  1. I put the radio on in the background and break out the Kindle. Don't have cable so there isn't that temptation. When the Twins take a s*, I listen to see how my favorites are doing (Farmer/Lewis) and listen to opposing radio booth (when they are decent) to learn the other team.
  2. Jim Leyland is in Detroit for the weekend. He does scouting and development for the Tigers. Give me ol' tyme Baseball.
  3. Stick with it. It will be a good ball game. Twins needn't win. Gave that up last Lent.
  4. Good discussion in Detroit radio booth about Tigers approach to MN hitters. Get ahead of them; don't nitpick. "They are swingers; throw the ball, they'll swing." Commenter is former MLB pitcher whose voice I do not recognize. Has worked both series. Let's call it the "Gallo(w)s Guillotine" approach.
  5. Detroit radio booth was raving about him. His FB has 5 mph more velo than when he last pitched.
  6. Actually, he should be assistant, assistant coach. RHernandez DPopkins DShomon Triplication
  7. Davey Martinez got tossed this week and then laid on ground to show up where he called it. Now THAT's getting your money worth.
  8. FO told him to get out there, get tossed more often, mix things up.
  9. I have to prepare dinner. No posts till I get back. TIA.
  10. Thanx for the catch. Good grief, Charlie B...
  11. The guys in my squadrons from central city Detroit changed mine. DEE'- troit.
  12. Those of our age understand TWO finalities. (winks).
  13. Understood. MLB seems to understand a dual need to expand demographic if it wants ad revenues via expanded inclusion.
  14. Tigers radio booth is waking up to 2023. * Have had African American doing color * Good female interviewer reporting on all of the Tigers mentoring by older staff members. Baseball has the oldest demographic of any sport. San Diego has diversity: * Gwynn does Padres radio broadcasts I lived in Milwaukee 20 years. No female, Latino, or African American in booths. Sundays - TV only in Spanish on Telemundo carried. Twins have diversity in TV booth on occasion, Hawkins. Marney was doing some before breast cancer diagnosis. What are your oldest recollections of diversity in booths? Mine would be Frank White on Yanks radio; Joe Morgan TV. Female in Yanks radio booth for about 10 years (I don't care for her). I really enjoy Jessica Ofelia Mendoza.
  15. Will have to go to CHS to see if he has the craftiness that so many employ once the rings go out on the cylinder. Looking forward to it as I never saw him live.

  18. Another vote for Farmer at 3B on the A/S game (winks). Guy is one of the better trades FO played. $5,6MM well spent. The boy has GRIT! Joe Ryan needs to tame those BoSox hitters tomorrow. Go Twins.
  19. The "This inning is sponsored by..." has arrived on 'CCO as it has in so many other MLB booths. With new pitch clock, jam those 10-second commercials in between innings.
  20. At old County Stadium in Milwaukee, I stayed out of the bleachers when Cubs were in town. An invitation to trouble, as the train from Chi-town emptied. 5 holding cells were immediately below the LF bleachers.
  21. First votes have been tallied for MLB All Star Game. Ten listed w/totals for each position. Guess how many Twins? https://www.mlb.com/news/second-2023-mlb-all-star-ballot-update
  22. That craze occurred after I got a letter from Lyndon Johnson in '68, inviting me to a party, where we got 3 squares and a cot. I never went back to the area so my historical framework ended precipitously with that segment of life.
  23. Niagara Falls area. All Sicilian pizzas. Uncle used to bring back Bocci's from Buffalo. Superb 1.25" crust, bread like, with a sauce to die for. When we played ball, we used to go to Anastasi's on Sunday afternoon for spaghetti as a team. Mama Anastasi used to come out of the kitchen, noodles first, then scoops of sauce. "You boys needa more..." 75 cents.
  24. Do that silently and not a word needs to be whispered to the team. Do it.
