    Fun fact…Klein was the bat boy for my youngest kid’s travel youth team. Don’t know what the future hold for him in the majors…he’s battled the odds just getting there, obviously. Just as obviously, we’re pulling for him.

    Remember 3 years ago when “good” Jeffers was going to have a low OBP, strike out a bunch, but hit 30+ HRs. He’s completely transformed himself as a hitter. Tip of the cap to him.

    Been absolutely abysmal in the field, as well. Agbayani’s floor looks infinitely higher than Young’s, in the field and the batter’s box…a mile ahead of Young right now. But yeah, Young’s power looks undeniable already.

    Well, at least through July anyway. Probably. Hopefully.

    But how many RBI would he have if he was batting behind Martin (484 OBP) and Larnach (424) instead in front of them? The bottom of the order has been a complete black hole, except for the recent surge/improvement from Lee. I’m not one to gripe about a lack of RBI, unless the guy is passive with RiSP. That’s not Buxton.

    Prielipp encouraging again. You can see how he could be much better even…especially learning how to command his changeup. Still really hasn’t pitched much as a pro.

    2 out and Wallner on deck. The smart play there was for Keaschall to just keep running until someone tags him.

    Jenkins more aggressive lately…hitting the ball harder and turning on pitches. To the point he was over-aggressive in his last two at-bats, chasing and striking out, which is rare for him…and will probably continue to be relatively rare. But you love to see him attacking, two of those doubles were rockets.

    Nice. We have his struggles narrowed down to…pitchers who throw with one of their hands. Seems like they should be able to work around that. No?

    Gotta hand it to Ober. He’s the big engine that can’t…do anything we think he should be able to do…except get people out. Desire and competitiveness is so much easier to relate to than absurd talent.

    In 2000 the Twins lost 93 games. They had 24-year olds Eric Milton, Torii Hunter, and David Ortiz (oops)…23 yo AJ Pierzynski and 21 year old Johan Santana (86 ip; 6.49 ERA). They had Cuddyer, Morneau, Neshak, Kubel in the minors and were about to draft Mauer with the number 1 overall pick.

    It’s not just the rubes…the fascination with mediocrity is alive and well here on TD. Who cares if turning the page on Wallner…or, literally ANY of the veterans who’ve had time to prove who they are…makes the team marginally worse in the short term??? This goes for the “good” veterans who could return value, as well. Why does winning 75-80 games instead of 60-70 mean anything to anyone? And how can you think (it’s not thinking, it’s hoping) that excellence can ever even possibly occur when mediocrity is the GOAL…Every. Single. Year. Any honest effort to build a team with a high ceiling (mid-market, primarily from prospects and prospect capital) means accepting the risk of a low floor at some point.

    You forgot the .292 OBP and 1 stolen base through 28 games played. He’s a real headache for the opposition at the top of the order right now.
