  1. The last line in this post is so TRUE. However it would also be very safe to just say "The Twins will never out-spend New York, LA, Houston and Boston". So, winning is a moot point.
  2. This move ranks right up there with the Matt Belisle addition.
  3. Another article about payroll and the Twins. Who would have thought? The Twins even with the opening of Target Field have a limited amount of revenue. You said it yourself, without a big TV contract that's the way it is. So, the biggest question then is HOW DO THE TWINS GET A BIG TV CONTRACT? The answer is not just from winning but probably more so from fielding the best team that you can, every year. Why would anyone want to sponser them or any Team for that matter when you have money to spend to make your Team better and you don't even try? The Twins are notorius for being CHEAP! The top Free Agents always go somewhere else because the Twins don't commit to winning or even fielding the best team that they can.
  4. A trio of these guys (Sano, Austin, and Buxton) haven't proven themselves to be worthy of that spot in the lineup yet.
  5. New players in the prime of their careers! Did you count Jason Castro in his prime? You need to be more specific about "new players" and add "Top Free Agents" or "All-Star" or "Superstar"......... something that shows the player will make a difference and make the team a WINNER. Not just another ordinary addition.
  6. If they want to make a bid for another Championship, go after Machado, Harper, Keuchel, Allen, Ottavino and show other FA in the coming years that your Team is committed to winning and there is a chance to win a Championship or two or three or more if you come to Minnesota. It will open the doors to more top FA than you can imagine. It'll never happen!
  7. Won't play in Minnesota! It's not about the weather. It's about the COMMITTMENT to winning. The Twins don't do it. Period. Look at the signings they have made this year. Anyone really look like they are going to be around for a while and make a difference? No! Any impact players that were on the roster in 2018 that they have tied up for quite a few years? No! This organization hasn't committed to any player outside of hometown boy Joe Mauer since Puckett and Hrbek wore the uniform. What big moves did they make to bring us another Championship when they had the M&M boys and were riding the top of the ALCentral at that time? Pavano? Crede? Capps? Livan Hernandez? Craig Monroe? Rondell White? Sidney Ponson? Jeff Cirillo? Bret Boone? Terry Mulholland? Shannon Stewart? Pat Borders? Kenny Rogers? Rick Reed? Jesse Orosco? Were any of them a difference maker? No! Crap, bottom of the barrel, hope and a prayer, washed up players that didn't matter. It has only happened 1 time in the history of the organization that they got someone who made a difference. Jack Morris in 1991, and by 1993 they were back to losing for 8 consecutive seasons. No Committment!
  8. Probably the most notable is Dozier signing with the Washington Nationals for $9M.
  9. Yes, we take your scraps and try to win. This is so much like Terry Ryan trying to catch lightning in a bottle it reaks. I guess the more times/guys that are castoffs that get signed the better the chances are that 1 of them actually ends up making the 2 boys look like they know what they're doing. (As long as everyone forgets about the crap that they sign that don't amount to anything).
  10. Let's assume Slegers clears waivers, or maybe he doesn't and he's gone. Let's assume the Twins don't have a spot for him in the rotation. We don't have to assume Duffey has pretty much failed to be a reliable pitcher. So, what is wrong with giving a guy like Slegers a chance in the bullpen over a guy like Duffey. Talk is to move Romero to the bullpen. Slegers doesn't deserve the same chance? If Duffey takes the mound even once for the Twins in 2019 over giving guys like Slegers a chance this FO needs their heads examined. Might as well sign Belisle and BIg Sexy again.
  11. Chances are better that Polonco leads off the season with a hit and Cruz hits a 2 run homer.
  12. What will make this a really great signing is if Cruz takes Tyler Duffeys spot on the roster. Don't want to see him take the mound anymore. Hoepfully Bye Bye Duff.
  13. All the starters will be able to go 8 or 9 innings next year now that the Twins have mashers, Cron, Schoop and Cruz in the lineup. They'll be ahead by 10 runs in the 5th inning and should be able to coast to the 8th or 9th.
  14. If the last rotation spot is between Romero and Mejia then you'd have to go with Romero and put Mejia in the pen. Mejia hasn't proven himself to be durable enough to give 100 innings much less 200. I liken this to moving Trevor May to the bullpen. The Twins are notorius for moving struggling starters to the pen and then never, ever, ever, giving them another chance to be a starter again. If they put Romero there now, we'll never know if he could have made it as a starter.
  15. Only 1 reason why I'm glad they signed Cruz and that is hopefully he'll help Sano.
  16. quote from Thad Levine: "We're trying to make sound business decisions, and there's a lot of supply out there. There's a lot of players on the marketplace still. So we've got a lot of options we can continue to pursue." This means we are going to add pitching and we'll pick the best players that are left after other clubs take the cream of the crop. They'll be cheaper and it is all about making the Pohlads more money. If we win, great! If not, well we tried with what we were allowed to spend. Live with it! There's always next year!
  17. If Schoop has a good season going he'll be worth more in trade value by the July deadline than Kinsler. If Schoop doesn't return to All-Star form he's only signed for 1 year and they let him walk. He's a stop gap signing until Lewis arrives either way. Then Polonco will slide over to 2B. It's not rocket science.
  18. As for sustaining excellence, do the writers on this site actually think before they slap an article together? That's the most rediculous title I think I've ever seen on TD.
  19. I believe that was the plan last season with Morrison. How'd that work out?
  20. Could it be that both Buxton and Sano really aren't as good as anyone thinks they could/ should be? Just because you rake Minor league pitchers doesn't make you a lock for superstardom in the Majors. Buxton can probably run faster than anyone else in baseball. He hasn't proven much of anything else. Sano can probably hit a baseball just as far as anyone else in baseball. He hasn't proven much of anything else. I liken Buxton and Sano to 2 spoiled babies that think they deserve everything when they haven't earned anything. Which Twins hitter will be the next Carew, or Oliva, or Puckett, or Killebrew, or Mauer. I don't think Buxton or Sano have the right head on their shoulders (at this time) to join them.
  21. If it isn't in your contract there's not much that can be done. You want to come to spring training weighing 400 lbs then so be it, but there are always consequences going forward. I think Sano started to realize that when he got sent down to "A" ball Fort Myers last year. As for Mauer, he was a good catcher that could hit to the opposite field. Beyond that, he was average at best. He wasn't ever held accountable for anything that he could have improved upon and had the free pass because he was the hometown boy.
  22. Santana is too good for the Twins to pursue. They prefer guys like Cron, who are cheap. The trade of Goldschmidt is a perfect example why the Twins will never win another Championship. Other teams get the best players as the Twins settle for the leftovers that no one else wants. Dream baby, Dream!
  23. I'm intrigued by Johnathon Schoop. I think he could be a steal coming off a bad season and he'd fill the vacated hole at 2nd base at least for a year. He'd be a better risk right now than bringing back a Dozier or a weak hitting Forsythe. Maybe a return to the AL would fix his bat? Going after a LeMahieu or Lowrie would be a second option since Gordon is definitely not ready. If Schoop returns to his former self trade him at the deadline if you aren't in the race and then move Polonco to 2B and bring up Lewis to play SS. As for the starters I'd be ok with giving the cast of youngsters to continue their auditions for the first month or two unless the intention is to contend for the division in 2019. If the choice is to go for it then start trading some in a package deal with a Kepler or Austin and bring in a front line starter. I'd really like to see a hard push for acquiring Michael Brantley or McCutchen to play RF. With either of them and Rosario towards the top of the lineup along with Polonco you'd have 3 guys to set the table. I'd look to trade Kepler or use him as a backup to Buxton if he fizzles again. Signing Cron has hurt his value to play some 1B if needed. I'd rather see them use Cave as the 4th OFer than Kepler. Kepler probably has better trade value right now than Cave. As for the 5 guys you mention in the bullpen, Moya, Vasquez, Magill and so on... they are expendable. None are difference makers and I've definitely seen enough of Duffey forever. I'd rather see a Romero, Gonsalves, Littell or 1 of the other crop of young starters given the chance to pitch out of the pen.
  24. Let's speculate that the Twins become real players in the Free Agent market instead of pretenders. That is afterall what we were promised when we helped fund a new stadium for them.
  25. Extensions for Rosario and Berrios yes. Buxton and Sano no. I'm not sold on Kepler either. The Twins will do their usual. Sign the cheapest Free Agents they can get while passing over the true difference makers and they'll tell the fans that the window for this team will begin next season. Nothing new here.
