If the real,honest goal is to be competitive again in 2022, then you only trade Berrios if it makes the team better now (meaning 2022). The deal would have to be real sweet. If this is not the case...then all of us keyboard GM's will continue to have a field day with potential trades! Heard yesterday Braves may be interested in Kepler. Will anyone be willing to take the 4 or 5 useless arms we need to jettison? Talk of trading Buxton (IMO) should just stop. The best trade for him is re-signing him.

That! If the offer isn't good enough, hang on and see what happens next. Everything is a risk...especially pitching prospects/suspects. Only fly in this ointment is all signs point to him not wanting to stay.

I think we all agree that trading just for the sake of trading is not very productive. So we have to know what the FO plan is going forward. As of now, they are telling us they want to be in the hunt next season. If we take them at their word, you only trade Berrios if it makes the team better next year. Problem is he probably won't re-sign here if we wait. So I guess you must take the very best offer. Trading Buxton is not a good idea...especially now, since they really don't have to. you do everything you can to keep him. Thats one trade I would not make. Anyone else....if it makes the team better, do it. For some its addition by subtraction (any of the pathetic pitchers who have stunk the place out this year) For others, like Cave and Simmons, get what you can and smile. I'd hand on to Kepler unless the deal is too good to not make. Ditto Donaldson. Give him another year to hopefully be in the same lineup as Buxton for more than a week or two. I'd like to see that.

TWins FO says they want to be competitive again in 2022, so they won't give Berrios away for low minor league prospects. Berrios has sort of 'said' he won't mind being traded, so Twins need to pull the trigger. But they will wait till the last minute to get the best possible return. I think it will happen. Meanwhile, there are other pitching scraps that need to go. And Simmons and Cave must go too. I would go into overdrive to get Buxton signed to an extension. Just do it Twins. I think Donaldson stays .

7 HR's; 4 in one inning; nearly coming back from 10-0 and 13-6 deficits; and scoring 14 runs....and we still lost by 3 runs, thanks to yet a third straight 9th inning meltdown. My kingdom for some pitching! Twins pitching, especially the bullpen is a complete embarrassment. And today the starter was abysmal. Inexcusable loss. But this is getting commonplace. What a mess.

Headline makers on notice: Can we see: Twins win 12-11 after falling behind by 10? Or--Twins erase 10 run deficit but still lose in extra innings 11-10. Or Sano cracks 3 solo HR's but fans in the 10th with tying run on base to end game.

we've all said it...it will be a very long final 2 months to endure this team that clearly has nowhere to go anymore. This is rich. Sano pounds one out when its 10-0 bad guys. Hit 'em when they count Sano. Too much to ask?

I'm surprised more didn't say this. Even though Sano shouldn't have run, the out would have easily been made at 1st base and we still have a runner on 2nd with 1 out...right? The optics weren't good but the result was the same. Twins couldn't get the ball out of the infield. Sano's biggest failures are with his bat. Once in awhile he has a big game...followed by 10's of little, useless games. He has yet to learn game situations that do not call for the big windmill, uppercut swing. Of the big whiffers, like Rob Deer, Chris Davis, Mark Reynolds (all hit lots of HR's but struck out far too many times) Sano may be the worst. Davis is a close 2nd in recent years. Twins are wasting a roster spot hoping that one day he'll straighten out.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the comic relief here tonite! The Twins totally peed this one away. Pathetic. They would depress a hyena.

Do we have to put up with Sano for 2 more months? He strikes out in key spots with such regularity it just screams 'why', 'why'? Garver probably has a broken wrist. Just keeps getting better and better this year. Tigers take the lead. Twins pen is so incredibly awful. Robles is just as bad as Alcala. Twins missed their chance in the 10th. Sigh.

I'd love to see what kind of lineup we would have with a healthy Buxton and a productive Donaldson. Never really got to see much of that this year (to date) I wouldn't be so quick to jettison Donaldson after only one year, when everyone did not live up to expectations. I'd trade Sano first....except who would ever take him? Simmons should definitely be gone. He has added virtually nothing that can't be replaced internally. Colome was a bust. Taylor could yield something worthwhile. If you offoad Berrios, you eliminate one fairly realiable arm in the rotation. Would they get at least equal value at less cost? Tricky. (but I think he wants to leave anyway, so that point could be moot. Pineda ---love to be able to keep him and just consider 2021 as an off year, Not a trend downward. But he probably will be dealt. Kepler is also a tough one. Just when we all are finally ready to cast him adrift, he turns into 'Kepler' again. The guy could be so valuable...if he would only be consistent. Rooker is getting a second chance because of all the injuries. Looking forward to seeing if he can do it. Larnach has sort of topped out and hasn't been very good in July. Refsnyder is a journeyman who could fill Cave's place as a utility player. Cave gives us practically nothing. Finally, please send Alcala down, anywhere, if it hasn't happened yet. You can't stay on a major league roster with a consistent ERA of over 10.00.

You're only allowed one or two real bad decisions when trying to build a ballclub. If the Twins whiff on this one, they will have their fanbase riled up and thats not a good optic given that this year's team could lose 90-100 games. Letting the face of the 'revitalized' team walk is no way to build a winner. Just about everything that has happened to the 2021 Twins has been bad. They never got to field their dream lineup. The pitching staff totally fell apart. Most the hitters were experiencing their worst career year...until a couple of them have tried to salvage their season. And the injuries this year have been brutal. If they can't figure out how to keep one of the best talents in the game....what good will come of it?

Wonder is Simmons can get down to .200 before he is sent packiing?

our 4 and 5 hitters are averaging around .180 and have fanned 4 of their 8 times up. Folks say they no longer care about wins. No problem. There won't be many.

He is throwing batting practice. His last 15 appearances his ERA is nearly 10 00. Why isn;t he in St. Paul? This is not a small sample size. He can't get major league hitters out. Pretty much no one in our pen can actually

This just in. Alcala has become totally worthless. He can't get anyone out anymore when it counts. Our pen is bad and he is really bad.

I summarily and forever abhor the notion of tanking for draft picks. If that were the motive, every stadium of teams that are doing it should be empty. Or all tickets should be free for anyone crazy enough to watch. Getting 'penalized' for winning in pro sports is so wrong-headed, it should be outlawed by totally changing the way the draft works. This is one soapbox I won't climb down from.

Somehow it just seemed right that Sano ended the game with a 'k', Anyone here think otherwise? I think with Cruz gone, Sano is going to be even more lost than he has been so far. If any team even made a small offer for him, Twins should jump on it....but thats very unlikely. (but he probably has Tampa Bay on his speed dial!!!) The number of Twins who are injured, or away is frightening. So much of their talent isn't available. Kirilloff and Garlick are done for the year. Refsnyder and Buxton aren't going to be rushed back. Rooker breaks up a no-hitter and this guy has had trouble making contact in most all his AB's with the Twins (small sample size though) Celestino can't hit at all. And so on.... Who else will be gone? Simmons has never fit in. If he goes, he won't be missed. Donaldson? Who knows? The pitchers? Will we get value for them? Kepler? I think he stays. Ditto Polanco. And Garver.

Twins playing with all the passion and enthusiasm of someone who has been shot up with novocaine. Its going to be a long 10 weeks. I see them finishing only ahead of Baltimore in the AL:.

The logic of the trade is irrebuttable. The emotion is another matter and so as the Bangles song goes, I may see things In A Different Light. This in no way makes my observation 'right' and everyone elses wrong. Here's the perspective from a septuagenarian t. Part of the fun of watching and attending ballgames is to see your favorite players...not just the 'uniforms' (which is getting way too common anymore) When I watched the Expos, I looked forward to seeing Rusty (le grand orange); Mack Jones; later Carter, Dawson, Pedro Martinez, later Vlad Sr. The Orioles, it was Brooks, Frank, Cal, Eddie, Palmer..these are guys that kept my interest high. There were really only 2 players I didn't want to see go...Cruz and Buxton. I don't care about the rest at all. Those 2 guys made watching the Twins enjoyable. Has nothing to do with the payroll, the future, the logic....just the fun of watching baseball...which diminishes a bit every year because of the 'business' of the game. Trading Cruz (which I accept probably had to happen....but I wonder if the guys had played better in the 1st half, whether this would have even been necessary) ripped the heart and soul out of the team. You can laugh and say 'so what', but I guarantee most the guys really didn't want to play last night and it showed. When you lose your best hitter, no matter the age or the circumstances, you do lose something. If the 2 young arms we got make up 2/5 of a successful starting rotation in 2022, it will be a huge win for sure. The cautionary tale is....how realistic really is that? Pitching prospects come and go. A few make the grade and many more don't. Thats not a reason to not make trades of course, Just realism. For those who say 2 1/2 more months of Cruz in the lineup won't make a spec of difference this year...hard to argue from the standings perspective. But from a purely emotional, I love my favorite players viewpoint, the Twins will be less fun to watch and the final 10 weeks will surely be a total throwaway. This will be moreso if the young guys we want to make up the core in coming years are injured...as many of them are. This trade may make the Twins better someday. Maybe not. No one really knows. Games and pennants aren't won on paper. When you are young with lots of life ahead of you, you can afford to experiment, casting aside season after season in search of the holy grail. When you're older, you view the game differently. Again, no one is 'right' or 'wrong' in their viewpoints. I will miss Cruz. His teammates will miss him more. these are human beings being moved around and thats never easy. The fans will miss him, despite this miserable season...none of which was on his shoulders. So my 'grade' is simply 'sad'. Sad, that it had to happen. And I wish the two young pitchers well. they have huge shoes to fill and much will be expected of them. OK I've had my say. Like all unpleasant trades, I'll get over it....probably.

Inevitable day. No matter. It sucks to lose Cruz. I hate the Rays. I hope everyone's optimism on the 2 pitchers is justified. If so, its a good trade. You could tell the Twins were going thru the motions tonight. Their heart clearly wasn't on the field as they sleepwalked thru a 3-2 loss to the Angels. I seriously doubt they will try and re-sign him next season. If they want to give the young guys a chance, why sign a near 42 year old DH? It always hurts to lose a popular and productive player. When TB comes to Minnesota in a couple weeks, I hope Cruz hits a ton of HR's and the fans give him a large ovation.

I can see trading Berrios and Rogers now. Keep Buxton. If they trade the two pitchers now, they will get fleeced. But I agree with the majority here. Berrios probably wants out. Not so sure Buxton does. While pitching is our weakness, the problem is trading two of our supposed 'best ones' might not help the team at all. Pitching prospects litter the landscape and many don't make it. But I suppose they have to try.

It doesn't help that Rogers right now is in one of his awful periods. When he goes bad, he is REALLY bad. And there is nobody to bail him out. it really bugs me....pitchers who slow the game down to a crawl. Rarely are they ever effective. Go after the hitter. Keep your 'd' alert. Twins pitchers did neither tonite.

I started watching in the bottom of the 7th....seemingly about 2 hours ago. The game ground to a halt, Insufferable. Twins have no pitching at all. None. There isn't one reliever who can get the job done. They diddled around...took about 1 minute between pitches, couldn't throw strikes, and then when they did, the 1st place team tore them apart. This game was a horror show exposing all the warts. Just no fun at all watching this team.
