  1. Used to be we complained that all the Twins hitters were simply swinging for the 3 run HR and lost touch with how else to score runs. Now, not only don't they know how to generate runs with 'small ball', their power has totally disappeared. Lewis and Miranda aren't going deep anymore. Santana gets one once in awhile but his offense has also shut down. And down the line we go. Wallner will hit one occasionally. Larnach the same. But over the past few weeks, with Twins losing most the time, the hitting has been weak to non-existent. Lewis has been 'discovered' by opposing pitchers and he is merely a shell of what he was. His AB's are hard to watch. Yeah, he's probably playing hurt...admirable maybe but its not helping the team. Twins won't survive the week playing like this. There is no magic bullet to prevent days like yesterday when everyone simply didn't show up. The door is still open, but if they can't sweep the lowly 99 loss Marlins clearly they do need to pack up and go home. Anything less than 3 wins will be unacceptable and probably will knock them out of the race. Seriously though, just when I think a team can't look any worse.....there are my dear Orioles who have purchased their own dumpster for a nice hot fire. Ah, baseball. Yes, as fans we should be hopeful and positive.....but.....really????
  2. Twins are playing SO poorly these days optimism of any kind is a fairy tale. Watching them yesterday you saw a team I'll prepared to be a contender. They were a mess. They will need a ton more of whatever it takes to make the playoffs. And don't think the Orioles will have nothing to play for this weekend. They have been as hopeless as the Twins and they can't afford to rest anyone. That series featuring two teams that have lost their way should be curiously interesting. They are my 2 favorite teams so I'd kinda like at least one of them to make the cut and start playing well.
  3. I know they were down by 6 but the ABs in the 9th showed a team that went to the plate half-heartedly. Actually this game ended when the 3 run HR reversed the 2-0 lead. There were 2 outs and none on. After that our boys went home. Listless and not engaged. Pretty much the story of both games. And as a result the Twins actually put Boston back into the race. Probably not likely, but they are still mathematically in it. And thats just plain sad.
  4. At least we can say it has been a total team collapse...from the manager on down. These games have been very tough to watch. Who would have imagined only a few weeks ago that on the last week of the season they would be on the outside looking in....helplessly.
  5. Twins wouldn't score 6 runs in all the games next week combined. They have quit today. Totally quit. The pitching is a disgrace and the hitters haven't shown up all day. Hard to like this team.
  6. Twins imploding. Bullpen throwing batting practice. The team is a complete mess. Complete mess.
  7. For the love of Mike...Rocco get Irvin out of there. You are running out of innings and bad decisions. Blowing this double header will be so hard to swallow. But then, in honesty, Twins have played miserable ball for weeks now so I guess we shouldn't be surprised.
  8. O's totally beat themselves in both losses this weekend. Terrible coaching; terrible baserunning; terrible clutch hitting and a touch of bad luck.
  9. I have rarely seen a player go from darling and hero to 'why is he in the lineup' like Lewis. Since returning from his last long injury, he has mostly lost it. An occasional decent AB but the BA is now in the .240's. He's not a 'bust' but he IS a disappointment and has added to the Twins ineptness at the plate. So their answer to the Sox 3 run inning is 3 quick outs.
  10. KC and Seattle both lose which helps. But if Twins can't win this game it may not matter too much. Rocco with his 'managing' manages to turn a 2-0 lead into a 3-2 deficit because his reliever couldn't throw strikes and then when he did...it was high and mighty over the monster. Irvin has been terrible. Twins just seem to be clueless. When will the switch be flipped? Probably never. But...they do have the hapless, helpless, clueless Orioles to end the season. But both teams define frustration. Both managers and their coaches have totally ticked off their fanbase.
  11. So the results tonite really helped. Twins win and Tigers loss moves Twins back into the 3rd WC by 1 game. KC also lost so Twins trail 2nd WC by just 1 game. Seattle wins to stay 2 back. And of course Boston loses to make it near impossible for them to crawl back in it. Naturally one win does not a season make. they need to string a couple more. Props all the way around to the beleaguered bullpen who rose to the occasion tonite.
  12. This would hardly qualify as their best win...but it would qualify as a win that has been a long time coming. And I guess since this is now a 9 game season and Detroit got clobbered by Baltimore, it is quite meaningful.
  13. Lewis with a horrible AB but Twins did get 3. Should be enough, right?
  14. They keep flashing to the Twins dugout and only one player seems the least bit interested in this game. At least thats what I see. This week is as bad as the hitters have looked that I can remember this season. So Buck bleeds one thru to put runners on 1st and 3rd no outs. Guess we should expect strikeouts and pop outs to follow.
  15. Red Sox have fanned 19 times tonite. They suck as bad as the Twins in this offensive clown show. Props to Twins pitchers who will deserve a whole lot better if Twins blow this game.
  16. If I didn't know better I would be convinced the Twins hitters have been told to go up and look clueless. What incredibly weak, useless AB's. Now its raining hard. Good time for Sox to just dink one into the outfield to end this mess. Margot didn't even try in his futile AB. Winning run back at 3rd for Boston.
  17. oops...a brief reprieve as Sox run into an out at home. Twins get another chance for futility in the 11th.
  18. watching this pathetic offense night in and night out makes one want to follow another sport. Twins hitters are incredibly inept and have wasted good start after good start. Nobody is picking anybody up anymore. Two pop foul outs by key hitters.....and now they are poised and ready to lose their 3rd straight extra inning low scoring game. Ladies and gents...we would now like to welcome Seattle to the dance as Twins continue to trash their season.
  19. As a fan I never want my team to not succeed. Frustrated to the point of breaking? Yes. But playing is always (mostly) better than not playing. Having said that, the past few weeks and especially this past series does make it hard to be confident that things will change. They have the formula down pat: hitters fail with RISP; hitters strike out with regularity; bullpen fails completely in late innings of close games. Just as soon as both Correa and Buxton failed to deliver the runs in the 10th, you knew, without a doubt the game was over. When Rocco paraded Thielbar out there in the 10th, all you could really do was laugh and walk away. Its a 9 game season now and none of the wild cards have been settled. Major slumps by Orioles and Twins and a recent slide by KC truly does make this a race to the bottom. Only Detroit looks like it might be the Texas Rangers of 2024. Twins have as good a shot as anyone in these 9 games...IF, IF they actually knew how to win. Which they don't. But the games will be played and we will hang on to the bitter end, kicking, bitching, complaining, and all that goes with a team in distress. Thats all thats left us. Time it was and such a time it was.
  20. The way they lost 3 winnable games this series says it all. When it was crunch time they simply choked away all 3. Bullpen was a mess. Strikeouts and weak AB'S with RISP when it counted most. Poor plate approach. Not playing for each other. Same script every game. How does anyone believe this will change with 9 games left. Only hope IMO is for KC to continue their freefall.. Detroit won't be catchable by weeks end.
  21. The fail is complete. When Thielbar comes in to try and keep the game tied, you know the Twins have thrown in the towel. There is no excuse. The team is simply not very good and nobody is saving them. That mythical 'winning streak' is not going to happen. they just lose and lose and lose while teasing along the way. How can anyone be hopeful after this miserable series? Sad thing is Twins could have won all 4 games if they had any hitters who bought in to the team concept. Just get it over with now.
  22. Might as well just give up now. Can't score with sacks juiced 1 out and Correa and Buxton due up and nothing.....Twins will lose this one and it will be deserved. The team is just not picking each other up. they are wasting good starting pitching. And the bullpen is so awful they are giving up completely by sending Thielbar out to quickly give up the winning hit. No hits since the 5th. Only 3 all day. How the hell do you win with that? Bah
  23. If Twins think for one minute they can win this game (or any game) with 3 hits, they need to take a reality pill. the hitting has been so dismal. Just waiting for the inevitable.
  24. Twins must start scoring runs. There is no way they win this game late against Cleveland unless they get a few runs. Which has been the impossible dream.
  25. 'they can still get on a winning streak'. Problem is there is zero evidence of that happening and time is flat running out. Does anyone who has watched these guys honestly think they have a large winning streak in them? Sure, anything is possible but we have to be somewhat realistic and see that their play over the last month has been chronically bad. Losing tough games has been their playbook. Resting Buck and Correa might have been a strategy, assuming the team had a playoff spot locked but that is no longer the case. Those 2 have to play everyday to help the team stay afloat. Its a long off-season. They can help whereas their replacements....less so. Why 'save' them for only 9 more games? Twins do have one bright spot. they end by playing the Orioles, who right now are playing worse than the WhiteSox, and if its possible to look worse, the O's are the poster children. But the grim reaper has taken up residence in Minnesota. They need to figure out how to get rid of him fast.
