    I think it's gotta be a pitcher. Pressly or Berrios (if he has a string of quality starts next month) would be fun picks, but as Cody and others noted, it could end up being Fernando Rodney, mainly because he's the closer and is racking up some saves.

    Nick Anderson continues to impress for the Red Wings. As Steve mentioned, his ERA is now at 1.16. Wow! Any chance he could be called up this summer if the Twins need an extra arm in the bullpen?

    There is also John Hicks with the TIgers. Although after the Twins signed him a few years ago, I don't think he ever played a regular season game for the team. For Detroit this year he has also played first base. Now batting .279 with a .326 OBP -- but has 5 home runs and 17 RBI already.

    Overall, I'm pretty happy with this pitching staff. The starters are reliable for the most part, and even Lynn looks like he's shaping up. If Santana is remotely like his old self when he returns, that will inspire a lot more confidence. And hey, I like this bullpen too.

    Let Garver play more and take his lumps, or watch him show some improvement. Meanwhile, I also vote to give Astudillo a chance. After the Castro injury it's tempting to want to go out and find an upgrade at catcher, but I'm still not confident enough that the Twins are going to be playoff contenders this year. If someone good falls into our laps, take it, but I don't want to see any foolish trades at this point.

    Anemic batting about says it all. I think it may be to to shake things up again. Buxton can't even bunt or walk to get on base and show his speed. Once again, the strikeouts are adding up for him. What's the answer? Or is there one? Except for Rosario, no other hitter is in a groove right now. Another week of pitiful batting like this and I'll be adding to my profanity vocabulary.

    I'd like to see more season stats posted too. I'm too lazy to go to other sources for that information. If TD could include more of those stats with these minor league wrap-ups and articles that would be terrific.

    Good to see someone in the organization starting to hit home runs again!

    He's not a prospect, but I wonder if Brock Stassi could be called up in the near future ... but only if Mauer spends more time on the DL than expected. Stassi is a good fielding first baseman and spent some time with the Phillies last year. Not a youngster, but not yet over the hill either.

    I miss Colon too. Not saying that I think the Twins should have brought him back --- too many other and potentially better arms in the mix --- but I did enjoy seeing him in a Twins uniform last year. Colorful players like him are one reason why I still love baseball.

    Fernando Romero and his innings limit might end up being a major consideration if he keeps pitching well over the next two months.

    Good overview, thanks! Looks like a fairly deep pool of talent in the draft, even as far down as where the Twins will be picking. I noticed one player, Logan Gilbert, from Stetson University in Florida. As you noted, that college also yielded Jacob deGrom and Cory Kluber. And if you go back about 63 years ago.... my father was also an "ace" pitcher for Stetson. Family legend has is that the Yankees drafted him, but he decided to finish college and never pursued baseball any further. But I keep thinking: what if?

    A bunch of players are playing well and looking like they deserve looks at the next level. Lewis, Kirilloff, and Gordon are the obvious stars playing well, but you could cite Wade and a few pitchers too. Could be an interesting summer of promotions.

    Not much more to say; getting released is one of those unfortunate aspects of baseball life. But injuries such as the ones Hughes had to deal with are extremely difficult to recover from. Alexi Ogando, another pitcher who once showed lots of promise and got derailed by arm trouble (he was an All-Star for Texas back in 2011), was released by the Cleveland organization this week. He's 34, a few years older than Hughes, but earlier in this decade he looked terrific..

    Yeah, that Brewers bullpen is "nasty" indeed. Lots of press about Hader this season (and he struck out 6 Twins batters in 2.1 innings yesterday) but Jeffress has also been formidable; another scoreless inning yesterday with 2 KO's of his own, and an ERA now sitting at 0.36 !!!

    And, as someone posted last week, there is also the impending return and Minnesota debut of Michael Pineda sometime this summer. Hope that Santana gets to the mound before that time, but who knows at this point. Like the decision with Trevor May, will the Twins stick Pineda in the bullpen to start with, or give him some starts?

    Was there a reason that Buxton didn't start yesterday, other than the fact that he can't buy a hit this month?

    I saw the video of the Palka triple, but I missed the other ones. And did you see Pedro Florimon's home run for the Phillies? Two in one week for him!

    Very encouraging starts by those young pitchers. Hope they can "build on" those performances and gain some confidence, in addition to that much valued experience. As others have said, I'm still not sold on Kohl Stewart's future as a solid MLB pitcher, but games like the one he just had give me more reason to hope.

    Obviously, the Twins need to go out and find the best darn pitch-framer who is available for a reasonable price! Then again, we can suffice with Garver and spare parts (Wilson, etc.) until August rolls around and we're still in this thing or not. If not, no reason to trade good prospects or sign unnecessary scrubs.

    A shame about that errant Morrison throw, but at least Odirizzi pitched well and struck out a few batters.

    His first two pitches were 100 mph. Wow and whoa!!! I can't remember the last time a Twins pitching prospect was throwing with velocity like that. Exciting stuff! Let's just hope he remembers where the strike zone is located.

    Always very sad to hear news like this Sure, I remember the Quilici days, both as player and manager. I recall seeing him in Spring Training when the Twins played games in Orlando back in the early 1970s. One thing that surprised me that Seth wrote: I didn't realize that he was only 33 years old when he became the Twins manager. That's mind boggling!
