  1. Course there were hardly any tests back in March. Now testing is widely available.
  2. You're going to take Cruz, our best hitter, out of the lineup? Garver himself stated he'd like to catch 40-45 games. I wouldn't want to take Sano out of the lineup either.
  3. Agree that Kiriloff has the highest ceiling of the options, including Marwin. Then Rooker. I think it's notable that Wiel received a lot of ST AB's. I recall he hit well in spring training as well but that probably means nothing. I doubt any prospects will receive regular at bats this season though, as others have stated. If that happens, there have been lots of positive tests and likely MLB would shut the season down at that point.
  4. I'm glad we have veteran guys with postseason experience and a history of doing well in the postseason. (Donaldson, Cruz, Clippard, Romo) This season will feel like a September game where the standings are tight, the whole 60 games. I like the Twins chances on paper, how can you not?
  5. On the impending free agents you mentioned, I don't think it has any bearing on extending Berrios. That will be as difficult to do as before. It may be easier to re-sign Odo, since he tested the market already and came away unimpressed, otherwise he wouldn't have taken the QO. There will be even more unknowns for him next offseason, no matter how he pitches in 10 or so starts. I would be shocked if Rosario is a Twin in 2022. Or 2021. It just doesn't make sense given that Rooker, Larnach, Kiriloff, and even Cave are on the roster. Rosario was barely above replacement value last year. Cave could give you that right now much cheaper.
  6. Revisiting this thread because someone on instagram, as well as the general consensus, says Scherzer should be in the HOF if he retired today. If he retired today I think he's an interesting Santana comp. Through their best seven seasons, guess who had the better era+? Johan. Innings pitched are almost equal, but Scherzer had a better WHIP and more strikeouts. I'll concede that Scherzer's resume is better, plus he has postseason cred. He also has higher counting stats overall but their peaks are not that different if you give Santana the 2006 Cy he deserved. Both 3 Cy youngs. Scherzer had 7 straight years of top 5 in Cy young voting. Johan had 6/7 years where he was top 7. Oh, and I agree- Scherzer should be in if he retires today. There's no way he shouldn't be in.
  7. Also, through 11 starts another Twins pitcher was 7-1 with a 2.95 ERA. His name is Martin Perez. I guess that's exhibit A of what a small sample size 60 games is and how regression to the mean may not necessarily happen in 60 games. Hey, maybe Luis Arraez will hit .400 for the season.
  8. Nope. He's only eligible for the final 21 games, and eligible for the postseason.
  9. If there was a Cy Young vote after 60 games last year Odo would've gotten some votes too.
  10. I was born in the 90's and had heard Griffith "was a racist" but hadn't heard about those comments until today, to be honest. That's pretty bad. It may have been poor judgment to erect a statue of him in front of Target Field.
  11. This one does too. https://www.startribune.com/recalling-ex-twins-owner-griffith-s-bigoted-outburst/257189521/
  12. Getting a lot of house projects done with not watching baseball in the evenings!
  13. The owners' hard line stance is paying for 50 games (or less) at prorated salary. (Roughly 33% of players' full salaries) The players' hard line stance is not playing more than 50 games at 33% salary. Their justification for not playing more games is that if they played 70 games, they'd be playing 20 games for free since the owners already offered 50 games at prorated pay. I don't see how this is solely the fault of the owners. It's a negotiation. By definition, that means two sides.
  14. I would go if the stadium was at 50% capacity or lower. Notably we do the Twinspass, so we have general admission/standing room tickets anyway, so if we do sit down it's not next to people. For what it's worth, I have had (limited as far as time, but close proximity) contact with multiple persons who tested positive for Covid-19 and I didn't get Covid. I also know a few people who have had it.
  15. Mauer should absolutely be in. Even if you're a "small hall" proponent. The peak is absolutely hall worthy with the MVP, three batting titles as a catcher and five silver sluggers. The longevity is just good enough; the 2000 hits is an important milestone. No other AL catcher won a batting title; Mauer won three. Only catcher to do it in the modern era period. Only five catchers have won an MVP. Mauer's HOF resume compares favorably/slightly better than that of Mickey Cochrane. He won't be first ballot, but he better get in within the first four years.
  16. I don't think we'll need an asterisk. I think people for years will know why the 2020 season was weird, like they remember why 1943-1945 were weird MLB years.
  17. I thought it was good.
  18. His breakdown video of Kepler hitting five HR's in a row off him is pretty good.
  19. Cy young voters didn't start looking at the non-win stats until later, the Felix Hernandez year when he won the Cy Young and went 13-12 on a Mariners team that lost over 100 games. Of course, the argument is that Cy Young was a stat accumulator who won a lot of games, and that historically "wins" mattered to a pitcher who was considered for the Cy Young award. I'd rather the award go to the best pitcher, not "best pitcher on a good team who wins 20 ish games or more."
  20. You've got three hall of famers, one future hall of famer, and possibly the best hitter to not be in the hall of fame. Can't argue with the top 5.
  21. Buxton is taking soft toss and doing tee work in the batting cage. Haven't seen or heard that he's taking BP or live BP yet. He's full-go on defense already. He should be ready to go by opening day I'd guess, which is consistent with what we've heard all spring. They seem to be taking it slow and methodical with him, as they did with Polanco and Gonzalez. He won't go until they're all sure he's 100% healthy.
  22. Long time youtube tv subscriber here. I'm ticked. I'm switching to Hulu live TV, which is more expensive and worse than youtube tv. There's only 50 hours of cloud dvr, which my wife is not gonna like. We're also cutting off three other people who use my family sharing with yttv from watching the twins by switching from yttv to hulu. Ridiculous how difficult it is to watch Twins games. This is 2020.
  23. What about Berrios, Hill, and Maeda? Odo and Berrios pitched well enough to win those two games last year. Everything else was a disaster.
  24. Exactly what Bauer was saying about marketing the players.
  25. OMG, it's almost like people watch more stuff on the internet and social media than TV!
