  1. Completely unrelated from the thread, but I have mowed my lawn after dark with a headlamp before. I have also walked across the street to get my neighbor's mower and mowed my lawn with his mower (we're long time friends). Sometimes you need to get things done, so you do.
  2. We're not creating the market all by ourselves here because there are so many other buyers who need pitching too. The Cubs, Yankees, Astros, Dodgers, Red Sox, all need pitching help as well. At least we've added somebody. Yankees rotation is bad. Think about how scary good they'd be if they'd added Stroman, Thor, or Ray.
  3. Count me as one who isn't sure the Indians got better from this deal. Puig would have the lowest OPS in the Twins lineup and Reyes is basically a DH who has been worth .4 WAR this year and has Sano-like injury concerns. This will expose the Indians pen even more and their pen is not very good.
  4. I'm flabbergasted the Yankees haven't added starting pitching yet. Their rotation sucks and there are few holes in the rest of their team. I'm happy with this deadline if I'm a Mets fan. They got Stroman for hardly anything and clearly there is a lot of demand for Thor and Wheeler. They also rid themselves of Jason Vargas.
  5. My thoughts: So many teams have not done anything yet. There are a lot of buyers who haven't "bought" yet and a lot of sellers who are holding onto rentals for no reason. Seems like the Twins, as sellers last year, sold every half season rental player they could get anything for, plus Pressly. Why haven't the Mets, Royals, Tigers, Marlins, Reds, Pirates, Diamondbacks, White Sox, Rangers etc. sold their rental players yet?
  6. Please no. I don't want him for two more years after 2019. Hard pass.
  7. Agreed. The value on there for Thor is too high. I don't see him as multiple levels better than Boyd or Stroman, which is what BTV is doing.
  8. Totally agree. I'd even do Lewis or Kiriloff plus anyone else (including Graterol) in the organization for Thor. But not both. The pitching scenario you describe would work in September when the roster expands, but it's hard to carry that many "starting pitchers" now. Especially with Adrianza and Gonzalez and Arraez and Schoop all on the 25 man.
  9. Madbum is pitching really well. Course that makes sense for a team that has won 15 of 18 or something ridiculous like that.
  10. Maybe this will wake up the team and piss some guys off. You just got embarrassed at home and get swept by a very bad Mets team and lose three in a row. You've got seven more games at home against contenders. Better bring it.
  11. Conforto's catch in CF and Schoop's error ended up mattering a whole lot. Too bad.
  12. Zero percent chance, even if the Twins sweep Cleveland this weekend (more worried about the opposite occurring) Cleveland will still be very much in the Wild Card race. Plus, as others have stated, the Indians might very well be leading the AL central on August 1.
  13. Please win one. I'd be thrilled if we win two.
  14. You know what I mean. Banned=illegal. Just because EPO is legal to buy over the counter in Kenya doesn't mean it's legal to use for training for the NYC marathon. Whatever is banned by USADA or WADA is illegal to use in sports. They were using banned substances.
  15. Those in the cycling, airline and auto industries know the importance of aerodynamics. How aero a bike is is way more important than how much it weighs. The easiest way to get faster on a bike is to wear tighter clothing and get lower. No doubt the aero drag has an impact on baseballs flying in as well as out, though the aero drag becomes more noticeable on a ball flying 400 ft vs 60.5 feet. If there's a 2 percent change, that's a 1-2 mph difference in pitch velo but could very well be the difference between hitting the cf wall and going out. The changes to the ball in and of themselves aren't making the pitcher less safe, since the core of the ball reportedly is the same. I'd venture that the increased exit velo is mostly just dudes swinging harder to take advantage of the improved aerodynamics of the ball, combined with more pitching velo.
  16. Uh, because steroids are an illegal performance enhancing drug. There's many reasons why they're illegal. Google for yourself. Everyone is using the same ball, so the playing field is level. But more importantly, the ball itself isn't medically and physically harmful to every single user, nor is it morally wrong.
  17. Polanco is the easiest choice based on WAR, but I like to think about it this way: Which player would we LEAST like to lose? Answer: Taylor Rogers.
  18. Plenty of data on baseballsavant re defensive metrics, especially catcher framing. Castro is having a very good year. Garver is much, much improved from last year. Astudillo's strike rate is still higher than Garver's though. All three are better than average in pop time but Castro's arm is the best of the three catchers. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/catcher_framing Buxton is leading all of MLB in outs above average.
  19. Um, Mike Trout?
  20. Wow. This is really sad. Prayers for his family and the Angels Organization. He's my age and just got married last year. Tragic.
  21. Since Hunter Pence is injured but was elected the DH starter, that leaves a spot open for Cruz.
  22. Schoop is better defensively than Arraez and much better defensively than Sano. Arraez has options left. Sano only has one left, which hasn't been used this year. Are you saying you'd dump Schoop permanently because Arraez has been really good at the plate through his first not even 50 plate appearances? That's idiotic.
  23. Agreed. And I doubt the Nats 1. want to trade him, regardless of the return; and 2. want to trade him now when they want to contend in 2020.
