  1. Was there a reason that Buxton didn't start yesterday, other than the fact that he can't buy a hit this month?
  2. I saw the video of the Palka triple, but I missed the other ones. And did you see Pedro Florimon's home run for the Phillies? Two in one week for him!
  3. Very encouraging starts by those young pitchers. Hope they can "build on" those performances and gain some confidence, in addition to that much valued experience. As others have said, I'm still not sold on Kohl Stewart's future as a solid MLB pitcher, but games like the one he just had give me more reason to hope.
  4. What's Oswaldo Arica doing nowadays? Ha! Just kidding! Then again ....
  5. Obviously, the Twins need to go out and find the best darn pitch-framer who is available for a reasonable price! Then again, we can suffice with Garver and spare parts (Wilson, etc.) until August rolls around and we're still in this thing or not. If not, no reason to trade good prospects or sign unnecessary scrubs.
  6. A shame about that errant Morrison throw, but at least Odirizzi pitched well and struck out a few batters.
  7. His first two pitches were 100 mph. Wow and whoa!!! I can't remember the last time a Twins pitching prospect was throwing with velocity like that. Exciting stuff! Let's just hope he remembers where the strike zone is located.
  8. Always very sad to hear news like this Sure, I remember the Quilici days, both as player and manager. I recall seeing him in Spring Training when the Twins played games in Orlando back in the early 1970s. One thing that surprised me that Seth wrote: I didn't realize that he was only 33 years old when he became the Twins manager. That's mind boggling!
  9. Good for him. Maybe his relatively "advanced" age has helped, but he doesn't seem intimidated or hesitant in his new role as the main catcher. I don't think many people were happy to see Castro put on the DL, but I think putting Garver behind the plate more has given him the experience and confidence he needs to thrive.
  10. Good reminder. I've forgotten about Pineda's impending return too. And you may be right about Meija too. Barring injuries, too many good arms ahead of him.
  11. And congratulations to Trevor May ("Lurch" ???) on making it back to the mound again, even if it's on a rehab assignment in the minors. He must be pumped big time!
  12. Excellent summary of the past week, NIck! Yeah, what a relief to see the Twins winning again on a consistent basis. Not sure what the magic ingredient was. Fairly good pitching, Morrison picking it up a bit, and the return of Buxton. Sure,he's looked flat at the plate thus far, but just his presence on the field is a psychological boost for the team.
  13. I haven't been following the results of the new Pace of Play rule in the minors thus far, but it strikes me as one of those misguided experiments that will soon be terminated.
  14. I'm also feeling frustrated by Buxton's continuing slow starts and the nagging injuries. I love watching him play center field and run the bases. Not many players can match that excitement. But I'm starting to have my doubts that he'll ever be more than a .250 hitter. Man, I hope I'm wrong about that. But I'm also getting tired of the "he's only 24" excuses for his struggles. It's time for him to make the jump to the next level.
  15. Add me to the list of those who are surprised and disappointed in seeing Melotakis released. What prompted that move? More injury concerns? Or too many better arms ahead of him?
  16. Man, how did I miss that news about Wander Javier?! Asleep at the Wheel again! Very sorry to hear that. But hopefully, like Kirilloff, he can come back in another year and start putting up impressive numbers again.
  17. One quote by Kirilloff gave me pause: :"I’m going to play as hard as I can, whether I’m here or wherever else.” I hope he was referring to Cedar Rapids and perhaps the possibility of moving up the Twins' minor league ladder soon .. and not with another organization!
  18. I concur with everyone else: great summary, Seth. I was surprised a bit by this part you wrote about Rooker: As a 23-year-old, he is one of the youngest players on the Lookouts roster. Is that really so young for a AA player? Seems like most top prospects at that age would already be in AAA. Or am I totally off base? What would you say is the average age on the Lookouts roster this year?
  19. This could be an odd question, so apologies ahead of time. Seeing as how Mitch Garvey has been with the big league club all season, why is he still listed in the "Top Prospect Summary" ?
  20. Another interesting "Get To Know" installment. Thanks, Seth! Seeing as how he was un-drafted, he's not a name I was familiar with at all. And from Madonna University, of all places! But as you noted, he's putting up good numbers so far this year. Looks a player to watch. With a tongue-twister of a last name like Grzelakowski he's bound to have a nickname. Any idea what that is? Or is it up to us to give him one?
  21. Nick Gordon is off to a great start this season. But can he sustain it? If he keeps playing like this for the next month what are the chances that he gets promoted to AAA --- or even to the big league club --- sometime this summer?
  22. Interesting article. Thanks for posting that. But I'm still trying to get my head around "barreling of the ball" and "barrel percentage." For an old school guy like me, all of these newly introduced stats are hard to understand and put in perspective. Not saying it's a bad thing at all, just a whole new concept for me!
  23. I have to agree with most of that. I'm much more worried about the pitching staff at this point. I think the hitting will pick up, maybe not by a significant amount, but it can't stay this bad, can it? And how about some more home runs!
  24. Sad to hear the news today that Ichiro's playing days have come to end. Well ... there is that "maybe" to the whole announcement. But in any case, I'll miss him. A truly great player and he seemed like a classy guy. One that respected the game and did all the little things --- and the big things --- to stay in shape and remain competitive, even in his 40s. And I think it's really cool that he plans to continue taking batting practice with the team this year. A good reason to get to the park early!
  25. Sorry to see more regression for Kohl Stewart. Okay, it's only one game, but what a stinker!
