Best of luck to Jorge Lopez. I hope things go well for him and his family in Miami. Welcome aboard Dylan Floro. You are probably going to enjoy the defense playing behind you much more than what you had in Miami. I'd say something about the original trade but am expecting a slew of those comments. I am of the opinion that you don't win every trade and a higher percentage of buy trades flame out then sell trades. Time to move on.

Should the Twins Shop a Young Corner Bat?
weitz41 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It's tough to understand the Gallo signing when the same issue existed in November as we have now. Not enough AB's for very similar players...I get the playing for upside with Gallo but when you have Kepler, Larnach and Wallner..why?? All they accomplished was reducing the value of all three and they still don't truly know what they have in Wallner and Larnach. Something has to give, not sure what that is. It will be selling low (IMO) on Wallner and Larnach if either gets traded and unlikely to provide any meaningful additions if its Gallo or Kepler.- 54 replies

LF maybe? But my guess is 3rd with Polanco at 2nd against lefties. Trade deadline may clear it up some as well. My math says they have the full slot bonus pool available. I think the rule is you can go over you pool money at the cost of draft picks and/or international bonus pool money. But I think it's pretty limited at how much. Not certain on that but vaguely remember reading something about that.

It's been an encouraging week. Hopefully not a mirage due to who they played. Getting Thielbar and Steward back and at their previous production would surely add to the BP. Adding a RH OF bat and another BP arm in the next week, plus a couple more series wins would hopefully keep the offense rolling and as they say hitting is contagious. On a side note, Keuchel not opting out has me wondering if the FO is considering parting with a back of the rotation arm..Someone like Varland or Meada...

Keith Law's post-draft top-60 Prospects, is high on Twins
weitz41 replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I've been wondering about this also. Maybe Lewis rehab soon plays a part in it? Polanco now rehabbing and playing 3rd from what I read today. Other than that, seems like he has little to nothing to prove in Wichita...- 29 replies

Carlson is one of the two or three OF that would make sense as a guy who hits lefties really well. It's what we would have to give up that makes me wonder. I'd guess Varland, Larnach and maybe an A or A+ pitcher. I might be a bit off, just guessing. 1st we need to move one or both of Gallo/Kepler. Then sign me up.

Joe Ryan is the Twins' Most Valuable Trade Asset
weitz41 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Real world. Not a chance. Fantasy land... Soto and Tatis should cover it. Oh, and Padres pay 90% of their salaries. A couple years from now and on track for 100 loss season I could see it (a Ryan trade) happening, just not now.- 56 replies

Umm..No they shouldn't...He's going to get a large contract this off season. Why part with good to great prospects for 2 months or what we already have? Similar to the Goldschmidt fantasies...a small improvement over what already is there. Sure, the name is a YEAH! If you look at the Baseball reference numbers, you should go..IDK that's a lot for not that much of an upgrade...

No, I get it. But the whole covid thing makes me hold when I probably should fold. I think my point is AB or Pitches thrown should buy a little leeway with the older prospects. Most everything to do with covid and 2019 is or was beyond their control and I get the normal of age but like the Astros and their * it may be the wise way to go before you look at their birthdate. A little extra runway may unearth something worthwhile..More of a wait there may be something there then a these guys are really good.

There is such a thing as late bloomers in MLB. Brian Dozier comes to mind. Also, guys like the Nats Joey Meneses. My list is based on roster spots more than age. Helman {util), Williams (RH 1B), Keirsey (CF) and none are shoe ins just outside possibilities. A FA signing pushes any of them off my list.

Barring injury I think the Twins are in a decent place with starters for 2024. Lopez/Ryan/Ober/Paddack/Varland. You can bank the salaries of Gray/Meada/Mahle for roster improvements. Whether that's a free agent starter, BP or position players IDK. Polanco's return from the IL may determine whether he's on the 2024 roster or not. Celestino and Gordon I think will be on the 40 man. The rest are likely gone, some hopefully by August 1st. Wallner, Larnach, Martin, Lee will take some of those roster spots. Then there's possibly guys like Kiersey, Severino, Camargo, Williams and Helman. With that much payroll and this many position players vying for 26-man roster and 40-man spots to protect them from the rule 5 draft. I think it's the Twins are in a pretty good spot, with available payroll to add a high-end player or two. Just my 2 cents.

I think I prefer Carlson. I read somewhere that he was likely their 4th outfielder which may reduce the cost a smidge. The problem is what the Cards want in return. Pitching...Using BTV the easiest match is Varland and Festa. I have a hard time believing Carlson would be that much of an upgrade to part with that much pitching. Also, Edman has spent time in the OF and could be someone they may consider moving. Willi Castro is basically giving us the same output OPS wise as either, with more WAR.

I'm not ready to part ways with Gordon because of 91 total AB's this season. A bad month to month and a half. Relax... It will take some unpopular decisions to make it work but I don't see him going anywhere once healthy. I'd rather have both Castro and Gordon. Plus, the trade deadline is coming up which might change who are our bench players. Bench players 2023 a catcher, Farmer, Castro and Solano 2024 a catcher, Farmer, Castro and Gordon. That seems pretty solid to me.

How Much Does Sonny Gray Get Paid?
weitz41 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't expect the Twins to resign him unless he accepts the QO, which he won't. Depending on his health and performance the rest of the season. I think he's in line to get something like Bassitt's deal say 3/65. 25/25/team option for 15.- 22 replies

After that it seems like there's 15-20 players that either deserve a spot or are always injured and haven't had a real chance to play enough to have a strong opinion of. Likely relievers and older prospects I usually drop 10+ spots.

Rumor: Will the Guardians Trade Aaron Civale?
weitz41 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I'd guess Biebers injury makes it less likely they trade him. They've got just as much of a chance to squeak into the playoffs as the Twins with him on the team. They've got the prospect depth to pick up some line up help without dealing from their starters. -
Trading for Bellinger, what would you give?
weitz41 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Bellinger for Krilloff. No TY I believe the Cubs can QO Bellinger. If that is true, I think the cost will be two high for a 2-month rental. If I had to trade for him, I'd try to package a couple borderline 40 man/rule 5 guys (2024) if that isn't enough, I'd move on. -
Mariners 7, Twins 6: Sonny Gray Boils Down
weitz41 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Tough loss. Just keep scoring 6 runs and the rest will work itself out. Sorry Bux I can't even take you off the bench on my fantasy team right now. How about a 10-day breather?- 65 replies

The Twins Shouldn't Trade Sonny Gray Out of Panic
weitz41 replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Interesting. A should followed by a shouldn't article. 13 games to play before the trade deadline. Assuming the Twins play around .500 ball and another ALC team doesn't go on a 10-game winning streak. IMO there are too many good reasons to keep Gray on the team and way too many negatives to trade him away. -
The Twins Should be Shopping Sonny Gray
weitz41 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I live in Wisconsin and saw 1st hand what the Brewers trading Hader did to the casual baseball fans I work with and the team. A Gray trade would more than likely have a similar effect on fans and the team. Count me out on wanting the FO to do that to the Twins. For the 1st time in my memory, we have a pitcher who should turn down a QO and we are talking about trading him? Nonesense... Comp A should be a FV 45-45+ prospect, Comp B should be a FV 35+-40 prospect. That's a pretty good prospect for a team to part with for two months of Gray. Also, a hard draft pick to part with for the Twins. If the Twins are 5 back the last few days of July ok maybe if it's an overpay, otherwise I think you ride it out, QO and try to resign. Overall, I think the negative outweighs the positive on a Gray trade. -
I know most of us are down on the team. But 50/49 runs or 50/3 runs, a sweep is a sweep. Be happy about it for god's sake. Oakland actually has won 25 games including a few series against our AL central rivals. They've helped this team so far more then they have hurt it. Thx Oakland see you in the TC. Struggling Seatle next let's keep it that way.

It's an interesting set of circumstances. I'd prefer if they resigned him, and I don't buy he may retire as a serious consideration. With the money that was thrown around last offseason I expect someone will outbid the Twins. No, I'm not saying the Twins are too cheap. More of there are too many young teams that need pitching and have a lot more money to spend. Twins make the playoffs, QO rejected, he signs for 50+ mil elsewhere Comp A pick and Comp B pick for market size.
