  1. I don't think the Red Sox would require much if we agreed to pay Price's salary. But I don't think they'll sell yet. And I'm not sure Falvey wants Price.
  2. May could be considered elite by the end of the year. He really had an untouchable stretch last year and has the stuff to back it up. He touched triple digits, completely changed his pitch mix and where he throws his pitches and it was like a switch was flipped. He has elite stuff.
  3. Agreed. I could see a scenario where we pick up a half a season SP rental at the trade deadline. Like Trevor Bauer, Marcus Stroman or Robbie Ray. The Reds and Blue Jays think they will be competitive in 2020 but I think not.
  4. I feel kinda the same way, except that I'm going to ST, so don't skip that. Can't wait for February!
  5. Signing Nelson Cruz absolutely helped the team identity. He "was the heart and soul of this club" in 2019- Derek Falvey. Cruz was our team MVP this year. He not only produced MVP type numbers but also had a huge affect on improvement from other guys, most notably Sano.
  6. What division will be worse though? Maybe the NL west, with the Dodgers good, the Padres upcoming and three bad but not terrible teams?
  7. Seriously though, if the Twins asked about Lindor, the Indians would say "Sure, he's yours for Royce Lewis and Luis Arraez." And nope. They're not going to trade to a division rival unless we dramatically overpay. No thanks on that. Story would be (theoretically) more available and cheaper than Lindor.
  8. Most of those teams are not going to want Rosario/Cave. Brewers certainly don't; they have Braun, Avisail Garcia, Lorenzo Cain and some guy named Yelich there already. I don't want the Twins to give up a lot of prospect capital to get Hader. He was bad half of last season. We would need to give up a lot to get him. I'm not worried about the bullpen. I'm intrigued most by Sale or Price but I doubt the Red Sox will sell either of them now, and probably not at the deadline either.
  9. Poor Kuechel. Do the Twins have the best home run hitting right handed lineup in the history of baseball?
  10. Heck. Yes. So pumped for spring training now. Went from "we will be a little worse than last year" to "lineup and infield defense should be as good or better than last year" with this signing. I think he will add some fire to the clubhouse as well. Much like Cruz did.
  11. Altuve is most definitely a free swinger though:)
  12. Nope! At least on paper. The rotation is worse and so is the lineup.
  13. Fun to think about, but he has no chance. He's been very good for the last decade though. I'm a young guy who's in favor of a small HOF and no PED users getting in. Not Bonds. Not Clemens. Not Cruz. But I still love Cruz and think undoubtedly he was the team MVP last season.
  14. Just sign Donaldson. Even if he only totals 13.5 WAR over 4 years it's a good value. He'll have 10 WAR in the first two years feasting on AL central pitching, then worst case scenario he plays some third and still is worth 2 WAR as a DH in year three and four. There you go. You also improve the infield defense for 2020 and 2021 and probably have the best lineup in MLB in 2020. Do it. The guy has been a 5 WAR player 6 of the last 7 years and would have been the best player on the Twins last year.
  15. He's not a good player when not injured. He's a great player. He won an MVP. He would've been the best player on the Twins last season. Go get him. 4/90 is a bargain. 4/100 is fair. Even 4/110 would be acceptable. He's been a 5 war player 6 out of the last seven years guys. For reference, that's better than 2019 Max Kepler. He was injured only in 2018. He's going to OPS .875 for you, play great defense at third, and he's a gamer. My only hesitation is clubhouse fit but I assume the FO has investigated that since they've already made a serious offer.
  16. The Nats have to be out with the Thames signing. They'd be over the luxury tax and would be in a 26 man roster crunch.
  17. It is more likely that Hill never throws a pitch for the Twins than it is he makes a start in October.
  18. Also notably, Atlanta's traffic is even WORSE than the Twin Cities.
  19. Some really good points above. I agree that the longer this plays out, the better chance we have. I also agree that the Twins are being used to try and get a higher amount from Atlanta. I think Donaldson is going to wait as long as possible for Atlanta to match the Twins offer. We're obviously not his first choice of where to play. We're probably third. But our lineup is better than the Nats and there's a DH in the AL, if Donaldson cares about legacy and stats. Does he care about assuredly playing in the postseason? The NL east is going to be very tough. Twins are in the easiest division in baseball.
  20. Somebody in one thread also was seriously arguing for signing Rich Hill specifically. I'm definitely not excited about Homer Bailey for the same price as Martin Perez 2019. Please give him a short short leash.
  21. Yeah, there were only two good teams. The first year and the last year of the decade. Yikes.
  22. It's gotta be Mauer. Nobody else won two silver sluggers. No one else had more than one all star appearance-Joe had three. Nobody else was on more teams in the decade. Everyone remembers his post-injury years (people are doing the same thing with Pujols rn). He is a hall of famer and the best pure hitter on every one of those teams. Dozier was good; Denard Span was good too.
  23. This is fun to discuss. Lots of 'pen depth, which can't be anything but a good thing. I think May, Duffey and Rogers will all be elite again. Their stuff is just too good. Once Duffey started throwing his curve harder instead of throwing a slow big hook it was extremely effective at fooling hitters. May needs to keep throwing his best pitch more than half the time- his fastball.
  24. Not much. About one-fourth of Jon Gray from the Rockies. Kiriloff for Gray would be more even. Also Cleveland's rotation is still way, way better on paper for 2020 than the Twins. Clevinger, Bieber, Plesac, Plutko, Civale, possible Carlos Carrasco. We will have Randy Dobnak, Lewis Thorpe and Devin Smeltzer in the rotation who have not even combined for 100 major league innings.
  25. I like it. Nice solid move that should really help the pen.
