  1. uh-oh..storm clouds brewing. Can they possibly wiggle out? YESSSSSSSSS!
  2. seems like all the bad stuff that has happened to the Twins over the years has been transferred to Toronto this series!! So far. Vlad is going to be real ticked when he comes up again.
  3. The DP (which we all hate) got in a run, which in this game might be real big. If I'm Berrios Im on the phone a la Denis Lemieux in Slapshot saying....'trade me right @#$%ing now'!!
  4. if this backfires on Toronto, that move will live in the infamy hall of shame along with Showalters gaffe against the Jays in the one and done playoff game a few years ago with the Orioles..
  5. my jaw has dropped to the floor. Why in the heck does he pull Berios? Low pitch count, in control..wow. We have criticized Rocco 10 ways to Mars for his moves, but this one defies some sort of logic. (unless the manager knows something) But wow... come on Twins, make him pay.
  6. Correa's spectacular play may have saved the game. Jays score there and suddenly they have momentum and there was plenty of time left. He was also one of the stars of the day. So the two guys who sat out the last 10 days of the season, returned and made massive contributions. Thats what has been missing from Twins post seasons over the past 2 decades. And the bullpen. They all did their jobs. All the boxes checked. Now, they have to go out and do it again for it to be truly meaningful in 2023
  7. its amazing that just one win (after 19 years) can raise the collective spirits of an entire community. The crowd yesterday was incredible, just waiting to finally bust out!
  8. ON the way up, Berrios was a huge gate attraction in Rochester. People stayed in their seats while he was pitching. Biggest issue with him was when the other guys started to get to him, he crumbled quickly. Like flipping a switch, he went from unhittable to batting practice pitcher. Still, I worry that he might toss one of his real good games today. Don't want this series to go to a game 3. Get the Jays out and move on.
  9. Wish the Red Wings were still with the Twins, but understand why they are not sadly for us. Being a farm lackey for the Gnats makes for painful summers. Wings most recent parent teams could square off for the AL Pennant this year. What a hoot
  10. Let the games begin! For me I have my two favorite teams in the hunt and I guess what I'd like is for them to square off in the ALCS...so I know one will be in the World Series. ITs 'love-hate'..hate to see either lose. I went to Toronto earlier in the year to see Gausman pitch against his ex-team the Orioles. On that day, the O's got the best of him. Not by a lot, but he didn't beat them. Jays hitting has been rejuvenated of late so Pablo has to be 'on'. Would like to see a major crowd today too. Here in the East, its 'hot'...mid 80's. Rare for this time of year. I think the Twins got it 100% right with their roster. Hope nobody gets injured. (I still haven't come down from the Bills beatdown of the Dolphins so I'd like to stay in party mode today!!)
  11. Did not have any red text. And if that was all 'sarcasm' that was awful. Particularly when the ump is actually not very good. Not real impressed.
  12. I think I would disagree with the above comment. I believe everyone wants Buck to succeed, but most are acutely aware that he is probably chronically injured. His track record is not good at all. He is always one swing, one slide, one dive...one anything from being unable to play. And over the past 2 years, his healing time is very slow. This is not negativity on Buck, Its reality that his body is telling him its a no go. I believe he REALLY wants to play. And I'm betting in his quiet hours he is almost afraid to go out there for fear of doing more damage somewhere. This season he wasn't much help. Thats what frustrates all of us, including him I'm sure. We learned he isn't a successful DH, while being injured in some capacity. Gallo is not a better alternative offensively. In a short series (and riding a ridiculous 18 game losing streak) you can't trust a guy who strikes out half his AB's. You surely wouldn't want him pinch hitting with the game on the line....would you? Most here don't like Luplow. Is he more reliable than Buck or Joey? Stevenson? Perhaps. (I didn't think he was eligible...when did that change?) In the end, Buxton is a VERY sad story. Maybe he has one more kick at the can in 2024. Maybe not. But most Twins fans are pulling for him.
  13. whats the issue in Miami? I have totally missed that drama. Anyone care to elaborate for me?
  14. Cuzzi's comments border on getting fired material. I can't believe he said those things. Umps have to be non-biased...period. What he said shows he isn't. Thats just plain wrong. A.H. is a terrible ump too. His recent strike 3 to the Phillies this week was deplorable. How can some of these guys keep their jobs. But Cuzzi is over the top disgusting. MLB had better keep him away from Twins games.
  15. i know the game was meaningless, but it wasn't fun getting beat by an 8th inning HR from a 110 loss team. That one was on Maeda. I know its nit-picking but I want the Twins to be sharp as hell going into the playoffs. So they go from the worst team in baseball to the worst team in the NL. Whoever plays, I want them to play hard and win these 3 games. they have to 'feel' like winners all the way if they want to stop that ridiculous post season losing streak.
  16. Buck is probably still hurt. And he might be chronically hurt which could spell an end to his career. As he is now, he has limited value. Unless he is able to take a year off (and even that doesn't seem to be able to fix all his issues) I don't think he has a career anymore. What playing MLB requires seems to be more than his body will ever allow anymore. Its not just one thing...its everything. To think that he will be able to hit the way he used to is folly. I'd love to be wrong about all of this, but the record shows he's too fragile to adequately perform at a level that both he and the team wants. Is Gallo a better option for that 'last spot'? Hardly. As a pinch hitter he is useless. Maybe a defensive replacement late, where no AB;s are needed. short series...you can't have a guy who strikes out as much as he does.
  17. interesting..5 of the 9 hitters in the lineup are hitting in the .250's. I imagine its maybe a bit hard to get up for a game against a team looking at possibly its 110th loss of the season and you have already clinched 1st place.
  18. funny that all of us have been very disappointed in Joey Gallo and his enormous k ratio which borders on 1 every 2 official ABs. But what also surprises me is that Julien has a very poor k-ratio too, Good news for him is he walks a ton. But he does strike out way too much when he isn't walking.n And Twins have a few others whose k ratios are under 1 every 3 offical AB's. Somewhere Sano is enjoying a good meal and getting a chuckle! Bottom line though..Twins are going to the playoffs. And they could be real competitive.
  19. Playing the A's and Rockies this week is like Twins playing spring training games! Not complaining at all. I'd like to see them win them all and have the players amped up bigtime for the next challenge of breaking that 18 game post season losing streak. But who would have imagined the Twins playing the final week against 2 teams that have lost over 100 games. Also, interesting that last year beginning of Sept, Twins and Guards were neck and neck...and within 3 weeks Twins were a billion games behind. This year same scenario except its the Guards that have fallen completely apart. (In fact Detroit is now in 2nd place!) A total reversal of fortunes! I hope CC and Lewis are ready to go next week. If so, Twins should be in very good shape. Still a 3 game series is very dangerous.
  20. might not be a lot here who remember (fondly I might add) that all world series games were played during the day for decades. And we all looked forward to it. Sometimes we hid our transistors in our desks, or under them...and sometimes we had teachers who were huge baseball fans who allowed us to listen for awhile. There were no playoffs back then, so this was truly a special occasion. I remember I was between school and home when Maz hit 'that' HR in 1960. I also remember the Gillette parrot commercials superimposed on the TV screen between innings. It was a ton of fun. Things are totally different now. Since the 1970's playoffs and night baseball began to rule the roost. Suddenly people wondered how they could ever have played those games during the day. But again since it was just the world series, the stadiums were packed and we all managed somehow! It was a different time and we all adapted to the changes. I can't imagine a WS game played during the day anymore. But I loved it back then. Oh yeah, and there was this Don Larsen perfect game thingy too!!
  21. Its really good to have a couple of decent starters available in the pen in case our game starter can't go 5 innings. Being able to throw a Maeda or Ober in there for more than 1 inning really saves the regular bullpen pitchers. No ghost runners in playoffs so burning pitchers for one inning or less can be dangerous if games are long or pitch count gets unwieldy . I'm still hoping Lewis can play in round one. Correa too.
  22. I think its safe to say now, that the Lopez-Arraez trade has worked out well for both teams...perhaps even better than anyone imagined. Lopez has emerged as the Twins best starter, after a slow start and has performed the way the Twins had hoped. Arraez will probably win the NL batting title and his team may get the final WC. Would have to say, that after all the debating and teeth gnashing, both sides should be pretty pleased.
  23. looks like Texas may be the one to catch. Houston is fading fast but Twins know what its like to be swept by KC this season...despite their overall record. So far 2 teams have already lost over 100. Two more may join those two. One team has 100 wins so far. Perhaps 3 more could join that team.
  24. Last season Twins played meaningless games the final week. This season the Twins will be playing meaningless games the final week. But what a difference a year makes!!!
  25. typical game and result immediately following a clinching game. Twins went thru the motions all except their pitchers. Got that one out their system, against a VERY poor team. Now, go out there and play hard in the final week and get tuned up for the playoffs. While they could still get 2nd seed, I'm not convinced that would be in their best interests. A short 3 game (maybe 2) all at home might actually be better in the long run, for a team trying to break an 18 game post season losing streak.
