You should never use the word "break" in an article with Buxton. Just saying.

Totally agree with T.O. on this one. Rocco wants most everyone on the field to play multiple positions so he can platoon to death. Somewhere, somehow he thinks he has an advantage being able to move players all over in the field and use different lineups everyday never allowing his players to get comfortable with a position or a hitting situation. Then everyone else wonders why the Twins are so bad defensively or can't hit at critical times. George Brett once said, being comfortable is the most important aspect when it comes to hitting and fielding, and you only get that by getting consistant playing time at 1 position and a consistant everyday lineup. By Rocco doing the opposite, and whatever advantage he thinks he gets by platooning, it falls short of Bretts advantage on a regular basis.

I tend to look at this off-season as a success. Falvey didn't bring in washed up veterans to take playing time away from the young players that are already on the team. The saying usually goes, "addition by subtraction", and less washed up veterans makes for a solid addition.

I'm pretty sure Correa was "ready to go" last year too. Health in January, February and March doesn't mean anything when April, May, June, July, August, September and October gets here. I really think the regulars need to be rested during all of spring training and then Rocco needs to give them more rest for at least 4 games a week during the season to keep them healthy. Even with a schedule like that Buxton will hurt himself getting out of bed or tying on his shoes at some point during the season.

The biggest difference is that the big money teams or "elites" as you like to call them, can buy that proven player and teams like the Twins have to bank on a player having a career year or the Hope and a Prayer method. Back in 1991 the Twins went and got a guy named Jack Morris who carried the team to a Championship. Now, not only can they NOT afford to acquire someone like that, as the big market teams gobble them up, but the way theprices on all the other players get raised by what they do, makes it even harder for the rest of the teams to even be able to afford the average players. Something has to be done or eventually we'll have about 6 or 8 teams that will be the REAL major leagues and the rest of them will all be AAAA teams with no hope to ever reach a World Series.

I've been thinking their competitive window is just a year or two away for a long time now. Then after the season is over I think the same thing again. I've since come to the conclusion that it will never get here with the likes of Falvey, Rocco and Company running the team. Ownership hasn't helped either. Bringing in washed up veterans like Gallo and Margot and injured pieces like Mahle and DeSlafani continually year after year do nothing to improve the team and ONLY push things down the road another year. It's time to try a different method and that is to let the young guys play and develop so you actually know what you have for the next season, and the season after that and so on. The older I get, every year that goes by, I sense I'll never see another Twins World Series Championship. Baseball needs to level the playing field amongst ALL the teams so the big market teams can't spend millions and millions more than small market teams. Or maybe I just need to be glad I witnessed the '87 and '91 teams because it will never happen again in my lifetime.

Should Byron Buxton Fear the Swing Speed Aging Curve?
rv78 replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Just the other day I thought.......... It has been a while since we had an article about the great Byron Buxton. Bingo! No worries with Bat Speed for Buck. It means nothing when you are injured....... which is the majority of the time. Next article please........- 19 replies

Do the Twins Already have their Lefty Bullpen Arm?

Exploring Two Trade Scenarios for Willi Castro
rv78 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the Twins are going to trade their best player then they need a bigger return than what you propose, unless you are of the faith in dumpster diving like the "organizations lofty standards" have brought in lately. I don't need to name names. Some of the sarcasm here is really funny. -
Irony = If the best LHRP out of the bullpen for high leverage situations is Theilbar 2024 then the Twins are better off without that LHRP.

What Is Carlos Correa's Mindset Right Now?

What Is Carlos Correa's Mindset Right Now?
rv78 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
At this point in the off-season, with all of the uncertainty regarding the sale of the Twins, who the buyer will be, and what the future may hold, the last thing on my mind is what Carlos Correa is thinking. One thing I'm sure of is that he has a smile on his face every time he checks his bank balance. Which raises one question.... How many decent players have the Twins had to turn away from because they gave him a huge contract, leaving them with no money to improve other areas of the roster? Worst amount of dollars spent on any player they have ever acquired. Ever. -
2. Managing Player Workloads: The grind of a 162-game season takes its toll, especially on veteran players. Platooning offers built-in rest days for players, keeping them fresh and reducing injury risk. Players like Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton bring immense value to the Twins, but injuries have sidelined them for parts of the last two seasons. Veteran players need rest days to avoid extended IL trips, and sitting the team’s stars against tough right-handed pitchers could help them manage their workload. HUH? 2 players that have probably missed the most time the last 2 seasons due to injuries that actually have SCHEDULED off days and you are saying they would benefit from sitting? Rest has never been proven to prevent injuries and Players like Correa and Buxton prove that.

3 Twins to Watch for Potential Regression in 2025
rv78 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"Smart roster management and a deep bench could help the team weather any storms that come their way." Well, with Rocco providing the management and the over-use of the bench in 2024, platooning at every whim, we know how good this worked in 2024.- 41 replies

There is so much that can be read into this trade. As suggested, is this a footnote to a Vazquez trade? Even if he is a MiLB filler for the Yankees and Boston, Falvey probably sees him as a MLB backup. Afterall, the Twins are becoming just another AAAA team playing against the big boys that spend mega millions every year. That perrenial contender status that we were led to believe was their goal when Levine and Falvey were hired has become a thing of the past. You don't acquire a $30M shortstop and then abruptly cut payroll a year later. That's a sign of changing course back to being a pretender, not a contender. When you can't compete with the big market teams for marque players in MLB you try to improve your minor league teams. That way it looks like you are doing something, at least enough to maybe save your job.

Are Cubs and Twins a Good Match in a Willi Castro Trade?
rv78 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Then come up with a player from the Cubs that is worthy of a trade for Castro. That really shouldn't be too "tough". Most of the players in these articles seem to be from throwing darts at the other teams bench players or AAAA. Is that because they too have no faith in this FO to make good trades and are so use to the dumpster diving that those are the only players that are expected to be traded for? I have no problem with acquiring a player like Canario but common sense tells me you don't trade someone with Castro level talent for him.- 39 replies

Are Cubs and Twins a Good Match in a Willi Castro Trade?
rv78 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is this a serious article or a joke? I'm not trading a full-time, play almost anywhere, MLB player like Castro for a 21 total games MLB player named Canario or any other 21 game MLB player. 21 games doesn't prove anything at the major-league level regardless of how good the numbers are. The last good player the Twins got in a trade was Pablo Lopez and it took their best player, Luis Arraez to bring him here. If I'm trading my best player again, then it has to bring someone equally as good in return. Canario for Castro is laughable.- 39 replies

The problem with "safety nets" is that Rocco doesn't see or use them that way. Once on the roster, he sees them as an intregal part of his platoon strategy and the everyday player who needs to be playing everyday becomes a platoon player as well. I hate to say it but the "safety net" needs to be a AAA player that isn't part of Rocco's platoon strategy.

You definitely got the, fit right in with the Twins part correct with Laureano. He's had 1 good full season in his 7 year career. Exactly what the Twins look and hope for in a player. Which version will they get? His usual Oakland/Cleveland version or the Atlanta version. Odds say it'll be his Oakland/Cleveland version, which I'd pass on pretty quickly. As for France, you nailed the reason why he wouldn't be acquired by the Twins. He'll be too expensive. Adding either one really doesn't move the needle. I'd much rather see the players already on the roster get MORE playing time, not less.
