  1. He's a strong personality that's for sure. Extremely intense competitor. From what I've heard it doesn't sound like he would fit with Rocco's clubhouse chemistry. Twins seem to have a very laid back hands off approach. I trust Rocco to handle it though.
  2. We're still in on Donaldson. Donaldson plus Keuchel would be a heck of an offseason. Rotation of Berrios, Odo, Kuechel, Pineda and Dobnak/Smeltzer/Thorpe/whichever is better would be, at least on paper, better than last year's rotation. Not a WS contending rotation, but good enough to win 95 games. An ace at the deadline+closer would push us over the edge.
  3. Count me as also surprised we're willing to go four years for Donaldson. Surely we can't outbid the Nats, and I'd guess Donaldson would rather go to the world series champs, but Rosenthal reported it yesterday, so that's definitely something.
  4. For Chris Sale?! I would trade Buxton and Royce in a heartbeat for Chris Sale. The contract would hurt a bit. I wouldn't trade Berrios just because we're creating another huge hole there, plus like you said Berrios is cheap, has been durable and eats innings. Sale has finished in the top five of CY young voting what, five times? Seven time all star and he's only 30. On a HOF trajectory. Larnach and Kiriloff would sting, just because we're going to need Larnach in the outfield before we need Royce up here, and I think Larnach looks like a pretty good bet to be Rosario-esque, at least. But they're still prospects. Even first round picks turn out a small percentage of the time.
  5. He's a much different pitcher than Rich Hill though, plus Hill pitched out of the pen early in his career. There's a reason why steamer, and rotoworld project Ryu pitching 170 innings in 2020 with an era in the high 3's. That's not worth 20 million dollars a year. I'd rather have Kuechel or Teheran, because at least you know they're going to eat innings.
  6. Take Tyler Austin off the list. He signed with a team in Japan. Pretty good deal for him actually, and I bet he'll rake. Who is this Kohl Stewart guy? He was a first round pick, and isn't that old. I'd take on flyer on him, I bet he'd sign cheap.
  7. 1. Ryu at four years is a dumb idea. 2. We cannot begin 2020 with Berrios, Odo, and three rookies in the rotation. Now that Madbum, Wheeler and Cole are gone, I predict the Twins will follow their strategy of pursuing a bargain deal for a guy whose ceiling is a #3 starter, either through trade or FA. This has not really worked out well in the past, (Phil Hughes, Ricky Nolasco, Ervin Santana) but that's what happens when you're unwilling to part with prospects and are unwilling to pay for a legitimate #1-2 starter.
  8. Ryu won the ERA crown last year. You don't think he's good? Madbum was better than Berrios last year in many metrics. You don't think Berrios is good either? Madbum would've led our team in strikeouts and innings.
  9. Cleveland is not conducting a fire sale. They clearly intend on competing in 2020 and 2021, which is why they wanted Clase and Deshields. Clase has Graterol-like stuff, just made his debut, and Deshields is 27. I agree that it's not a huge return for Kluber but Kluber is almost 34, hardly pitched last year, and is owed almost 36 million this year and next. He wasn't going to fetch what Berrios would fetch in a trade.
  10. I forgot all about Matt Moore. Had no idea he was still in baseball. He has really good stuff.
  11. Marwin's bat is not good enough for him to be your everyday 1B. I'd make an offer to Smoakie. He's a good guy and took good AB's against the Twins last year.
  12. Very, very low! I don't think we sign Ryu, Madbum or Donaldson. I could see Kuechel but that signing would raise my eyebrows due to our present infield defense. I'm holding out for Julio Teheran if Wes J thinks he can get that fb velo back up.
  13. Mike, don't you think the cost will be more than 60 mil? He's a former MVP coming off a great season. The Donaldson risk for me is the aforementioned clubhouse chemistry. I'm not sure he would fit in here. He might get pissed that Rocco imparts a (good) hands-off laid back vibe. Bumgarner is also intense, so not sure how that would work either. I wouldn't describe Garver, Kepler, Rosario or Polanco as intense.
  14. I just cannot see Madison Bumgarner signing with the Dodgers. No way the Giants let that happen. Bumgarner hates the Dodgers. Dodgers play the Giants on opening day. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see the Dodgers committing to that contract nor do I see Bumgarner taking it; if he gets an offer from the Dodgers Zaidi will make him an offer to return to SF. My Madbum predictions: 1. Atlanta 2. SF Giants 3. Angels 4. Twins
  15. Perez at $6 million with a club option for year two seems high. That's almost what his option was for the Twins for this year. Red Sox must think they can get him back to his May 2019 form.
  16. I can't imagine Madison Bumgarner pitching for the Dodgers. On the same staff as Kershaw. The Dodgers even play the Giants opening day. Doesn't Madbum hate the Dodgers? I can't imagine the Giant fans appreciating Madbum pitching for the Dodgers against the Giants either. No way the Giants let Madbum go to the Dodgers. This would be like Brett Favre playing for the...wait, nevermind.
  17. I absolutely don't want more than three years. I don't even want three, but he's going to get three from some team. 3/80 is the highest I would go, if the FO decides they can't get Madbum for whatever reason or don't want to go 5 years on Madbum. I'm very worried about how many innings Ryu would actually pitch in those three years.
  18. Out of curiosity I checked: Both Ryu and Bumgarner had one start vs NYY in 2019. Both lost and neither were very good. Ryu got shelled in August. Bumgarner lost but went into the 6th in April, gave up 11 hits though. Ryu had four starts in a row at the end of August and his first start of September where he was absolutely awful; the Yankees start was the second of four. These four starts inflated his ERA a full run, from 1.45 to 2.45. Kuechel in 2018 had one really good start vs the Yankees and one okay one. Out of these three, Kuechel has been the best recently vs the Yankees. Small Sample Sizes.
  19. People were talking about whether the Rays were trading Morton last year at the deadline, so I thought I'd throw it out there. The Rays were what, 15 games over .500 then? It'd be more of a salary dump than anything. I would trade them prospect position players for Morton if that's what they want.
  20. Maybe they think they can't win the east this year or get a WC spot after the yankees signed Cole? Rays have done stuff like this in the past. They have a bunch of young controllable star arms but not a lot of offense. Just speculating.
  21. Charlie Morton is signed to a two year/30 million dollar deal with an option for 2021. Nick Gordon and Rosario for Morton? Do the Rays want Rosario? Appears to be a fair deal on baseball trade values.
  22. If we're talking Twins and Rays, what about two years of Rosario for one year of Charlie Morton? According to baseball trade values they're not that far apart. If we throw in somebody like Nick Gordon it's very close. Not sure why the Rays would do that, but he is more $$ than Snell. Two years/30 million with a vesting option for 2021 as well.
  23. Not sure where to put this, but Danny Salazar is also a free agent. Is he done? Is some team going to take a flier on him for next to nothing?
  24. I'll take my chances with Madbum vs Cole in game one. As I recall, Kepler, Cruz, Gonzalez and Adrianza have hit Cole before.
