  1. Great deal for Gibby. I fully expect him to throw 185 innings with an era in the low 3's. I didn't think he would get 3/30. If he gets 3/30, there's no way in heck we're signing anyone other than someone like Homer Bailey.
  2. Weren't they good for like 3-4 years straight when Bonds came up but never made it to the world series? Then they shedded payroll and everyone knew there was no way Bonds was resigning with Pittsburgh.
  3. Very sad. I don't think the domestic violence/abuse problem is limited to MLB. Are incidents higher in MLB relationships than other relationships? Edit: I see the statement was made by Joe Biagnini's gf. I guess she would know more than me.
  4. Is Gordon not going to retire? I thought he said he wasn't going to play anywhere other than KC?
  5. I'd much rather have Moose in the clubhouse than Donaldson. Not sure he fits with Rocco's vibe here. Donaldson is kind of a jerk to everyone and is reported to be over the top intense. Rocco does not motivate his players that way.
  6. Everyone agrees on Jeter. He will get in. He benefits from the NY Yankee prestige. Larry Walker should absolutely be in. His numbers are eye popping even if you look at his splits away from Coors, and he was an elite defensive outfielder. He stole bases. Playing in small markets is seeming to hurt him. He was an elite five tool player. Helton's numbers are there, but the Coors effect is stronger, and he was a first baseman, which requires more on the offensive side to get in. Not a five tool player. You could make the argument for or against. Bonds and Clemens- heck no. If Pete Rose doesn't get in, they shouldn't either.
  7. I'd bring him back rather than platoon existing guys there (Marwin, Ehire, Astudillo). Astudillo should not be in the lineup regularly and Marwin's ops is okay for your utility guy but not a regular Ib. If we anticipate signing either a 3b or different 1b, then let him go, otherwise I'd rather have Cron starting opening day than Kiriloff, Rooker, etc. Rookies usually have growing pains. Most aren't like Juan Soto or Luis Arraez.
  8. I like Arraez but there's several guys on the Cubs I'd take if they really want Arraez. Contreras? Done. Darvish? Done. Bryant? Done. Do they want to shed Lester's salary? I don't really want Lester but if they throw in someone else... I'm sure it involves multiple pieces.
  9. This year I spent way less on Twins tickets and went to way more games. 50 bucks a month for every home game, general admission with the Twins Pass they offered in April. I don't even know how many games I went to, probably 35 or so. I had two, so went with friends, my wife, my Dad, my relatives, it was great.
  10. The solution is to use the system you use with runner on 2nd. Multiple sets of signs. Maybe you're doing first sign, second sign, third sign or last sign. The problem with doing this the whole game is the games take forever. If the pitcher shakes, the catcher has to do the sequence all over again. Then usually the batter steps out. Repeat several times an inning and you've got lots of frustrated pitchers and five hour games. Not good for anyone. And if there's a camera in CF, it takes significantly less time to figure out the "multiple sets of signs" system. And then you'd have to change the signs over and over. A runner on 2nd has lots to worry about (not getting picked off, what his 3rd base coach sign is, where the fielders are, when to run, etc.) and maybe one or two batters at most, plus he has to be clear on how he's relaying signs to the batter. With the aid of a simple app and a camera, you can nail the system within one batter. I really like what Matt Antonelli has to say about this.
  11. The problem with this is if teams expect every opposing team to have a camera or fan with a scope in CF, the games will be 6 hours long.
  12. Stealing signs off the pitching coach, or catcher, or pitcher, or 3rd base coach, or 1st base coach, with your eyes and brain, as a player or coach is totally legal and has been part of the game since baseball was invented. Stealing signs with technology and employees specifically tasked for stealing signs is cheating and wrong. Especially if the cameras or binoculars are in centerfield. It absolutely gives an unfair advantage to be able to focus on the catcher's signs the entire game.
  13. You don't know that. That is what Pineda's camp asserted. We just know that his suspension was reduced. So was Ryan Braun's.
  14. It's an effective masking agent, thus why it's banned. Surely you aren't naive enough to think he was only taking the diuretic.
  15. What I would like it to be: 150m What I think it will be: 116m I would take the under. I am expecting the Twins to sign somebody like Homer Bailey instead of someone like Zack Wheeler. We are not getting Cole or Strasberg. The Twins are not going to offer a 6 year deal at 30m a year.
  16. I would do Rosario + Gordon + Blankenhorn for one year of TB in a heartbeat.
  17. After reviewing the video footage, it's so obvious that something was going on. Even Farquhar caught it. The Astros couldn't have been that concerned about getting caught. Instead of banging on a trashcan in the dugout, why not have a small receiver inside the batter's helmet? Put it underneath the foam pads so you couldn't see it when Polanco loses his helmet. How about a vibrating receiver that looks like a heart rate monitor underneath the batter's clothes? There are so many possibilities that would be difficult to detect that make me think all teams are stealing signs with technology. There is so much money at stake. I'd love to think sign stealing with tech is not going on, but it's so easy to do with wifi and high speed pan and zoom cameras today. Heck, my wyze security cameras are 20 bucks each, they are pretty small, and they can relay what's going on at my house to any phone anywhere 24/7.
  18. Idk, Altuve swings at a lot of pitches outside the zone. Of course, he also has won an MVP and batting champs, OPS'ed over .900 this year, and plays second base, not a corner outfield spot. But his approach can be frustrating at times.
  19. We're obviously missing a top-end bulldog starter. Why couldn't we have signed Charlie Morton? The Rays have a smaller payroll than us; his 2 year 30 million deal looks like a steal right now.
  20. Heck, even the Rays signed Charlie Morton.
  21. Smeltzer was the only effective pitcher in an entire game against the Yankees not that long ago. Perez and Thorpe have both been awful. I like the pitching selections a lot. My only slight surprise is that Arraez and Ehire are healthy enough to go in this series, which effectively bumps Astudillo off the roster. You probably need a backup shortstop for Polanco and Rocco hasn't been comfortable putting Marwin there, so that was probably a factor.
  22. I think my MVP actually goes to Cruz, slightly over Kepler just because of Kepler's recent injury. "Player we would have least liked to lose for the full season" would be Taylor Rogers. Remember how bad our bullpen was before the all star break? He was the only consistent guy in the pen.
  23. Ha! True, but Hader really did struggle with control last night. The Zimmermann hit was super cheap though.
  24. If I've learned anything from watching baseball for 28 years, it's that baseball is weird and unpredictable. Exhibit A would be last night. HOF pitcher gives up three runs early. Brewers best reliever gives up three runs in one inning and the Nationals win. I could foresee a scenario where Berrios is dominant or where Berrios gives up 4 runs and goes 5 innings. Heck, I could say the same thing about Dobnak and Odorizzi. I could see us scoring 10 runs in game one and I could envision us scoring 2. Anything can happen in a 5 game series.
  25. Please, please don't resign Pineda. I want no part of a guy who couldn't even stay healthy while using PED's. Plus, there's the "let his team down in the postseason by cheating" deal that probably wouldn't be great for clubhouse morale. Yep, he's a good pitcher when healthy. You know who else is a good pitcher when healthy? Gibson. And Gibby is the opposite of Pineda in clubhouse presence and chemistry. However, we don't know if Gibson will ever be healthy again.
