when he is on the DL. Would not offer Hand two years. And I don’t understand the fascination with Yates
I don’t quite understand the venom towards Marwin on this site. I get 2020 was a down year and maybe he is cooked, but before that was pretty decent as a super utility guy. Keke had a down 2020 as well and probably not the career Marwin has had, but yet it seems most are all in favor of signing him.
Some interesting suggestions but most are either unproven, not Twins property (Baez) or horrible in the field (Austudillo and Rooker), probably not what they should be looking for in super utility spot
