Yeah, not impressed with Tinney's initial games. He's been very passive at the plate and he was missing on in zone pitches too much. He's also been hosed on some calls, but still, have to swing more. Glad to see him actually swing the bat (and make contact) when he did. He's going to need to adjust that approach quite a bit unless it was part of his strategy to get a feel for the level or something unusual.

The results are too long to ignore. Matthews doesn't have the stuff or command for the rotation. He added a sinker and it wiped his K rate, and he doesn't have any out pitches. The sinker and slider are average and his other 4 options are below average in terms of stuff. Opposing hitters don't chase his offerings outside the zone much, but if they do, they make contact, and Matthews gets barreled like crazy. He just doesn't fool anybody. Almost the exact same M.O. as Varland as a starter.

If Greene didn't have risks associated with him, you'd have to look at Chris Sale trade. #1 overall MLB prospect. #30 overall MLB prospect. #8 org in probably the best farm system in baseball. fast rising swing start/reliever Equivalent for Twins Vahn Lackey Walker Jenkins Dasan Hill Adrian Bohorquez

What a take... Ever think about why doctors have internships or why when you get a new job you need experience to be good at it? Why do MLB teams or NFL teams have preseasons? Knowing the plays is different than running them.

Matthews is a bullpen arm. I was a big proponent of his, but he doesn't have the stuff.

Can't expect the guys you don't care about losing are going to be more coveted by other teams. Throwing a bunch of trash at the Reds for an ace caliber pitcher will get you nowhere, even if you throw in a guy who has fallen off top 100 lists recently in (Emma)

If people want guys like Greene, you have to give where it hurts in prospects. Ace caliber pitchers with multiple years of team control are a rarity and they're extremely valuable.

I didn't watch the game personally so it's tough to say if Lackey had any chance. Depending on how the pitcher holds the runner or the skills of the pitcher on their set and delivery, the catcher may have zero shot at catching a base runner.

Luckily, the fans here aren't the GM so Clemens didn't get released on like April 15th... but also, not really. At least not since Lewis' recall on June 6th. Excluding today... .240/.278/.509 OPS .787 wRC+ 111, 4.8% BB, 21.4% K - Clemens vs. .249/.321/.462 OPS .783 wRC+ 115, 10.0% BB, 21.6% K - Lewis

Bummer the Twins weren't able to get the win. They need a Red Sox-like surge to allow them some roster decision stress relief. I like Prielipp's stuff, and I think he'll be a really nice arm in the rotation next year as he gains command and experience. It's different than Matthews' struggles where it seemed like he should be better, but just wasn't. Prielipp seems like a young pitcher learning how to be good.

Maybe, but he's just as likely to throw to the wrong base in a rush to not have the exact same mistake again.

EXACTLY. The automatic muscle memory for these situations isn't there for a guy who'd played about 20 games at first base in his life. Same with 2B. Lewis is not going to be good at either position until he has a lot more experience at them. It took Joe Mauer like 2 years to truly get great at first base, and Mauer was as gifted as they come and he had the offseason to learn the position.

Bullpen May No Longer Be The Twins Number One Need
bean5302 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is how I'd grade Zebby's appearances. ERA/xERA/FIP/xFIP average 0.00-2.99 = blue, elite 3.00-3.99 = green, good 4.00-4.99 = yellow, okay 5.00-5.99 = orange, passable 6.00-9.9+ = red, unplayable There's not a lot of green and blue on this.- 24 replies

Houston is absolutely crushing it in AA. It's truly awesome to see, and he should be in AAA in September if this keeps up and he gets 200 PA in. Seems like the Twins feel the same way about him as the rate of Culpepper's 3B playing time has been increasing lately. Those injuries really derailed Culpepper this year and he's been ice cold since returning. He's got another month to figure it out at this rate.

Joe Pohlad was the spokesperson or representative more than a decision "maker." He relayed decisions and positions from ownership. Controlling owners make decisions, though the actual ownership would be involved in major financial decisions. Financial Owners - The Pohlad Family (Jim, Bill and Bob) Controlling Owners - Historically, this was Jim. Joe never had this role. Jim was always chairman and controller. Tom now has this role, and this had to be approved by other MLB owners. https://www.mlb.com/news/jim-pohlad-steps-down-joe-pohlad-new-executive-chairman Joe spoke for the ownership, and while Joe may have made some decisions, he did not have the authority to make major decisions without Jim signing off. Joe was not an actual owner in any capacity. Tom actually MAKES the decisions.

Twins (Prielipp) Vs Mariners (Gilbert) 8/1/26 3:10 CDT
bean5302 replied to Mortimerkenny21's topic in Archived Game Threads
Important game for these teams, and Prielipp has a tough assignment going up against Gilbert, but conversely, he has the boost of pitching to Mariners hitters.
