Royals (Ragans) vs Twins (Varland): 8/14/24, 12:10pm
insagt1 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
1st time thru the lineup, Twins have had some butt ugly AB's. Rev up the 'k' machine. Martin looked like he couldn't care less up there. two awful swings and then he just walked away from strike 3. A bad look. -

Varland won't make it much past 4th inning as he isn't sharp at all and is throwing a ton of pitches. Twins will need to get the bats going. This game has all the markings of 'we won the series so 2 of 3 ain't so bad'. A comeback win today would be a bonus. We'll see -
Wow. This crew can be brutally mean spirited when new ideas are brought up. You can simply disagree with the premise without making the one who did the analysis feel like a moron. Right? Well guess not here. My biggest complaint about this forum. For me as a real old timer I can't understand all the alphabet soup that is sprinkled all about. I guess most of you know what it all means and why it's so important..but maybe there are still a few of us who need a bit more explanations? ,(cue: more snarky comments) I also lived in an era where there wasn't as much over-managing..such as how Hyde futzes with his pitchers. .since his tea leaves and horoscopes and reams of stats direct him. The game has become so mechanical now. Maybe that's what today's fan craves. I won't judge. So while Vazquez may not be the ideal leadoff hitter at least the poster did the analysis to back up his position. Props for that. I

Royals (Singer) vs Twins (Lopez): 8/12/24, 6:40pm

Pablo not looking to 'ace-like' tonite. Doesn't bode well. We need him to be 'real good'. So far, he is not on the 'real-good-o-meter' -

I hate strikeouts and Twins had some miserable swings against Singer. Larnach totally fooled. Wallner watched one pretty much down the middle. Its only 1 inning I know, but I still hate the k's. Hopefully the guys will figure it out. -
Not sure many had the Twins competing for the top this year specially after being down by as many as 9 games. But here they are..banged up bruised and ready to take a legit kick at the can. A win today and it's just a 1.5 game deficit AND finally a much needed series win against those guys. So yeah if 1stis the goal today is huge. If not still time to make up ground. And let's not forget KC. There will be lots of pressure games down the stretch. I agree..comparing this in any way to football is disingenuous. Totally different in every way. Should be fun. We need Carlos back. When?

I suppose if Lee in NOT hurt, he needs to stay. If he is acutally too hurt to contribute right now, I like many of the suggestions posed in this thread. I think though that its important to get to September and post season, so playing hard in August is a must too. Making post season for Twins is not a slam dunk but they have held a WC most the season. But take nothing for granted. Look at how awful the O;s and Yanks have been playing lately.

all those streaming platforms are a royal pain...but that seems to be the future of pro sports. Last NFL season a key Bills game was available only on Peacock...which many don't have or want. But hey, its a business ploy to get people to spend more money...which is the way of the world these days. I hate it, but that horse has left the barn and its not coming back.

Players will always deny that they look at the standings or worry about 'such things'. However one would have to be dead to deny these next 7 games are HUGE for many reasons...not the least of which is Twins must learn how to beat Cleveland one of these days! They have kept the door open for Twins but so far Twins haven't taken full advantage. Now its head to head and so far this season it has not gone well for Minnesota at all. Would love for that to change and would also love to get some key players back in the lineup. Not to overlook KC either. Twins need to at the least, stay ahead of them. We are about to see what this team is made of. Pretty exciting. Go Twins!

Taking 2 of 3 against the best team in baseball IS a big deal, no doubt. Especially with so many regulars banged up. Julien...yeah, he needs to go back down. He strikes out far too much..and that has been something he just can't correct. The guy has talent, but he's not quite up to MLB standards. Agree, Lee has really cooled off. He plugged the hole that Lewis left for a short while, but not lately. What concerns me a bit is that Lewis was battling a slump when he went down. Hope he comes back hot.

Four Takeaways From the Minnesota Twins' First Half
insagt1 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Few complaints and more smiles than anticipated so far. Only reason they won't catch Cleveland is they can't beat at all head to head. Twins need to spend some money to stay competitive at the highest level. They must stop acting like a second tier practically broke franchise. But they must spend prudently. Buxton playing regularly and regaining his stroke is a huge plus. Only pray it lasts. Correa is money in the bank..Lee has been a surprise plus so far. Lewis is a stud but can't stay healthy...actually though he was slumping when he went on the IL. Wish Kepler would stop being so streaky. Right now his bat is dead again. Same with Jeffers who started hot and then really cooled. Biggest pitching disappointment hands down has been Pablo. His 1st half was unacceptable. He has to be better for Twins to have any shot. Overall it has been mostly a fun team to watch- 73 replies

We knew we were due to lose one to the White Sox eventually, so game 1 loss was not unexpected (it was ugly, but not unexpected) The bats continued to be quiet in game two, but a couple of long balls and a big hit by Jeffers got the job done to get the split. Continue to be impressed with Lee. Does seem unlikely that they can send him back down when Lewis comes back. All things considered, taking 2 of 3 didn't hurt too bad!

No idea about #1. As for Lee, so far he looks real good. Very impressed with his 'd' and he seems to able to handle the bat. Of course the pitchers don't know much about him yet. He definitely stays and if his play stays solid, they won't rush Lewis back. Everybody in Twins Nation is concerned that Lewis can't stay healthy. When he goes down, its always for a long time. (sound somewhat familiar?) As for Farmer, they will probably stick with him for awhile longer. Julien definitely needs to work on his contact. Way too many k's. (I'm pretty sure Washington is telling Gallo, hey guy take your time, don't have to rush back..how can any team be looking forward to a hitter who strikes out more than once every two AB's returning to take someone's place in the lineup??)

Twins (TBD) vs White Sox (Flexen): 7/8/24, 7:10pm
insagt1 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
Twins have rightly beaten up on the Sox so far this season. They have to continue. A team thats already 40 under .500 can't steal games from a contender who just took 2 of 3 from arguably the hottest team in the AL over the past several weeks. Can't let up. Each win counts as one win, no matter who its against. -
IMO, Lopez is key to 2nd half success or failure. We got him to be a stopper of sorts or at least a #2 or #3 starter. He has been pretty 'off' all season. A couple of good outings sandwiched in between far too many real clunkers. He needs to be why we traded for him. And its not that he is pitching into bad luck or no run support. He has been just plain ineffective in too many starts. Get him fixed and I have to like Twins chances of maybe chasing down Cleveland.

Since June 18th Buck is 20-52...one of his more impressive streaks. Hope that keeps up. He is a weapon when hot like this. But we also know that it rarely lasts. Maybe this time it will? Real nice play by Lee. Agree if he can hit no reason to send him back if/when Lewis ever gets healthy. Lewis inability to stay on the field is very concerning. His bat can be lethal but he can't spend the majority of the season on the IL -

This is Why Byron Buxton is Worth His Contract
insagt1 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
very interesting discussion...pro and con. When mentioning Lewis...gotta be noted that he is in a pretty deep slump at the moment. His BA once in the high .300's is now in the middle to just a tad better .250's. Quite a drop. It happens. I'm happy to ride Buck when he's hot. He will cool off, he always does. But he is a gamer. I'd love to see him finish this season without another trip to the IL. A healthy Buck and a return to form Lewis will propel these guys into post season again. -
Rays (Civale) vs Twins (Lopez): 6/18/24, 6:40pm
insagt1 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
Glad they got it done in regulation. Duran set it up nicely with a good top of the 9th. Rocco pushed a right button with Santana. When it works (you look like a genius!) Back in 2nd place and only 4.5 back of the Guards (they have games in hand) But more importantly Twins are playing winning ball these days so the standings will take care of themselves. Only frustration for me would be the Evil Empire beat the O's and Cole pitches game 2. O's can't afford to be swept. -
interesting comparison. i have to think that so far this season its hard to think that Lopez's season is anything other than dismal. Lately he can barely get thru 4 innings. He is giving up runs by the boatload. The ERA and WHIP make you want to cover your eyes. TWINS have to be concerned. We need for him to turn it around 2nd half, because the team does appear to be righting the ship, especially offensively. I wasn't confident that this would happen but they once again are perhaps able to contend with Cleveland. (now if only they could beat them head to head) So a strong Lopez would be nice 2nd half.

Not too late for Lopez to get his act together. So far quite a disappointment but he could change all that if he can be the guy they traded for. I'm hopeful
