Article: We Are All Witnesses, Right?
rv78 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I really find this hard to believe. How can he have the best average in the league with RISP and still only have 39 RBI's? Yeah 39! I mean..... evidently it doesn't happen very often or he'd have more! So, you now what they say about small sample sizes.... It's not very indicative of how he really is. -

Was a big fan of Mauer early in his career. Since then I've come to realyze he's just a really good player, not great. I know he was a catcher and the toll on the body is tremendous but if you look at the numbers outside of his BA and OBP he's never had 200 hits or more in a season. Never had 100 RBI's or more, never scored 100 runs or more. Never carried his team to a Championship. All things Puckett did more than once. I cringe when people consider Joe better than Kirby. Will he make the Twins HOF? I'm sure.... Is he deserved of Cooperstown? No! -

Can we keep Berrios and just get rid of everyone else? I have no hope for anyone else on the roster. Even Rosario doesn't give you a good at bat everytime up. Let's blame Molitor and the FO for not doing their jobs but most of the problem is that these players just simply stink.- 35 replies

Article: Thrift Shop: 3 Sneaky Finds by the Front Office
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You have all 3 players over-valued based on a small sample size of performance. I highly doubt the Yankees will miss Cave or Austin yet you think they were great pick-ups? No one else could find a place for Drake but he miraculously becomes a fixture in the Twins pen? Sorry. When other teams castoffs are the better players on your team it only tells you what the current condition is of what you already have. Why do you suppose it is that certain opposing players always perform better against the Twins than they do against other clubs? Because of the level of talent they are facing. Period!- 101 replies

Agree with the comments about Adrianza messing up the play. It was an easy out at 3B or at the very least just tag the runner. As for the headline "bats slump in loss" don't you have to have HOT bats to have a slump? This team hasn't had hitting from more than 2 bats all season. The whole year has been a slump.

WARNE: Twins Should Target Yasmani Grandal This Offseason
rv78 commented on Brandon Warne's blog entry in BW on the Beat
Grandal? Won't happen. The Twins have Castro coming back and they're in love with weak hitting catchers. That's why Bobby Wilson gets in as many games as Garver does. For a team desperate for offense it still favors to play the defensive guys over the guys that can hit. This Team is backwards and won't win another Championship until it gets players that can hit. We need the 2nd coming of Kirby Puckett!- 3 comments

Article: Derek Falvey Discusses Returns, Future
rv78 replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I laugh at you guys that think the Twins can't afford to be burdened with long-term contracts to top free agents that go beyond the expected productive years of those free agents. If the front years of those contracts lead to a Twins Championship or 2 are we better off with that or would you rather continue with the current state of affairs of being a second rate team or worse, and never, or taking forever, to getting back to where this Team makes it's fans proud once again? I for one, would welcome a big dollar investment in a couple of top free agents if it gives the Team a chance to be truely competitive again, even if it means that for a few years afterwards we are dollars short of doing it again for a while. Isn't that why Target Field was built in the first place? To be competitive $$$ ??? -
Article: Departures Don’t Change Twins Future
rv78 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"There’s no denying that the Twins shed a lot of talent at the end of July, but the reality is that in September that same talent would have left and there’d be nothing to show for it." Totally wrong! They leave with nothing to show for it only if you let it happen. Re-signing good players (like Escobar) or extending their contracts before they expire is the way to build and keep a strong team every year. Doing that is NOT the Twins way.- 42 replies

Article: Dozier In Dodger Blue
rv78 replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He was a good player for the Twins, not great. I consider him a stubborn hitter that had only one thing on his mind at the plate and that was to pull everything to left field, hoping everything he'd hit would somehow end up over the fence. "Doubling down" with that kind of mentality doesn't make you a good hitter. He would have been way more valuable to the Twins and any other team going forward if he would have learned to use the whole field, driving outside pitches to right. 10 homeruns less a year but 50 to 75 points more on his batting average would have made him a more productive hitter. Especially since the Twins had him hitting in the leadoff spot for so long. -
Another lost season and lost assests. The Twins have become the AAAA for the big market clubs. Contending and competing are 2 different things and the Twins are only competitors. When the competing is over by July they trade away their assets for hope and prayer prospects that have proven nothing at the major league level they need them to perform at. Contending in 2020 will only happen if current prospects like Royce Lewis, Alex Kirilloff, Brusdar Graterol, Nick Gordon, Stephen Gonsalves, Brent Rooker, Trevor Larnach turn into what we hope for and progress enough to get to the majors by then because the current roster is incapable of doing it without a monsterous amount of help.

Article: GM For A Deadline, Part Two
rv78 replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Who really thinks this team can compete with what it has coming back in 2019? I don't. In fact, if they don't add significant pieces they won't compete for a long time. They can't even get their 2 main hitting pieces for the future (Sano and Buxton) to stay out of the minors. How long before Lewis, Kirilloff, Rooker and Larnach get here? -

Article: What Fernando Rodney Experience?
rv78 replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I will admit I was one of the NO sayers when it came to signing Rodney. He is currently at the top of his game or real close to it. It's an excellent time to trade him for a good prospect. The Twins are toast this season and even if they would somehow miraculously overtake the Indians they won't make it past the Red Sox, Yankees or Astros in the playoffs. Let's keep building! -
Article: The Rise and Fall of Miguel Sano
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
One can only wonder if the last half of 2017 and making the playoffs did more harm than good for the young players. Did they go into the off-season thinking we have made it? We are good and don't have to get better? Or was the last half of 2017 a fluke and these guys really aren't that good? It is safe to say Rosario, Buxton, Kepler, Sano, and Polanco are the cornerstones of the Twins rebuild offensively. Right now, it is in deep trouble. This is a good article on Sano, but Sano is just part of the problem. -

Article: TX 8, MIN 1: Circling the Drain
rv78 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Another game of mistakes and missed opportunities. Molitor never played like this. Why does he have his team playing like this? I would have Dozier and LaMarre both on the bench today and I'd tell them why they aren't playing. Sometimes you have to set an example. When you're struggling to score runs you just can't lose runners on the bases. Playing smart is better than playing dumb. We've seen enough dumb already for the entire year. I'd really like to see Gordon getting some playing time instead of Motter, Adrianza and Dozier. Not one of the three are relative to the Twins future, why are they being used over Gordon? Especially when none of the 3 are producing? Makes no sense. Hey Belisle, look out, I hear Matt Crapps is available! -
Article: Miguel Sano Optioned to Ft. Myers
rv78 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A move that was long overdue. Why does it take so long for this organization to make moves that are so obviously needed? Now do something about Dozier, Grossman, Morrison, Kepler, Buxton, LaMarre, Wilson and everyone else that doesn't know how to hit. WOW the offense on this team is really bad. -
Liked Molitor when he was signed on as Manager. Why not give him a shot, see what he can do? Going thru his 3rd season, I've seen enough. Too many mistakes. Last night was very indicative of that. He needs to go.

Article: Twins Sign Belisle: What Does This Mean?
rv78 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Maybe the Twins could bring in some guys like Torii Hunter, Justin Morneau and Michael Cuddyer to mentor these young players? EXCUSE me, Belisle? Brought in for Leadership? What a joke! My first thought is...... Why is a move for pitching made when it is the offense that continues to stumble? If not for 1 mistake pitch that Adrianza got last night the offense would have mustered a whole 1 or 2 runs again. Watching these guys hit is painful. A high school pitcher that throws 75-80 MPH can beat these guys. Had Gardy not done the Twins a favor and left Hardy in to pitch longer.... well? Who Knows?- 82 replies

Outside of Grossman's homerun, just another normal game for the Twins. Rosario, Escobar and Kepler(kind of) provide some offense and the rest of the lineup got their whiffs in. Why the heck is Dozier batting leadoff? Why is Sano in the lineup? Morrison is a bust. No catcher here. How in the world was this team expected to make it back to the playoffs? Escobar was suppose to be a utility player and he's one of your best hitters? Nobody can bunt. They won't try to steal a base. They don't even try to hit to the opposite field. Shouldn't they be taught that in the minors? How to hit to ALL fields instead of pull, pull, pull. Watch Rosario and Escobar. They are the only 2 players they have that are hitting and they are the only 2 that hit to all fields. Are the rest of the players, coaches included, that blind? Gotta love them Twins, for years they had an offense that could score a lot of runs, but they didn't have any starting pitching. Now that they have starting pitching, they can't score any runs.

Twins should call up Nick Gordon, yesterday
rv78 commented on GoGonzoJournal's blog entry in Minnesota Foul Play-by-play
Escobar doesn't belong in the outfield, anywhere. Funny how this organization won't bring up their best AAA players like Gordon when the player at that position goes down with an injury or in Polanco's case is suspended. Gordon should have been promoted as soon as they lost Polanco. Why is a backup/bench player, Adrianza automatically good enough to be his replacement? He's a utility player. That means he's played sparingly to give your regular guy a day of rest, not to be an everyday player. As for the lineup, Dozier and Sano should be hitting at the bottom until they start being productive. Problem is there are 5 other guys that belong there too.- 14 comments
