Article: MIN 5, DET 4: Take a Bow, Joe
Doctor Wu replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The first pinch-hit homer by the Twins all year?! Yikes! Now I'm depressed all over again. -
Article: MIN 5, DET 4: Take a Bow, Joe
Doctor Wu replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In a lost season like this one, these sorts of feel-good moments (Mauer's pinch-hit homer in particular) seem all the more sweeter. A fun game indeed. -
Yes indeed, it certainly makes you wonder. As noted in previous posts, the development of each player is different, but it appears that both Lewis and Kirilloff are special cases and "rushing" them to the majors may not be such a bad idea. I'm all for patience and caution when the situations warrant it, but it would also be refreshing to the Twins promote guys like these two who have shown unusual aptitude.

Article: BREAKING: Twins Trade Rodney To A's
Doctor Wu replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hmm, not a bad idea. Let's emulate Tampa Bay's strategy! -
Like most everyone else on the board I'm very surprised if not shocked by the move. But I also love it. Just the fact that the head office is doing something unexpected and daring gives me hope. Sure, Thorpe and/or Gonsalves probably earned a callup sooner than Stewart, but current circumstances have combined to make this an understandable move. Good luck to him!

Article: Process Set to Yield Results for Kepler
Doctor Wu replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good article, especially noting the "unfairness" of some of the stats and results that Kepler has this season. I'm basing my opinion on only a handful of clips of Kepler I've seen in the past month, but his approach at the plate looks better/smoother (more fluid?), and that all-important self-confidence seems to be kicking in as well. Hope he continues to make progress. We need him in that outfield. -
Article: BREAKING: Twins Trade Rodney To A's
Doctor Wu replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd rather see the team hang on to Odorizzi. I think we'll need another dependable arm in the starting rotation next year, and overall he's been fairly good this year. As far as Rodney, I'm happy to see him go, "veteran presence" or not. Sure, he's a fun player to have around, one of the few that still seems to have a zest for the game, and at his advanced age he's still a relatively effective reliever. But as others have stated, he's not going to be part of the team's future, or even of much need next year, so might as well get something for 7 weeks of his services. Good move. -

Hey, let's make Garver the closer! -
As others have stated, players progress and develop differently. It would be foolish to expect every player to have the same trajectory. And in the case of a special talent like Lewis, it would be counterproductive to hesitate to promote him because of his age or relative lack of inexperience. Some players just have the extra special something. And if that's the case, I hope the Twins are unusually aggressive and promote players like Lewis and Kiriloff faster than usual. No, I don't want them to be taking a lot of unnecessary risks, but I think it's time that they DO take a few chances with this impressive talent we have and see how they perform at higher levels. .

Article: MIN 3, CLE 2: Mitch Garver Makes it Rain
Doctor Wu replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great game by Mejia. He could make a believer out of me yet. And Garver also continues to impress with the bat. As good as he's been lately I find it hard to believe that he only has hit 6 homers all year.- 28 replies

Article: MIN 3, CLE 2: Mitch Garver Makes it Rain
Doctor Wu replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Forsythe is now healthy I'm all for it. Other 2B options for next year (i.e. the struggles of Gordon in AAA) aren't that tempting, so he could be a good, solid place holder for a year at least.- 28 replies

Obviously all three players exceeded expectations and became valuable members of the team. I think one big key was that the team was patient with each of them and gave them enough opportunities to stick on the big league team, without subjecting them to the yo-yo-ing ride to AAA and back again the whole time.

Another great and informative roundup. Many thanks for keeping us in the loop. I have to admit that Williams had not been on my radar at all thus far this season, but you can't ignore the impressive HR numbers. Hope he can keep it up at the next level.

Article: Week in Review: Moving Forward
Doctor Wu replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good article. One paragraph jumped out at me: Another key piece for the future, Adalberto Mejia, asserted that he belongs in the big-league rotation on Wednesday by holding Cleveland scoreless on one hit over five innings. Is Mejia really considered that much of a key piece? He's show flashes of quality the past two years, but I'm still not sold on him being a core piece of the rotation going forward. Maybe a somewhat reliable 4th or 5th starter, but anything more than that ... I dunno What do others think? Could he really be a good foundation piece in the rotation next year?- 45 replies

Article: Departures Don’t Change Twins Future
Doctor Wu replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good article! I'd agree that the foundation of the rebuild, or the young core we have, hasn't changed all that much. But it's been such a frustrating and disappointing season in so many ways. Free agent signings that were a definite mixed bag, and lack of production with some of our "stars. It feels like we've taken a step back when we should have taken a step forwards. The struggles of guys like Kepler and especially Sano and Buxton (yeah, all those nagging injuries, but still), plus the lack of progress with Nick Gordon, have really hurt us. At least we've seen good things from Berrios and Rosario, and even Garver is looking better lately. Of course the real excitement is still down in the lower minor league system (and a few other interesting players in AA and AAA), so I remain optimistic about the team's long-term future. I only wonder if we should just play the kids next year, or try and add a few more "key" free agents?- 42 replies

Article: Dozier’s Days Numbered, Then What?
Doctor Wu replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
From what I read today, that's what the Brewers are planning to do. Too bad. I had thought Milwaukee was the most likely landing place for Dozier. Now, I'm wondering if we'll end up having to unload him on a waiver deal next month, if at all. -
Akil Baddoo led the offense. He went 3-for-3 with two walks and stole his 20th base. Stolen bases! What a wacky concept! Personally, I find it refreshing, not to mention exciting, that minor league players like Baddoo are still allowed to steal bases during these strangely changing baseball times. Good for him.

Article: MIN 2, BOS 1: Gibby the Great
Doctor Wu replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Normally, I don't pay much attention to --- or at least give much importance to it --- a pitcher's won-loss record, but I was shocked to notice that this was only win number 5 for Kyle Gibson this year. As good as he's pitched, that's pretty darn surprising.- 148 replies

I'm having more fun following the Twins' minor league players than the ones on the big league club this summer. It's gonna be sad when their respective seasons end in the coming weeks.

Article: Report: Ryan Pressly Traded To Houston
Doctor Wu replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This one took me by surprise. But from what I've been reading, we got two good prospects in the deal, so I'm content. And as much as I like Esccobar, the fact that we were able to get three prospects for his last two months is beyond acceptable. Still hoping we can unload Dozier and Rodney, with maybe Lynn packing his bags too, but this is a start. That said, Pressly was a player I would have preferred to have kept. And hey, maybe we can still go out and grab Escobar again next year.- 88 replies
