  1. In non-pitching we rank number 19. So go around the diamond: Catcher 16 (-0.6) 1st Base 24 (-1.6) who wanted to bring Mauer back? 2nd Base 21 (-0.7) SS 24 (0.0) Despite the fact that Eduardo Escobar played there half the year and had 2.2 WAR while he did. What does that say about Polanco? 3B 23 (-0.7) LF 7 (1.3) There is no minus! Way to go Rosario. CF 17 (-0.3) RF 10 (0.3) Not great, but no minus. DH 27 (-0.8) My god, we can't even get a plus from DH? The time has come. 2019 is the season of the changing of he guard. Falvine now have their people in place. They are drafting and trading and signing their players. There are a lot of players on the current roster that are expendable, Just look at the numbers. Last season only Rosario was worthy of a spot in the lineup. (Except:Escobar and he was suppose to be a backup!) Berrios, Gibson and Odorizzi give 'em a solid 3 starters, and Rogers and May give 'em a solid 2 in the bullpen. So we got 6 players that are worth keeping at the moment. On a 40 man roster that leaves a lot of holes to fill. I'd give Polonco, Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Austin, Cave, Garver, Astudillo, Hildenberger, 9 of those spots. But for Sano, Buxton and Kepler 2019 is the end of the line if they don't improve to a Rosario productive level. Time is running out for them. The others are extended a longer leash due to last season being their first real chance. As for the Duffey's, Magill's and those that have failed at every attempt numerous times it is more than past time to cut the cord and say bye bye.
  2. I would prefer they get away from the 2 yard passes. If you can't throw the ball downfield then you should be able to run for 2 yards. Is Cousins a mobile QB? How often does he roll out to get away from a pass rush? Not very often....to never. How many batted balls did he have again last night? I didn't watch the entire game but I think he is over-rated and now, thanks to the Vikings, over-paid. True, a porous off-line doesn't help but will it ever be any better under Zimmer? He's a defense guy. Took a safety with the first round pick last year where it is clear they need help up front.
  3. I agree with everything Doc says as far as priority. 1.Bullpen, 2.Infield, 3.&4..Big Bat, 5.Rotation. Bullpen, would have to be the best and easiest area to improve with the number of Free Agent relievers out there. Infield, everyone is thinking of Iglesias but I'd like to see a bit of an upgrade there and target either Asdrubal Cabrera or Alcides Escobar instead. Offensively they give you a bit more IMO than Iglesias and shouldn't be a whole lot more expensive. A 2 year deal is all that's needed. Lewis should be here by late 2020. Big Bat, I'd lean towards Donaldson or Moustakas, that would provide some insurance at 3B if Sano is a bust again next season and also helps fill some DH time. I'd also let Grossman go and sign Michael Brantley to play RF. Again, 2 year deal should be plenty with Kirilloff due by late 2020. Kepler, Buxton and Cave can battle for CF. Whichever one is odd man out, well Sh!t happens. The other gets to be 4th outfielder. Rotation, I like what we have, believe it or not. Berrios, Gibson, Odorizzi locked in, Let Pineda, Romero, Mejia, and the rest battle for spots 4 and 5. I think signing any Starter via Free Agency is just too expensive for what you get. Look at how well Lance Lynn worked this year. Pffft...
  4. The Twins are also re-tooling. That makes no sense.
  5. I'm not sure what the fascination is with Marwin Gonzalez. Outside of his 2017 season he isn't anything special. I'd much rather see the Twins pursue a outfielder like Michael Brantley or even Nick Markakis. Offensively they bring much more to the table. At this point with Cave and the signing of Reed I would consider both Grossman and Kepler expendable if you bring in Brantley or Markakis. Again, Cave showed more offensively than either one. The only reason why I would consider keeping Kepler is if Buxton ends up a bust again this season. Don't get me wrong, great defense is important but does it really do any good to save a run or two when you yourself can't score? I'd rather win 5 to 4 than lose 3 to 1. There were WAY TOO MANY games this year where the offense was pathetic. If Rosario or Escobar didn't produce they didn't score. Need to think run production and manufacturing runs. Waiting for the 3 run bomb when you can't get anyone on base doesn't work.
  6. I like Dick and Bert. Morneau is good. Haven't heard enough of Thome. Hawkins is ok. Hunter not so much. I don't think Morris is interested in doing more than a few games and at his age, why? Please, no more Smalley. Really don't need someone to analyze every play in super detail like he does. If there is anyone that OVER-analyzes it is him. I usually hit the mute button when he is on.
  7. Actually Correa was drafted BEFORE Buxton, #1 overall in the 2012 draft. Buxton was #2. The Astros have gotten 3 pretty good years from Correa. The Twins have gotten 2 months from Buxton. That is one of the things that has been so disappointing about Buxton. 2019 will determine his fate. If he turns in a good FULL season we may have a star in the making. If he doesn't his career with the Twins may be over.
  8. I agree... Not the type of player we need. Spend $15M per year on 2 good pitchers and we'll be better off than $30M on a Machado.
  9. Three options here 1.He was drunk and didn't know what he was doing. Not good. 2.He was sober enough to know what he was doing. Not good. 3.It was completely accidental and not his fault. Since it happened at 3AM I'm guessing number 1 or 2. Time to rid themelves of his immense talent and lack of intelligence.
  10. What is Cody Christie smoking? Kepler was his choice for #3. Really?? Here's hoping Sano, Buxton, Cave, Polanco, Garver, and Kepler give him a run for Twins Hitter of the Year in 2019, and that Berrios gets CYYoung in the AL.
  11. I often wonder how much better Joe could have been if he would have taken a different approach at the plate. We can all agree that he knew how to work a pitcher into deep counts and then still get a base hit but if he would have went up to bat looking to hit the first good pitch that was right over the heart of the plate he very possibly could have hit even better than what he did. I watched a lot of games where he would watch 2 pitches go right down the middle and then have to swing at a pitch later in that same at bat that was not a good pitch to hit because he put himself into that situation. Yes sometimes he still got a hit but a lot of those times he didn't and sure as shootin he let the best pitches to hit go by without swinging. He was a really good player, the best hitting catcher of his time, but if you compare him to another great hitting catcher like Mike Piazza who hit for average AND power he doesn't come close.
  12. I doubt either one will be back in Twins Territory. I definitely hope they do NOT pursue Dozier. His career is pretty much over. Scooby would be good insurance but do we need him if we can find a mainstay at those positions. Surely Polanco is going to occupy either SS or 2B next year full-time. Scooby's going to be too expensive to just be a fill-in/backup/utility player.
  13. Awesome season for Berrios. Hope he continues to get better. Looking more and more like Cave could and should be the #3 outfielder with Kepler being the odd man out if Buxton can make a comeback and perform close to expectations. I think May is closer material more so than Hildenberger.
  14. Another Manager blunder? Kohl who was pretty much lights out, gets pulled at 75 pitches for Hildenberger who has been awful lately. I don't understand the decision.
  15. I think the biggest thing was everyone thought this was going to be a year where they challenged the Indians. Twins fans pretty much knew by the All-Star break that wasn't going to happen. It's tough to watch a team that has been so disappointing when the expectations were so much more than what we got. Like Patrick Reusse referred to, If "This is how we baseball" then we are in serious trouble. Falvine pretty much failed in their 1st attempt to build on what they had in their 1st off-season last year. Morrison, Lynn, Rodney, Reed didn't perform like expected but then neither did Buxton, Sano, Kepler, Dozier. Polonco was only around for half a season and by then the fate of the team was sealed. Santana never made it back, etc, etc.. Going forward no one on this team currently excites me other than Berrios and he hasn't exactly been lights out, especially in the 2nd half or against the better teams. I'm really not looking forward to next year with what they have. Major changes need to happen from the Manager all the way down to but excluding TC Bear.
  16. 1. Overpay Byron Buxton in arbitration 2. Sign or trade for a top three starter in the rotation 3. Extend Jose Berrios 4. Build corner infield depth 5. Clear 40-man flotsam 1. Wrong. Buxton hasn't proven he's a complete player. Right now I'd bank on Cave winning more games with his bat than what Buxton can win with his glove. 2.No. Tried that this year and we got Lynn version #2. You know what a #2 is right? 3.Yes, Berrios is the best young player the Twins have on their roster with the most potential going forward. Reward him and retain him for as long as you can. 4.Ok. I'm assuming Mauer retires. Put Sano and Austin in a battle for 1B/DH. Find a good 3B. At the very least bring back Escobar if someone else who is better is too expensive. 5. Shouldn't be a problem. Lots of worthless arms in the bullpen that can go bye bye, like Duffey, Drake, Belisle, Busenitz, Slegers, along with deadwood players like Petit, Gimenez, Granite, Field.
  17. If you can't hit, the best you'll be is a defensive backup. Hardly worthy of a #2 pick overall.
  18. I've seen 1 player in the last 2 seasons that the dynamic duo has acquired that actually looks like he might amount to something. Jake Cave. Everyone else has either flopped, hasn't impressed me much or is a prospect. Looking back, when Castro was their first BIG acquisition it should have been glaringly obvious that we can't expect too much from them. For those of you that think a player like Machado will ever come to a team like the Twins, you are living in a fantasy world.
  19. The Yankees should look back on tape at the game verses the Twins where CC Sabathia faced Jose Berrios earlier this year and notice that Sabathia was given strikes for pitches 6 inches off the plate and Berrios didn't get pitches as strikes that were ON the outside corner. Let's all cry for the poor Yankees!
  20. Where are the Twins getting it wrong? That's easy to answer after this season....... EVERYWHERE!
  21. Yes, the Twins are soooooo bad that even the website devoted to the team has to talk about one of the other sports teams in Minnesota.
  22. The way I see it, if Buxton would have been in AAA most of the season where he belonged, based on his performance at the major league level, this whole service time issue wouldn't be an issue.
  23. I am not sold on these 2 running this team. This year they took a good team and made them worse. I have yet to see 1 of their Free Agent signees make a difference for this team. Cave is about as good as they have done. In the meantime they have gotten rid of one of the best players they had, Escobar, so in reality they didn't gain anything.
  24. I agree. More Morneau and Hawkins. Less Smalley. I don't mind Morris. Hunter is ok. Smalley thinks he needs to analyze every play, hit, pitch, batter, swing, pitcher, throw, ball hop, twist, move, you name it. He earns the mute button from me when he's in the booth. Do we have a good SS in the minor leagues that can be brought up to play SS so we can move Polanco to 2B?
