    The White Sox could indeed be the surprise team this year, at least one that could play .500 ball. I don't think they are ready for the playoffs by any means, but I don't think they'll be quite as bad as they were last year. I still can't figure out what's going to happen in Detroit. My guess is that they are cellar dwellers this year, but hey, it's baseball and anything can happen. Which is as it should be!

    The starting rotation as it stands right now is cause for concern. Not much depth or flexibility. Obviously. another "quality" arm in the rotation is needed, but if that fails, the front office needs to get creative and maybe take a flier on one of these "Lesser" names, but one that might put together a decent season like Vargas did for KC last year. But man, let's do it soon. Spring Training is just around the corner!

    Neither Graterol or Baddoo made any of those lists? Somewhat surprising not to see either player listed at least on one list. Yeah, these lists are all mostly speculation and half-baked "expert" analysis, but the overall picture for the Twins is looking promising, regardless of the fact that some of their most talented prospects didn't even make any of the lists.

    Man, some fun stuff in that article. Very well researched too! Good to hear that Caleb Thielbar is still pitching, although now with those hated Tigers!

    Fascinating stuff. Thanks for a great article. Man, the draft can be such a crapshoot, huh? All the excitement over a "great" prospect like Dave McCarty, who ended up being such a disappointment. I also remember the Braves drafting Mike Kelly, another "great" college player very high in the draft (number one?) about the same year, and he had an even more unspectacular career. Where's that crystal ball when you need it?

    It was already looking like a stretch for Kinley to make the team out of spring training, but with the addition of the three veteran pitchers in the bullpen, plus the young arms we have in the high minors, having him around makes less and less sense. Like Otwins said, Kinley is the sort of player you want to root for, but it's hard to see a fit for him on the staff, especially since we'd be obligated to having him on the roster all year. Seeing as how the team looks like it has hopes of contending this year, how do we justify keeping a guy like this --- somewhat of a "project" --- around all season?

    Gotta agree with that assessment. Boasting about "stealing strikes" could indeed come back to bite you in the you-know-where. But I also agree with the other posters: an interesting, delightful article!

    I love this "Get To Know" series of articles. Thanks for another good installment, Seth. Bechtold strikes me as one of those players who will end up being a solid addition to the organization. I'll be rooting for him.

    Indeed, this is fun stuff to read. Thanks for the research and for posting it. Brings back lots of fun baseball memories. Sam Mele! And I think I had one of those Dick Stigman baseball cards at one time!

    The idea of using a clock to time the seconds between pitchers or batters make me shudder. No, no, no! For me, one of the great things about baseball is that they do NOT use a clock of any sort, Keep it that way. But yeah, the overall length of the games is a concern, especially in these time-pressed attention-span-deficit times. I'd opt for reducing or curtailing the stepping out of the batter's box stuff, and also the visits to the mound, by other players or coaching staff.

    I'm eager to see if Rooker can sustain the hype and hope at the next level. Very intriguing power. But the player that I'm most excited about, only from reading about him, is Akil Badoo. Hey, all of a sudden there are a LOT of very good prospects in the Twins system to get excited about!

    I'd love for the Twins to sign Darvish, but the idea of a 6-year contract --- especially for an aging pitcher with TJ surgery --- makes me very, very nervous!

    Like so many others have already said, Boshers should be the first man overboard. And at this point, keeping Kinley around strikes me as a head-scratcher too. All that aside, I'm starting to think that maybe a trade of some sort could be in the wind.

    Totally agree on the multi-year thing, and also the good deal aspect of this signing. In fact, I like getting Reed much more than adding Rodney. Seems like a better fit for the club's needs.

    From what I've been reading, Brusdar Graterol could be a potentially powerful part of the rotation in the near future. Your other picks "on the verge", Enlow and Leach, might also be mainstays. For some reason I think Gonsalves will end up being a disappointment. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm just not that excited about him. Count me a big Thorpe fan, though!

    Very interesting article on a subject that deserves more attention. Being from the o ld school of fans, I'm still trying to get my head around all these new stats, or sabermetrics, or whatever they are being called these days. BsR is a new one for me! But yeah, these sort of running skills are crucial in creating runs, or the opportunity to score more of them. Great to see the Twins scoring high in this area.

    Another interesting article, much appreciate as always. But I have a suggestion, or rather a request: Is it possible to include captions beneath the photos, telling us who exactly is pictured? I honestly have no idea who some of these players are!

    Count me as one that was also surprised and disappointed that they selected Lewis with the first pick. But ... after reading more about him, and factoring in the uncertainty of the pitching prospects in the top five, I think it was a good pick. Plus, the other picks the Twins made in the early rounds look like good ones too. Astute, canny, smart, or whatever you want to call it, I think it was an impressive draft. We all know the results are still years away, but I'm optimistic.

    It was certainly an odd mix of first-timers on the roster this season. Not all of our favorite prospects were called to the show, but that's no tragedy either. Of course, many of those decisions were based on injuries, the need for a 26th-man, and other factors, so it's all understandable to a certain degree. Looking over the list, didn't Melville also make his major league debut this year? .

    An interesting, creative idea! Duda has never been one of those "wow" players that you get excited about, but as your stats you posted show, he's capable of putting up some very respectable numbers. He's certainly much young than Napoli, and less injury prone too. But as someone else noted, he doesn't seem to be the right fit for what the Twins need next season. Plus, they just signed Brock Stassi to a minor league contract, and he's a guy who is very good with the glove at first base if the Twins are looking for a backup at some point.

    So very true! I vividly recall all the clamoring for Sipp and Bastardo that year, and look how that worked out. Or rather how it didn't. Signing free agent relief pitchers can be such a gamble. I'm more comfortable with what we have in the system already. On that note, what is the consensus on Trevor May for 2018? Will they try him in the bullpen or give him a shot as starter again?

    Ah, the infamous Ron Davis syndrome! Maybe not as horrible as Steve Blass Disease, but nevertheless an ailment that makes longtimeTwins fans cringe! That aside, good points about Rodney. I'm not giddy over the signing, but hopefully he'll be a stabilizing presence in the closer's role. Then again ....
