  1. Sigh, I have no more hopes for this team. Bring on the Timberwolves already.
  2. Noticeably absent are the couple of Japanese and Korean free agent signings in recent years. Yes they were definite busts, but it was always worth a try.
  3. Down the stretch and relying on names like Randy Dobnak and Devin Smeltzer and Cody Stashak to fortify the pitching staff .. how unlikely but totally fun is that?!
  4. Most likely they reached out to Oswaldo Arcia and Darin Mastroianni before calling LaMarre. man, what a bizarre last month this is going to be!
  5. I always feel sad when the minor league season ends. Too soon indeed! But at least this year we have the Twins in the major league playoffs (knock on wood) to either enjoy or suffer through.
  6. But in all seriousness, I'd be shocked if the Twins forked out money for any of the free agent pitchers you listed. I think we absolutely need a top flight arm in the rotation, but I don't see it happening via free agency this coming season.
  7. Yes, they need better pitchers, specifically another VERY GOOD starter or two, but I can't see that happening given the Twins' history of lackluster free agent signings. More than likely we're looking at another winter of "the ones that got away." That said, I'd give Odo the QO, but Pineda would be my priority signing.
  8. Which will come in handy for those 16-inning games this month!
  9. I don't know whether to smile or to groan. Sigh. Please heal quickly Mr. Buxton!
  10. I agree; good list. You could easily point to a dozen or more players on the team who have surpassed expectations this year. One of the most pleasant surprises, one that not many people mention, has been Adrianza. He's currently batting .287 (which is down from a week ago) and his OBP is .371. Who guessed that he was even capable of putting up those kind of numbers. especially considering how cold he was the first month of the season. Sano, Garver, Cruz; Duffy; all these guys have performed much better than i had thought they would.
  11. Brusdar Graterol? Yes, by all means bring him up. But forget September. Either call him up this next week so he's eligible for the post-season or don't even bother. At this point I'd also consider giving him starts too, unless the rest of the starters turn it around and start putting up blanks.
  12. I hope the strong game by Perez is the start of MORE quality starts by the Twins. That starting rotation has been looking ugly lately, so it was refreshing to see a strong start again. And nice games by the forgotten guys, Schoop and Cron too. Now we just have to forget this win came against a weak Tigers team.
  13. You could certainly say that Cave was struggling earlier in the year, but lately he's been hitting very well. In his 19 AB so far in August he is batting .421. Not bad at all!
  14. The newly improved bullpen? Well, at least Romo has looked good so far. Count me as one that's still a bit nervous about the effectiveness and stability of this bullpen.
  15. The Twins are having an historic year offensively. Very, very impressive. They could, and should, win the division. But beyond that? I fear we won't get past the first round of the playoffs once again. I just don't think we have the pitching quality (starters or relievers) to compete with the top shelf teams. Sign. Same old story.
  16. I like the addition of Dyson to the bullpen ... but not convinced that that getting him and Romo was enough to make the pen a top notch one that is going to get us far in the playoffs. But hey, at least it's something and things could have been much worse. A lot of quality bullpen arms and starters out there who weren't moved, so there's that in the equation too. But my first thought when I saw the details of the trade was one of dismay; giving up 3 quality prospects seemed like a lot to pay for a relief pitcher who isn't even considered a closer. Okay, I know they weren't top 10, or even top 20 prospects, but I liked each one of them and I'm sorry they are gone. But ... we got a live arm, and Dyson isn't just a 2 month rental, but a player who'll be with the team next year, so that's a comfort But please please please, ... don't let this turn into the second coming of Matt Capps.
  17. Gyro spin? Man, it seems like I learn something new every time I visit this site! What I like about this signing is the fact that Romo DOES match up well against the Yankees. I think, or I hope, that the front office is targeting pitchers who can specifically match up well against potential playoff opponents such as the Yankees and Astros. I liken it to the strategy that Presidential candidates use in national elections (okay, I realize this is a reach, but bear with me!):It doesn't matter how much of a percentage of the national vote you have, you need to capture the electoral majority of certain states to win, and that's where your focus needs to be. Thus, I think it would be a savvy move by the Twins to target pitchers who are Yankee-killers, or who at least match up well against the other possible playoff teams.
  18. Greinke also likes to bat, and is in fact a good hitter. I would think that his preference would be to stay in the NL where he can pitch and hit. That said, I would love to see him in the Twins' rotation.
  19. Very nice to see Gilberto Celestino having a very productive week with Cedar Rapids. It will be comforting, after trading away Pressly last year, if he turns into a keeper.
  20. Very good article. In an ideal world, we wouldn't have to give up any of the top prospects we have. ones that we have been following and reading about and rooting for. But hey, that's the reality of the game, as we all know. You always hear people saying that "You have to give up something to get something" and of course that's true, but darn it, it's going to hurt when we lose some of those kids.
  21. Another player catching my eye in the recaps lately is Prelander Berroa. Not sure what his overall outlook will be, but I love that name!
  22. Fun to see Jaylin Davis continuing his recent hot streak. Has he turned into a real prospect at this point?
  23. My thoughts exactly. I can't see a Buxton trade at all. And any value that Romero had has plummeted this season.
  24. My first thought was: why trade for Romo when Belisle was available. Okay, that's a stretch, and a poor comparison, but like many others I'm hoping that this is not the only bullpen addition that the Twins make this month. I didn't view Romo as the playoff-type stopper that we need in the pen, but on further reflection I like the idea of getting a veteran with playoff experience, and his track record in that respect is good, Plus, he certainly HAS been pitching very well in the past month or so. If he's riding a hot streak, let's make sure his seat is a comfortable one.
