    What do they project the division standings to be? The Royals did get better with the trade yesterday for Andrew Benintendi and with Carlos Santana and others they have a decent offense. Will they have enough pitching to be a .500 team? Can they catch Cleveland?

    nice points good idea. I am surprised the Twins haven't made a trade. I do think the Twins are concerned about a potential work stoppage after next season as they are not signing anyone beyond next season at this point.

    This trade is a win win in terms of what each club accomplished. I think in terms of value in a vacuum the Twins come out on top. But for the Dodgers the value comes from getting rid of a potential headache/ nightmare. Having an SP from overseas not happy in LA could make it harder to recruit more SP or players from overseas if they did not handle it well. Also benefiting the Twins is the success and happiness that Maeda takes back to Japan and tells Japanese players that Minnesota is a good place to play. While Maeda has struggled pitching further down the season, I think he was still a solid 5 inning starter which is all Falvey and company ask for. So lets see how this season plays out and I am glad to have Maeda on our team. Last point on Maeda, even if he struggles down the stretch, a SP with an ERA around 4.00 with 170 innings pitched is worth far more than his contract. As far as Graterol is concerned, I can see him becoming an elite reliever. he has the fast ball and I think his slider is good too. he just didn't have a third pitch if I remember correctly so starting wasn't a real option without that.

    If Rooker takes off hitting then what, as far as Killeroff is concerned?

    I think he is a fun guy to have on the roster. Unless he is hitting the snot out of the ball, I would be fine as long as he gets less then 200 ABs this season and Catches less than 25 innings. He also needs to start less than 15 games at both 3rd, 1B, and 10 in LF.

    If the Dodgers use this as an opportunity to buy prospects, I bet both teams can find common ground to make a deal work.

    Darius, I think the article was about negotiating strategies. Not bidding against themselves to get their player. The article was not about whether that player had risks or was a risk to sign as all players are risks.

    40 million / 135million Twins team max payroll = 30% of our payroll would go to just Bauer. way too much for one player.

    As much as I would like to have Escobar back. Its fun to see how long the Aj Pierzinski trade from back in 2002 will continue to have an impact on our roster. In that trade we got Liriano who we traded to get Escobar and now we have 2 good prospects who will have a roll of some kind the next 6-8 year....

    I think Wade is a solid 4th OF Seems like this pitcher is a solid depth piece. So its more of a win win trade for both teams. However since Wade can play all 3 OF positions I figured he would replace Cave on the bench at some point.

    Dang Soria signed with AZ for 3.5 million. I think we will be fine if the Twins go get Clippard and Rosenthal or the other Alex Coloumbe. That would be a good enough offseason for me. If they add Paxton on top...wow...

    If Cruz signs again next year and is an MVP hitter the next 2 seasons like the last 2 can he go in the Hall of Fame as a Twin? Also he wins World Series MVP at least once the next 2 seasons too.....

    looks like Clippard or Kintzler for a bullpen role. is Rosenthal even a possibility? And that should wrap up the offseason. I am glad to have Cruz back for at least one more season. Its fun when we can see how great our team should be this year.

    We could sign Cruz then make a low cost offer on Archer and sign a reliever like Kintzler or Clippard on the cheap

    Good article but I will offer a counter argument. Signing Cruz will affect the playing time for some players including Rooker, Arreaz, Cave and maybe a few ABs from Killeroff. Cruz will also keep us from cycling players like Sano and Donaldson through DH. But if he hits the same as last year.... Being a 150% OPS is another level of hitting and greatly improves our lineup. Also our improved defense greatly helps Dobnak the most so I think he deserves a full opportunity. We do need another reliever if we can get at least Clippard back at 4 or 5 million we can afford Cruz, Clippard, and a SP on a minor league contract for depth.

    I would hate to trade a .300+ hitting batting title contender bench player with a .400 OBP making near league minimum. That is a high value component for our team. As long as he gets 500 plate appearances.

    Next season the SS free agent market will be mega deep with lots of options. So the 1 year contract will not be a drag. Also if we resign Cruz it will likely be for 1 year only so we will have resources next offseason to sign a better power hitting SS.

    With Rosario gone and Garver coming back from an injury filled year and same with Donaldson I guess, We should sign a power hitter preferably Cruz but there are other options. I prefer Cruz as he is such a good fit on the team and within the community and clubhouse.

    A quick idea on value shopping. Why not bring back reliever Brandon Kintzler? This puts my first name back on the Twins but more importantly a solid reliever at a low cost. He has a career 3.38 ERA and he is consistent about his performance year in and year out so you know what to expect. He can be used in 5th - 9th innings. and be had on a 1 year deal to keep flexibility. I do expect that we will circle back and resign Tyler Clippard. but we could do worse than Kintzler. Just a thought.

    This trade is like Detroit's Doyle Alexander trade. He went 9-0 in 87 and they made the playoffs and he went 14 - 11 the next year then cratered .... but they gave up John Smoltz for him.

    I will like this move more if we sign Oaklands former SS and Cruz. Then we are justified going lower cost on pitching. But Happy isn't a bad pitcher. Watch us resign him next offseason.

    Im in on Schilling, Clements and Bonds. Yes they are not perfect people but they did great things on the field. Would represent 2020/ 2021 very well. I am not as sold on Andrew Jones. Vizquel is a tossup. I would like to see top defensive people make the Hall Of Fame. He came close to 3000 hits and score 1406 runs I think. Not hall of fame but close but his defense was hall of fame. Rolen I am also on the fence. I do like him.but the injuries hurt him. Wagner should be in. He was so Dominant compared to his peers in his playing days.

    back to the Odorizzi discussion. With the Players Union agreement up at the end of the year, Finding an Odorizzi replacement on a 1 year deal. Garret Richards could be had on a shorter contract. I suspect he could be had on a 1 year with mutual option contract. I bet he would be as good as Odorizzi. I like Odorizzi because he likes playing for Minnesota and is solid. But if we can find a better value or if he can get a better deal....
