    This is really getting tiresome… OPS+ this year: Vazquez 61 Correa 96 Buxton 99 Gallo 109 Vazquez, Correa, and Buxton were supposed to carry the team this year, not Gallo. Gallo’s numbers are about his career averages. He is doing what was expected (not hoped for, expected). Yet Gallo takes the brunt of the heat here, not those three. That's all I am saying. You don't like Gallo, that is fine. You think he is holding someone back (though I am not sure who), you are entitled to that opinion. Maybe point your frustration at the players that deserve it more…

    I actually think it should be the exact opposite. There should be little to no patience for Buxton, Correa, and Vazquez. They were brough in to be the foundation of this offense and are the main reason why the Twins are not 15-20 games over .500. Pretty easy to rail on the 2nd and 3rd tier guys. They are 2nd and 3rd tier guys for a reason. Dissect and destroy the top guys every day. They have earned that scrutiny.

    The Twins consider the need for him at 1B to be real. Whether we as fans like it or not, that won't change. You can scream about bringing guys up to play that position all you want, but in reality there is really nobody to replace him. He strikes out way too much for my tastes, but in today's game, he does have value. As of yesterday for the year: WAR = 0.6 OPS+ = 109 Personally, I think that Gallo takes too much of the negative brunt of the offense in general. I bet if you look at the TD posts and articles, Gallo (along with the other two musketeers Kepler and Pagan) receive an incredibly high number of negative posts compared to Correa and Vazquez, (and to a lesser degree Buxton) who are way more to blame for the Twins current problems. His overall offensive numbers are pretty close to his career averages. He is a low-end starter with great defensive value. He is what he is. People need to stop complaining about this and move on. He isn't going anywhere.

    I fully believe Kepler will be back next year, very little doubt. Pagan pitching up to expectations could easily warrant him being back as well. With him having played for the Twins, investing in a "known" product is easier than taking yet another flier on a B-C grade reliever.

    It is going to be an interesting day here when it is announced that Kepler and Pagan will be back in Twins uniforms in 2024...

    Everybody wants a strong BP. But... With very few exceptions, spending any substantial amount of money on FA relievers should terrify you. The volatility of relief pitchers is crazy.

    I am almost 100% in agreement here: Offer Gray the QO. If he takes it, great. If not, that means he wants a multi-year contract I can't see the Twins offering. Could easily see Maeda back. I think 2-3 years is reasonable, especially if they do not tie salary to starts. His flexibility could be a huge swing in the Twins favor. Mahle should get a Pineda-type offer, which he would be dumb not to take. That being said, I am not convinced they will stand pat with the youth if Gray/Maeda leave. Would not be surprised to see another SP FA addition in the offseason.

    Not changing my stance after one start and killer MiLB numbers... One start is knee jerk, two you begin to question. Another rough one and he may not get a fourth with a team in a playoff hunt.

    Somebody is gonna give Gallo a contract. Could be a low guarantee, could be minor league invite. He is not the worst choice as a Nick Punto type super-sub. That being said, I am highly doubtful it will be Minnesota.

    Much to the chagrin of the mob, I believe they will pick up his option. There are other OF at a higher risk of not being here next year (Taylor, Gordon, Gallo). You have to ask yourself what type of improvement could you get for $10m? Kepler is a known product. He has been with the organization a long time (sorry guys, there is value in that). Brings strong defense and decent power. If he was more consistent with the bat, he would be making considerably more. By all accounts he is a good clubhouse glue guy. Personally, I would like to see him provide more flexibility in the OF, playing wherever they need him. He is a strong enough defender to play all three positions. There are much bigger concerns than Kepler on the roster, feels like an easy decision.

    Well I know the general consensus believes there needs to be a razing from the top down. I am not so sure. Not enough metrics. Too much metrics. Should have traded this guy. Should have acquired that guy. <Insert prospect here> should be playing over <insert veteran here>... Arguing semantics or hindsight serves little purpose. This FO had some unique challenges when they first came on board. The basically gutted and overhauled the entire administration to bring them up to speed on metric usage. They had to rebuild a system that had zero pitching prospects "But FDG, that was years ago! What have they done for me lately?" Made the playoffs multiple times. In other years (like this one), have put teams together that on paper were strong, but underperformed or were decimated by injuries. Continue to push a relatively cheap ownership group to spend and invest more. Sign guys they had no business being in on... I am not going to sit here and defend these guys, but I am also not going to tear them apart either. I am not convinced that things are SOOOO bad for the Twins that gutting the FO is the way to go. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but opinions are all they are. Nobody here is a party to all of the factors that go into their decisions, myself included. Have at it...

    Wrong take Nick... I am saying that (potentially) because the players around him are not hitting well, teams may be less likely to give him better pitches to hit, which in turn may be affecting his approach. In no way am I protecting Correa here his performance has been terrible. I am saying that it would be very interesting to know WHY this year is different than previous ones and what may be causing it

    Everybody calling for a house clearing... You are expecting that the following regime would be better. Far from a sure thing. A regime change is a change in approach and culture and can take many years to see results. Watch what you ask for...

    In a bubble, this is probably true. But with the cupboard relatively bare in the minors at the moment, would you have rather seen them overpay for Tommy Pham? Tommy might give the Twins 1 win? This low bar you are referring to always comes at a cost. While I don't agree with this line of thought, they are probably feeling a little hammered after last year's moves. The Twins biggest issue is 75% of the players they have are not playing to the level they should be. That is not going to be fixed by a minor deadline deal.

    Careful with this type of take Possum, it doesn't involve cutting bait after 100 games... Yes he is having a bad year. He, along with most of the rest of the offense. Correa (and Buxton) is not going anywhere. Would be interesting to know what (if any) things may be impacting him: Minor injuries? Change in approach? Are they pitching him differently because of the lineup around him?

    Between Maeda and Gray, I have always thought that Maeda was an extension candidate. Yes, he is older, but I think he fits into the Twins 3 year plan pretty well. When healthy, he has been successful and he has shown enough flexibility to do what ever the Twins ask of him. He would also be relatively inexpensive and a known product. I think the chances of Keuchel being on the big leaguer roster before the deadline are pretty high. If there wasn't a visible path to the roster, he would have opted out at the first time.

    Looking at the roster and the names coming back, here is what I would do: I would be looking to move Gallo (yes he has value) and Larnach specifically. Polanco would be tough to move just coming off the IL. Farmer and Taylor are too important to this year's team and should not be moved. Kepler is not going anywhere. I would be very surprised to see Gray or Maeda moved. Gray has regressed over the last month+, but like it or not, he is still their horse. I believe Maeda is an extension candidate, so I do not see them moving him either. The other fringe guys (Wallner, Martin, half a dozen AAA SP) could be moved for the right prices. Just don't want to see an overpay.

    Trading Buxton so quickly after the extension would mean they are giving up on him. I do not believe the Twins are ready to do that yet. Imagine the kickback on selling low on Buxton, only to have him healthy and killing it somewhere else... Like it or not, Buxton will be a Twin for a long time

    The Taylor Swift theory is real! You already addressed the Joe Ryan handsomeness issue. You know all the Swiftees (or whatever they call themselves. Swiftites?) are looking for the next great breakup song. I heard the title of her next song to be released is "Striking out in love". This is not a coincidence...
