  1. Man, how did I miss that news about Wander Javier?! Asleep at the Wheel again! Very sorry to hear that. But hopefully, like Kirilloff, he can come back in another year and start putting up impressive numbers again.
  2. One quote by Kirilloff gave me pause: :"I’m going to play as hard as I can, whether I’m here or wherever else.” I hope he was referring to Cedar Rapids and perhaps the possibility of moving up the Twins' minor league ladder soon .. and not with another organization!
  3. I concur with everyone else: great summary, Seth. I was surprised a bit by this part you wrote about Rooker: As a 23-year-old, he is one of the youngest players on the Lookouts roster. Is that really so young for a AA player? Seems like most top prospects at that age would already be in AAA. Or am I totally off base? What would you say is the average age on the Lookouts roster this year?
  4. This could be an odd question, so apologies ahead of time. Seeing as how Mitch Garvey has been with the big league club all season, why is he still listed in the "Top Prospect Summary" ?
  5. Another interesting "Get To Know" installment. Thanks, Seth! Seeing as how he was un-drafted, he's not a name I was familiar with at all. And from Madonna University, of all places! But as you noted, he's putting up good numbers so far this year. Looks a player to watch. With a tongue-twister of a last name like Grzelakowski he's bound to have a nickname. Any idea what that is? Or is it up to us to give him one?
  6. Nick Gordon is off to a great start this season. But can he sustain it? If he keeps playing like this for the next month what are the chances that he gets promoted to AAA --- or even to the big league club --- sometime this summer?
  7. Interesting article. Thanks for posting that. But I'm still trying to get my head around "barreling of the ball" and "barrel percentage." For an old school guy like me, all of these newly introduced stats are hard to understand and put in perspective. Not saying it's a bad thing at all, just a whole new concept for me!
  8. I have to agree with most of that. I'm much more worried about the pitching staff at this point. I think the hitting will pick up, maybe not by a significant amount, but it can't stay this bad, can it? And how about some more home runs!
  9. Sad to hear the news today that Ichiro's playing days have come to end. Well ... there is that "maybe" to the whole announcement. But in any case, I'll miss him. A truly great player and he seemed like a classy guy. One that respected the game and did all the little things --- and the big things --- to stay in shape and remain competitive, even in his 40s. And I think it's really cool that he plans to continue taking batting practice with the team this year. A good reason to get to the park early!
  10. Sorry to see more regression for Kohl Stewart. Okay, it's only one game, but what a stinker!
  11. I'm puzzled by that move also. Seems like a big jump in levels for a player who is not a top prospect.
  12. Sounds like he has an impressive set of skills, but his being only 15-years-old I'm not sure how much enthusiasm I can muster at this point.
  13. A walk-off homer to give the Twins a win!? How did I miss this that? Oh ... you were talking about Lewin Diaz and Fort. Myers. Oh well, I'll take any good news from the Twins organization at this dismal early juncture in the season.
  14. The depressing losing streak aside, I'm also concerned about this early season tactic of "dumpster diving" as someone so aptly phrased it; to acquire new players to supplement our fractured roster. It's one thing if we were suffering from a rash of injuries, but the vast majority of these moves, just to replace players who are performing poorly, seems like the head office is already panicking.
  15. The revolving door of player transactions the past two weeks is making my head spin. Where did this new relief pitcher Matt Magill come from and how did the Twins acquire him? Amidst all the other turmoil lately I missed that move. Not it matters much, I suppose. But Is he good enough to stay on the MLB roster and contribute?
  16. Going to see Neil Young and Crazy Horse sounds like the best idea I've heard so far this year!
  17. I didn't realize that Thorpe was still a bit "too young" for the level he's at. Good to factor that into the equation. After missing most of 2 seasons, I just assumed he had regressed as far as age to level was concerned. Thanks for the reminder, Seth.
  18. Good points, What you called "the cute roster manipulation" smacks of things the front office tends to do in July or August .. not in April. Looking scary out there.
  19. I can't recall exactly when he joined the team, but Morrison put up very impressive numbers during the spring training gamed that he played. Of course, none of that matters now that the regular season is here and he's struggling. He's shown a bit more signs of life this past week, but I doubt he'll come remotely close to matching the numbers he put up in Tampa Bay last year.
  20. Very good analysis, Cody. Indeed, longtime fans may be puzzled about --- as you wrote --- "how has a career .252 hitter compiled the best streak of his career?" Sounds like Dozier has made some crucial adjustments. Old dogs learning new tricks?
  21. Gotta be impressed by what Nick Anderson has done on the mound thus far. As Steve wrote, those numbers are hard to ignore. Let's hope he can sustain those impressive strikeout numbers especially.
  22. I'm not in a panic mode yet, but ugghh ... what a discouraging week. Getting swept by Tampa Bay was pathetic. The offense looks impotent and the pitching hasn't been so hot either. Maybe having Buxton healthy and playing well will help things, but that alone won't cure all the various concerns this team has.
  23. You make a good point. On one level, I agree. But I also am an "old school" guy who used to hold season tickets to Orlando Twins games and always was of the mindset that baseball is baseball. Extra innings? No problem. Play 10, play 20. I always liked the drama of extra inning games, even in the minor leagues. It's the way the game has always been played. In any case, I'm still on the fence regarding this new extra innings rule, or whatever they are calling it. Not crazy about it, but not saying I won't change my mind at some point.
  24. i missed this article last week. Too much else occupying my time. But very well written and researched. Plenty of interesting variables and skills touched upon. I love reading articles like this, ones that make you look at a player from a different perspective.
