  1. Who is this arm that they can trade for? The contenders that have good pitching want more of it not less. The non-contenders have very little in the way of quality to offer. The d'backs may be willing to move Robbie Ray. But he has yet to really prove himself an frontend SP. And I'd hate to give up the guys you mention for 1 season of him. The FO failed to get a front end guy during the 2019 season. I guess I have little confidence they will do so now.
  2. Bumgarner is not as good as Wheeler. We went 5/100 on him. 4/76 is where I'd go on madbum. I could see a 5th year if it was a team option of 19mil with a 2-3mil buyout. But our AAV offer to Bumgarner should be less than Wheeler imo.
  3. I won't be unhappy if Bumgarner is never a Twin. I could handle a Tehran signing. Maybe they heavily pursue Strasburg. But please lets stay away from Homer Bailey. Last season WAS his bounce back season, and it still wasn't very good. Homer Bailey stinks.
  4. 2 more SP spots and Cron's spot left to get better. I still expect one of those SP to be filled by who we already have. So far you are right in that we are not better. We have some everyday players who it wouldn't surprise if we see some regression. I don't see Odo or Pineda being as good either. Berrios I think will be even better. We lost a few coaches too. CWS is better, and even if they don't win the Central yet will be a harder W when they are played.
  5. I don't understand people wanting Donaldson though. That would likely mean Sano at 1B. Not good. If we're going to play with extra dollars go at Strasburg. He would actually improve the team.
  6. Thus far we are not better. With some guys having some natural expected regression we would be worse. Lots of off season left to get better though.
  7. There are no less than 12-13 teams in on Keuchel, Bumgarner and Ryu. There are likely a few less in on Cole and Strasburg. 5 guys that a dozen or more teams want and desire. That means the others will get to divide the likes of Wood, Pineda, Tehran, Miley, Porcello and Roark. I can see Falvine at the press conference trying to pass off Porcello as frontline pitching at this point in his career......
  8. At this point if we're going to overpay for someone lets overpay for Strasburg. But unfortunately we will be bidding against NYY and the LA's and Nat's. 6/190 might get him to listen. Cole was my first choice but based on rumors swirling it doesn't even sound like we are even considering these guys. But I agree with Chief, whoever gets madbum will have to overpay, My guess is 4/90 or more. It may make Wheeler look like a bargain. But Falvine knew they wouldn't get Wheeler with a 5/100, but they at least "tried".
  9. Wheeler was the better get. We were willing to go 5/100 on him. I see madbum going 4/90. We won't get him as my guess is we offer somewhere along the lines of 4/77 based on what we offered Wheeler. We have an org that wants to look good but isn't willing to do what it actually takes to get these kind of pieces. I understand that Wheeler wanted to pitch close to Jersey. But being 18mil apart on the offers isn't even close tbh. We will soon be kicking the tires on Roark and Tehran is what I see.
  10. Strasburg is going to get 6/180 from Nyy or the Nat's. I'd love him on our team, but we'd likely have to offer between 190-200 mil to get his attention. imo Jimmy won't sign off on it.
  11. I'm in the sign him up camp. I'd go maybe 2/12 on an option.
  12. Problem too when you sign a guy like Gausman/Perez to a deal like you propose he becomes a guy that is going to make the team instead of a fringe candidate. So we're left with relying on them. I'm for signing bounce back guys, like Anibal Sanchez was. But when a guy is signed for 6 mil inspite of how bad he was he's making the team and we are stuck with him no matter how bad he is and the fallback becomes a AAA player. If we're not going to bring in front end guys with this team and the needs this team has then when are we? The answer would be, never.
  13. Yes they can do both. The problem is they haven't been. We needed pitching last season, we got Perez the bounce back candidate. We are in a bad spot of only having 2 SP's now b/c the FO has put us in this situation. Signing bounce back guys is fine, after you have signed the sure things.
  14. But this is what they do to us every off season it seems. Have us be happy to not have improvements. Without Cole or Wheeler, etc this is not a better rotation. Berrios, Odo, Pineda is not a WS rotation.
  15. Scratch off Wheeler. Now we can fight for the leftovers.
  16. Problem is you will have the same teams that are in on Wheeler doing the same thing and maybe the Wheeler winner too. The Twins are not in a good position with having 3 open spots at once. My hunch has been all along that Odorizzi will be our biggest signing. I've been hoping to be wrong but I doubt it if we lose on Wheeler which sounds likely right now.
  17. Gausman is what makes being a Twins fan frustrating. Year after year we are left with dreaming about bounce back candidates and drooling about never has beens. Really sick of this. Spend for Wheeler and Ryu. Or Cole. Enough of the Pelfrey's ,Perez's and Correia's. Enough.
  18. The problem with this strategy is that every team that has good pitching is looking for more and not looking to trade what they have. The teams that might be looking to trade away pitching don't have much to trade away, certainly not much in the way of impact players. Very likely the only way to get better in this market is to shell out the money.Wheeler is the 3rd best SP available this season and we only have 2 SP on board. If we won't shell out with the team we have and the needs we have then we never will.
  19. When Buxton does leave the Twins, whether as an FA or by trade, Oakland is where I'd like to see him land. It would remind me of one of my all-time favorites. Rickey Henderson. Too bad Buxton can't stay on the field. He'd maybe be as great as Rickey was.
  20. Wheeler now has an offer in hand of at least 100mil.
  21. This. For 2020 we need a 1B. Like him there or not we have Sano at 3B and I don't like him at 1B if the plan is to contend. Kiriloff and Lewis is where it would start with Chapman. What would it take to acquire Olson? A lot....
  22. Gonzalez isn't the bat to be an everyday 1B. I like pursuing a trade with Baltimore for Trey Mancini to be our longterm solution at 1B. They are rumored to be shopping Trey. Maybe Rooker is a piece to be used in this trade. Kiriloff and Larnach can stay as OF's if we have a true 1B. If one of them proves ready this season then Rosario can potentially be moved mid-season. My hunch though is Sano stays at 3B and Kiriloff has the present edge for our 1B. I prefer Mancini but I'm OK with this option.
  23. Sano, 6 errors in his 31 games at 1B. I'm not saying he can't work himself into a quality ML 1B. What I am saying is that a team with WS aspirations isn't going to stick Sano at 1B and hope that he becomes one someday. If we wanted him to be our 1B this should have been done years ago when we were not a good team. Either promote or sign or trade for a quality 1B. We can't afford experimenting on the go with Sano. Donaldson or Rendon is a pipedream at this point. We have Cruz as DH, Sano is more 3B now than he is a 1B so he needs to stay there.
