  1. Interesting comment during the game. When a guy comes in as a pinch hitter, he can't take that first pitch down the middle. He has to swing. Its giving the pitcher a free strike and a huge advantage to a 'cold' hitter. Little things...turn into big things. For Twins to win, they have to score with RISP and they can't be striking out half the time. (of course, to be fair, those 2 DP's early in the game sure didn't help the cause!!)
  2. 2 k's..13 in total. Bah, an afternoon of lousy baseball. Both Texas teams win and I can't stand it. Twins showed more intensity than the sleepy Orioles, but the 13 k's just must go away if Twins have a shot at getting another win this post season.
  3. I was wrong...but the result wasn;t good!
  4. If they don't come back I'd like each hitter to hit the ball and not wave at strike 3...or take close ones because they should know the umps aren't going to give them the close ones.
  5. 11 k's today...and a handful with RISP. Thats just not going to get it done.
  6. I swear those strikeouts are sucking the life out of me. And sadly they are so predictable. When they need contact, it just isn't there.
  7. when you make a huge 4 run comeback, you need a shutdown inning, Unfortunately they didn't get one. Another mountain to climb
  8. thats exactly what we didn't want to have happen. bummer.
  9. This reminded me of the O's win over Toronto when they took Berrios out after pitching so well. Soon as he came out, O's got the only 2 runs they needed. Coming back from 5 down a lot harder and its a lot later, but they have a shot. Hope they don't stop one run short, One more run.....
  10. and now Lewis. Getting verlander out of there was what the doctor ordered. Let's not lose this one now.
  11. Theres the hit we were looking for. We have a game
  12. ..and the strikeouts rear their ugly heads. Runners haven't budged. Sigh
  13. gotta take advantage of this. Score some runs.
  14. OK--lets get some hits and show some life.
  15. lousy call on CC. But, the line between optimism and realism is not blurred in this game. Twins hitters don't look very good and Verlander is showing us why only Andy Pettitte has more post season wins. Not a good formula for the good guys today. Last hope is maybe Twins can get to their bullpen. 5 runs is a lot though.
  16. old story..if you don't get to a HOF starter early in the game, you'll never get to him...as we're seeing now.
  17. Maeda is not sharp today. Think its time to sit him down. This game has gotten away from the Twins.
  18. If Twins could get some runs its not a waste. But if they have him out there for 4 innings and Twins don't come close, can he pitch again in either 2 or 3? If its 1-0, I think its a different story. But Verlander, 3-0, and Twins not getting it done at the plate, I just wonder what the bigger plan is? Thats all. They need Maeda for several innings of a game they could win. But we'll see.
  19. Down by 3, do you 'waste' Maeda in this spot? Do you send Ober back out in the 4th to eat another inning? Can Twins actually get at least 3 today? (I doubt it)
  20. well both my teams look like crap today. O's hitting funk continues as they looked awful against Texas. Twins already down by 3 against Verlander. Me not happy.
  21. Astros are still the reigning Champs so taking them down would be great of course. They seem to ramp things up once they get to post season. (cheating or not cheating!) But its time to clear them out. Won't be easy. Don't expect another 'gift' from the Astros (removing a solid starting pitcher after fewer than 50 pitches, and in complete control.) Verlander is still pretty good, but he can be beaten. Twins hitters however have to make more contact overall to beat the Astros. They definitely can do it. Naturally I want the O's to beat Texas. A Twins-O's ALCS would be a great series...two teams that haven't won it all in many years (with apologies to Texas who also fit that narrative) But its definitely time to kick Houston to the curb.
  22. Berrios is probably trying to reach all his friends on the Twins and asking them....'is there any way you can get me back here in 2024'? Interesting that all 4 series were 2 game sweeps. Now its time for Twins to beat up on public enemy #1. Meanwhile the O's don't have to face TB again. That O's-Twins showdown could realistically happen.
  23. like yesterday Twins aren't exactly knocking the cover off the ball. But pitching and 'd' so far has carried the day. 9 huge outs to get.
