  1. What's with those cutout figures of Willie Joe Garry Jr. (well, at least his head) that fans are waving in the outfield? I've noticed that in a couple of clips when he has either homered or drove in a run. Has he turned into some sort of folk hero there in Wichita? It's fun to see, but I was wondering how long this has been going on?
  2. Good to see Dobnak back in a groove again. Giving up 2 homers wasn't ideal, but as you noted, only one walk. Still hoping we will see him across the river again one day soon.
  3. I fully recognize and appreciate your reference to that immortal "lost shaker of salt" !
  4. Well, Baltimore seems to find ways to utilize and revitalize their pitchers pretty darn well, Of course, we've all seen how good Cano has been this year, but they also picked up Shintaro Fujinami from Oakland before the trade deadline. Looked like an odd deal; Fujinami had been rocked in the Oakland pen and had an ERA of about 10.00 at one point. Yes, that bad. But the Orioles saw something in him and Fujinami has turned into a good bullpen piece, sometimes pitching more than an inning. His ERA is now down to about 7.50 on the season, but all of a sudden he looks like a key piece in their pen. Hey, maybe they can work some magic with Lopez again. At least he'll be familiar with the organization.
  5. I still don't know what to make of Floro, and not even sure if we would want him in the bullpen come playoff time (if in fact we have some healthy arms to replace him), but I'm totally puzzled how Lopez could do even worse in Miami, I really thought he would flourish with that team, but sadly it hasn't happened.
  6. All this excitement and speculation could very well end up turning into absolutely nothing for the Twins. Maybe, just maybe, a serviceable outfielder or pitcher will remain unclaimed by the time we have our chance, but I'm not getting my hopes up, or even very concerned at this point if we pick up someone or not. Hopefully, some of our rehabbing players return soon and are enough to ensure us of a decent playoff run.
  7. we can all justifiably moan about the bullpen in that game, but on the other side of the coin we only managed 4 hits. Not going to win many games with an offense like that. And oh yeah, Correa hit into another double play! At least he's leading the league in one category this year.
  8. Good article! My first thought: he could be the reincarnation of Ron Hunt, who used to hold the record for being hit by pitches. But Ron Hunt was later "lapped" by guys like Craig Biggio and even Don Baylor. Nevertheless, getting hit by pitches DOES require a certain amount of extra effort!
  9. I was thinking more in terms of this year's roster, but yeah, Urshela was especially good value last year, and Sanchez did an average job (although he seems to be doing better in San Diego this year). But I don't remember Hidalgo at all. Which level is he currently playing at?
  10. Yeah, we have nothing to show for it, and it still looks good!
  11. Man, I had forgotten all about Palka after his brief time with the White Sox. Thanks for the update.
  12. A disappointing loss, but at least Royce Lewis is still in a groove, and how about Michael Taylor for a career high 20th home run? Never saw that coming when we got him.
  13. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay is still using Zack Littell as a starting pitcher. He hasn't been lights out, but holding his own in that role thus far. Somehow, the Rays keep finding ways to get the most out of their players.
  14. I would feel comfortable with either Lopez or Gray starting the first game. But after that, it's a roll of the dice. I would have penciled in Maeda for the next spot, but he didn't look so sharp in yesterday's game, but hey, that's just one game and he's been very good for the most month or so. I wouldn't rely on Ober at this point, so I'd stick with Ryan, and just maybe, depending on how he looks for the next month, you might consider Keuchel. He's got the playoff experience that might make the difference in a series.
  15. I've already read a few posts where people are assuming they will send him back down and call someone else up. Really? I hope that Funderburk actually stays on the team and shows that he's more than a one-game wonder.
  16. Good observation about Solano. He has been a steady and very effective contributor this season.
  17. Yes indeed. Royce Lewis is suddenly our secret weapon ... well, maybe not much of a secret at this point, but a very effective one.
  18. That was a good decision. I think Ober either needs some rest or just keep him on the farm for the rest of the season. As it's been noted, he's already pitched more innings this year than he has in previous seasons. And it's cool to see them call up Funderburk, and doubly cool to see him perform so well in his debut.
  19. you got that name right. I used to watch Mark Funderburk mash homers for Orlando when he was on the AA team. He eventually made it to the big league Twins, but not for long.
  20. Well, the clock is ticking! I think it would be more realistic to expect Stewart or Alcala to make a September appearance, but to my knowledge Paddack hasn't even thrown anywhere this year. But hey, any able arms are welcome at this point!
  21. Excellent article. I love stuff like this, and happy to see Dobnak contributing to a good cause. Still hoping he can get the groove back and pitch for the Twins sometime in the near future.
  22. Looks like Brock Stewart may still make it back next month. A recent article gave Sep. 10 as a possible return. https://www.twincities.com/2023/08/26/injured-twins-reliever-brock-stewart-hopes-for-return-around-sept-10/
  23. I had almost forgotten Evan Sisk being one of the main players we traded to KC for Michael Taylor over the off-season. Surprised that KC hasn't called him up during the season, or did they?
  24. one of those hits was this massive tater crushed by Willie Joe Garry Jr. Happy to see Willie Joe playing well at the next level. And kudos for using the word "tater". Love it!
